Puerto Nuevo Style Lobster - North of the border

Looking for authentic Puerto Nuevo Style Lobster, as close to the real thing without the trip across the border. I'm looking for the flash-fried lobster, melted butter, homemade chewy tortillas. Please... where can I find this?

New restaurant on Wilshire in Brentwood?

the permit sign made it sound like it used to be a store, and is now going to be a cafe.

New restaurant on Wilshire in Brentwood?

"Nerses" or "Verses"? I looked inside and it's still under construction. Anybody know anything?

Good Open-Air Bar on/near the Beach?

The food is not great, but The Whaler at the end of Washington Blvd. is great open air bar (more bar than restaurant). Across the street from that is the Terrace. Better food, nicer atmosphere, but still not stuffy.

New restaurant on Wilshire in Brentwood?

Anybody seen this place? I've driven by a few times and still can't make out the name. It doesn't appear to be open yet, but the sign is up.

It is a wood store front, near the KFC on Wilshire, south side of the street. Does anyone know anything about this place? Of course googling "new restaurant wilshire" doesn't get me anywhere.

I'll drive by again today to see if I can read the name. Excited to have something new to try in that neighborhood!

Artichoke Fritters?

I'm remembering some delicious artichoke fritters, but I can't remember where I had them. Can anyone help me?

They came as an appetizer, little golden balls of fried goodness and along with a delicious lemony aioli. Restaurant was mostly likely on the westside/BH/Culver City area, although I really can't remember. And my friends think i'm crazy.... please help me remember where I had these delicious fritters!

Long Beach recs

thanks for the suggestions! Of course, they just changed the meeting place to Newport Beach, so back to the drawing board. I'm a little more familiar with that area though.

Still dying to try Trachts... i love Jar!

Long Beach recs

I need recommendations for dinner in Long Beach Saturday night. My parents are meeting my bf's parents for the first time! Probabaly steak/seafood , or Italian is the safest bet. Something upscale but not too stuffy? Nothing too loud and bar-ish. Preferably by the water. Any ideas?

Best Entree Salads in L.A.?

I have cravings for the Crispy Chicken Vegetable Salad at Gulfstream. It's probably not the healthiest of salads, but it's delicious!

All you can eat Crab

Sunday brunch at The Warehouse in MDR has a good buffett with crab legs and peel-n-eat shrimp. About $30, but a pretty big spread and all you can drink champagne. Worth the $$ right there!

curry in a bottle

Does anyone have recommendations for a thai-style curry (sauce preferebly, not paste) that you can buy at the grocery store? I've tried the trader joes versions and haven't been satisfied. Any other suggestions?

Good Restraunts in South Bay LA

Try Coyote Cantina for good and unique Mexican food

Drinking and eating, before 11am on the weekend

Overland Cafe has a champagne breakfast on the weekends (open early). They also serve beer & wine, but no hard alcohol.

Best NON-seedy-looking THAI restaurant in LA??

Natalee Thai (either Culver City or BH location). I know some ppl on the board don't find their food authentic enough, but I have enjoyed every dish I've ever tried there (almost everything!). And the atmosphere is modern and hip (but still reasonably priced).

best bread for sandwiches

Milton's bread (avail in grocery stores) is great. It was originally only sold at Milton's bakery in San Diego, then they got distribution at Costco, and now it's mainstream. But the quality is still great. Any of the varieties, but I like the original wheat.

Cheese!

Nicole's in South Pasadena has a pretty decent selection if you are looking for something on that side of town.

Craft menu- what's a 'can't miss'?

I'm going to Craft tomorrow night and after seeing the menu online, I'm already overwhelmed. Any suggestions on things we must try? FYI - not much of a beef eater (my bf is), i'm going mostly for the starters and seafood.

thanks for any tips!

Ideas for celebratory lunch with booze?

Bandera on Wilshire is also good. Similar to Wilshire (expensive menu and bar) but I think their food is superior.

Restaurant near Sports Arena/USC

Try the 29th Street Cafe... or Margarita Jones.

Food at J Restaurant downtown?

I agree about food at J. The ambience was cool, but poor food and service. although they had only been open a month or so when I went. So it might have gotten better.

Need Help for Rock Star Party

My friend had a bday with the same theme. We got 2 tables at Rokbar. It was a great venue... good food... you can (or used to be able to) rent tables upstairs, so you can look down on the dance floor. Great service, reasonably priced drinks & food, good music.

Sushi Recs for a Boozy, Boisterous 30th B-Day?

Check out Sushi on Sunset.

Late night delivery

Is there anything open past 1 am that delivers on the westside? pizza? thai? anything other than Jerry's Deli?

Best Upscale Thai Food in L.A.?

Natalee Thai is excellent, and pretty upscale as far as Thai restaurants go. The food is slightly Americanized, but is consistent and fresh. I've never had a bad meal there (or to go) and been going there for 5+ years.

Top French Restaurants please

There is a place in Culver City called L'Hermitage. Great ambience (patio), big menu, reasonably priced and the food is excellent. Not sure how authentic it is b/c I'm not a French food expert. But I've always had a wonderful experience there (and the house white wine is good too!) And most of the waitstaff is french, so that tells you something...

Brunch on Monday?

Does anyone know of a brunch (preferably "champagne") on Monday, Sept 3rd? I was thinking some places might extend their Sunday brunch being as it is a 3 day weekend....
