Harbor steak and seafood in mamaroneck

Maybe it's Hooters.

Jakes Wayback Burger

Kudos to Piper's Kilt. I also like the tuna burger at the Legal Seafood bar before a movie.

Jakes Wayback Burger

I suggest the Candlelight.

Chinese food in lower Westchester?

Aberdeen, Hartsdale Sea Food, China White ($$$$).

Shoprite in Scarsdale

The Scarsdale layout is a function of fitting into an existing building.
The store is very good and busy.
If you want a bigger store then go to White Plains. They credit your 1 hour parking.
If they dropped an item perhaps it was not selling. Ask customer service.

Shoprite in Scarsdale

Seems Portier Smokehouse is out of business.

china white noodle bar? where the creek used to be in purchase, ny

Thanks for the recommendation.

china white noodle bar? where the creek used to be in purchase, ny

You make some good points but we also had the shrimp with veg and it was very good. Parking on Anderson Hill Rd.at night too scary for me. Cold noodles were great. The waitresses seemed terrified of the management and kept nudging us. Relax girls, do your job and leave us alone or we will be scared off. If I want another drink I will ask for it. (I don't need 2 drinks and a scary ride on a dangerous road). Wife sent her Mojito back due to lack of alcohol in it. I told her I always order beer so I know what I get. If I want a drink I go to my liquor cabinet or Candlelight.
Expensive but kind of worth it.

Best Salad Pizza in lower Westchester?

4 stars for a slice of salad and an eggplant parm dish. Or a slice of Sicilian. Forget Saturday nights. 20 minute line.

Westchester - Exceptional Restaurants That Have Barely Made it Through A Year

I have been to China White twice. Once for lunch and dinner. The place seems always busy and the food delicious. Service is stiff and annoying. Prices are high but the hedge fund crowd doesn't mind. I would prefer a less pretentious place with safer parking and 20% lower prices. Most Chinese places near White Plains are disgusting. Any suggestions?

Aberdeen is good but too much a real mainland China experience. If you want chicken feet and scary sea creatures.

Westchester - Exceptional Restaurants That Have Barely Made it Through A Year

Sunset Grill opened with a bang with great food and then reduced prices and quality. IMHO only weekend business and dead all week. High end Mexican not for Gedney Way. Don Emilio came and went for the 6th time.

Emma's Ale House found the right formula. HIgh end Irish bar comfort food and drinks.

Puerto Vallarta restaurant report

I had one good meal there three years ago followed by a New Years Eve dinner from Hell. Try No Way Jose' for New Years. Good food and great personality.

unpasteurized apple cider

Secor Farm on W. Hartsdale Ave. has a bakery with amazing donuts. Great apples right now. I bought Macoun and Honey Crisps.

I also miss the unpasteurized cider. Safety first though. There are nasty germs these days. In the 1950s I ate plenty of raw hamburger. Home made steak tatare. Perhaps it built up my immunity.

Best Sushi in Lower Westchester

Fujinoya is very authentic. Very good with a large menu.

Sakanya Sushi in Central Ave. next to the Japanese Grocer is very good for takeout.

Nijia Market on Central Ave & Hartsdale Ave. has top sushi grade fish to make your own. Fresh not frozen tuna even toro, hamachi (yellowtail), Uni (sea urchin), Ikura (salmon caviar). Buy some fish and make sashimi.

Best Sushi in Lower Westchester

I have been fond of sushi since the early 1980s . There was one sushi restaurant on E. Hartsdale Ave. at the 4 corners.

Your question is difficult to answer because sushi has become so different from it's traditional roots. For a traditional Tokyo experience try Azuma near the Hartsdale train station. Maybe start with a lunch. Leave the kids at home. Turn off your phone. No crazy rolls and house music. It is about the quality of the fish. Don't go when starving. The portions are small. No gobs of rice and previously frozen supermarket sushi kiosk fish.

A rule of thumb is to look for Japanese people eating there. Especially businessmen.

By the way I like Sushi Mike's but it is not convenient for me. It is better than most Crazy Roll places.

Shoprite in Scarsdale

The Nova i Fairway is very good and reasonable. The packaged stuff is cheaper than the hand sliced. The best Westchester Nova is from LaMare - Portier smokehouse in Mamaroneck.

Costco Nova is loaded with salt for long shelf life.

Most supermarkets and delis buy smoked salmon from Acme which is not great. The independent smokehouses buy fresher fish for starters. Try Zabar's or Russ & Daughters in NY and go down from there.

OMG!!! H Mart is opening in Hartsdale, NY!

3 - 4 months.

Westchester Burger coming to Rye Brook

We were there and WB was good but not cheap. $18.00 for a Kobe Burger. My own barbeque makes more sense.

The Burger Joint - Coming to Mt. Kisco?

Years back Fat Burger was looking around. In some bankruptcy problem now. Should rename to Phat Burger.

Serafina coming to White Plains

We went there last night. Manhattan type scene. Good energy even some eye candy but not NY level. Ragged service, nice menu, great Prosciutto d Parma, appetizer, salty Ravioli entre, nice wine selection.

Waiter was an amateur giving us hurried service and the check with the coffee. Usual White Plains busboys taking your plate away while you have food in your mouth. Like they couldn't wait to get us out and I was glad to leave.

The owner, Vittorio, was super nice and quite distressed when we expressed our dismay to him. Worth another try if only for his sincerity.

For the moment stick with Sal's, California Pizza, Frank Pepe's and Mulino's. Za Za also for high end Pizza Trattoria food.

Puerto Vallarta restaurant report

February 2011. We just arrived in PV. In December we had a terrific New Year 2011 at No Way Jose and we will go back. That was a pleasant contrast to the rude service and bad food we had at El Arrayan New Years 2010. Don't miss Archie's Wok the terrific standby for Asian (no sushi) Thai or Phillipino food.

Has anyone tried Blanca Blue?

Scarsdale - New Places Coming On Line Soon

Good question. My coupon says good on your next purchase. No mention of store location limitation. It took $2.00 of my time to type this response:-).

If there is a zip lock bag the chances are the cold cuts will stay fresh. Some people like teens put cold cuts in the fridge in open or no bags.

Scarsdale - New Places Coming On Line Soon

Scarsdale: I suggest parking on the roof if it's jammed. The elevator on the tower goes down.

White Plains gave me a $.75 off coupon good for my next visit when I presented my parking receipt.

It's easy to get there, I suggest entering the garage on Martine Ave. just above North Broadway. Then drive up to floor Level 3. If you park on Levels 2 or 4 take the huge elevators or escalator.

The passanger elevator in Target and the Cinema is in Shoprite also. The White Plains store is much bigger than Scarsdale and could be a better choice during peak times. (like the day before today's 12" snow storm)

I love that the deli gave me cold cuts in Zip Lock bags.

Lots of seating to eat in the store before the movies. (Sorry restaurants)

New Mexican Restaurant in Hartsdale

Went there for the second time Saturday 11/27. Good crowd. My wife loves the chicken in Mole' sauce. She has been to Puebla and Oaxaca where it is a local recipe and swears it's 100% authentic. The guacamole is huge and delicious. House Margarita is good. Next time I will try a premium Tequila in one. Ladies liked their Mojitos.

Fairway in Pelham is Open!

I agree Fairway's prices have gone up. I surmise they built volume this summer with low prices that we unsustainable. Love the store but hate the trip. The Cross County ramp to the Hutch south is a mess.

I notice the Shoprite in New Rochelle looks much busier than it did after the Fairway opening. Their prices are terrific. I had a nice lunch at the sushi area in Shoprite.

Can't wait for Shoprite to open in Scarsdale and White Plains. Then I can do some quality shopping on the way home from work at convenient locations.

A&P stores closing; apparently one in Yorktown Heights

I hear an Ocean State Job Lot schlock store. A&P will never let in a competitor. They have a long term lease. If that does not work out they will put in a furniture store or gym to kill the location and protect their store at Triangle center.

waldbaums supermarkets on Long Island

A&P has suffered horrible financial losses and is choking on the decrepit Pathmark stores they acquired.

Fairway is a high end destination category killer.

On the popular priced front Shoprite is rolling out new super stores as soon as they can.

Tough times for A&P.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is coming to Pelham Manor

Yeah. They are building Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. A great sports bar concept from Ft. Lauderdale.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is coming to Pelham Manor

I wish Jackson Hole would come to White Plains. They do rare. BTW Legal Seafood has a phenomenal Tuna Burger. Not cheap but your cardiologist will approve.

Restaurants in Westchester, NY

I agree. Azuma is authentic Tokyo sushi. The best and freshest fish. Serious, costly, quiet and leave the kids home. No crazy rolls.

Season's is beneath consideration. I suspect their favorable reviews are self generated.
