Vegetarian in Burgundy

Hi all,
My wife is a vegetarian and we both love to eat, but based on the menus I see online, I fear it may be difficult to find good vegetarian options in Burgundy. I'm hoping, given the excellent produce in Burgundy, the chefs will accomodate vegetarians. We will be staying near Beaune, but will have a car and are more than willing to drive. So far, I have located a couple of places that look good to me, such as La Cuverie L'Ptit Paradis, and Aupres de Clocher in Pommard, but vegetarian options are non-existent on the menu (at least the one's I can read).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, any advice on reservations (i.e. phone vs email)? I arrive next Thursday and will be in the states until then.

Vegetarian Indian - High end and low end [London]

I think we will probably try Quilon and also see if we can make it out to Saravanaa Bhavan as paprikaboy recommended. zuriga, that's a good recomendation on Korean - we have a lot of Korean in the Washington DC area, but, with the exception of a couple tofu places, they are pretty meat-centric. We'll give it a look.

Lacemaker, Georgian sounds pretty interesting. My wife spent some time in Armenia and had issues finding anything she could eat. I'm sure she would welcome a chance to actually try some good Eastern European vegetarian food.

Thanks Zuriga. It seems that Cafe Spice Namaste gets pretty good reviews all around. And you're right, all Indian does pretty good vegetarian, I'm just trying to figure out who does it best.

Vegetarian Indian - High end and low end [London]

Thanks for the reply paprikaboy. Unfortunately I'm not sure where we are staying since my wife will be there for work and she hasn't been informed of the hotel yet. I'm perfectly willing to travel a bit, as long as its tube-accessible. Wembley and East Ham are not too far.

Vegetarian Indian - High end and low end [London]

Hi all,
My wife and I will be in London at the end of October and would like to hit a couple of Indian restaurants. My wife is vegetarian and I often lean vegetarian when eating Indian. I'd like to try one higher end, and one more traditional and less expensive place. There don't seem to be any recent threads on the best vegetarian Indian, although there are some recommendations sprinkled throughout other Indian threads (Quilon seems to be recommended for vegetarian). Any recommendations ranging from hole-in-the-wall to fine dining would be appreciated.

Looking for winemakers dinner in Sonoma County

Thank you all for the information. I should have realized that October would be a difficult time to do this. But I will check out the Quivira dinner and the food/wine pairings that Carrie suggested

Looking for winemakers dinner in Sonoma County

Hi all,

While looking for good places to eat in the area, I have come across several "wine dinners" located at wineries. We will be in Sonoma in October and would like to participate in one of these. Does anyone know the best way to identify when these events occur. Is the best way to simply visit a bunch of winery websites and look at their events page? Or should I try to look through blogs related to Sonoma?

Thanks for your help!

Sonoma county fine dining for vegetarians

Thanks for all the suggestions. The vineyard inn looks quite vegetarian-friendly. And Campo Fina looks like a good pizza/small plates place. I guess I should say we are in it for the food, so places with a casual atmosphere and high quality food are perfect.

Sonoma county fine dining for vegetarians

Hi all,

I am hoping to find a nice restaurant with a substantial number of vegetarian options on the menu or a good vegetarian tasting menu. I've looked around and most have the standard one vegetarian option. Cost is not really an issue, although I'm not looking for French Laundry prices. Anyone have any experience with an excellent vegetarian dining experience in Sonoma county.

Thanks for your help!

Best home made Pasta in North End?

Thank you both for the recommendations. Unfortunately no availability at either of those locations (they may be closed for the 4th). We made a reservation at Al Dente. I'll report back on how that is.

Best home made Pasta in North End?

HI all,

I'm looking for the best home made pasta in the North End. We are a party of four and would like to avoid the high end places like Prezza, and are specifically looking for great pasta. Oh, and we would also like to avoid Giacamos due to long lines. We have to stick to North End due to previous plans in that area. I know there are lot of Italian threads on here, but I still can't tell where to find the best pasta. Thanks a lot for you help.

Vegetarian fine dining recommendataions

Thanks for all of the advice. We ended up going to Equinox. I think it was good, but not great. We were told that they could expand anything on their vegetarian tasting menu into a main course. However, the tasting menu didn't really have anything that you would want to turn into a main course. So, my gf ended up getting the veggie tasting menu ( I had the regular tasting menu which was also good but not great).
So far, Rasika has been our favorite among nicer veggie-friendly restaurants. We're still in search of another "fine-dining" type restaurant that does vegetarian well. Next time we will try some others that were mentioned in this thread.

where are the good indian and thai places near old town, alexandria?!

For Thai I would second Thai Square on Columbia Pike (Arlington) and Duangrats or Rabieng on Rt 7 (King St). Also may I suggest Duangrats Oriental Market which is next door to Rabieng. Better than any Thai in Virginia, but it is all takeout. I know these are not Alexandria, but these are the best in my opinion.
For Indian, Alexandria has some pretty pitiful selections. I still like mediocre Indian though, so that being said: Aroma in Shirlington, Bombay Curry company, and Ragga are decent. If you want good and more authentic indian go to Fairfax.

food that's better in in dc than other places?

I would second Ethiopian and Vietnamese. If you want Ethiopian that's a little off the beaten path (or nice mix of Middle Eastern Food in general), try the Build America strip mall in Northern VA. The address of one place in here is 813D S George Mason Dr Falls Church, VA 22216. There are tons of interesting restaurants here. If you're not feeling adventurous or want something a little classier go with U st.
I would also add Korean to the list. All of the good ones are in Annandale, Va.

Vegetarian fine dining recommendataions

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll call both Equinox and Bibiana and see what they can do. I did check out Restaurant Eve, but they generally only have one option for a la carte which is not on the menu. I'm sure it's good, but a little too risky when spending all that money. FYI, my girlfriend and I have been to Komi, and I didn't think the vegetarian offerings were worth it (The regular menu was awesome). Also Rasika is my favorite restaurant but we have been there alot.

Thanks Kate, that is excellent advise; however, I should have mentioned that we go to Rasika for every special occasion, and we are now trying to change it up a bit. This is our favorite restaurant b/c of their vegetarian options (and for me, their meat options also). Their dal is the best thing ever. But at this point, even if wanted to go back to Rasika, the day of our anniversary is already booked up (It's a Saturday).

Vegetarian fine dining recommendataions

Hi all,

I'm Looking to celebrate an anniversary and need a place that best caters to vegetarians. We would probably do a la carte rather than tasting menu. That would exclude the super fancy, such as Komi and CityZen. Generally all fine dining restaurants have one vegetarian option, which I find a little un-interesting. I have been looking at some of the nicer places around town (i.e. Source, Proof, Equinox) and all generally fall into the category of "not too vegetarian friendly". Has anyone had a good vegetarian experience at a nicer restaurant in/around DC? Has anyone been to the restaurants mentioned only to find they have a more extensive "un-listed" vegetarian menu?

Thanks for the help!

Alinea and licorice

Hi,
I have a reservation at Alinea in a couple of weeks. I have read that there are a number of licorice flavors used in the dishes there, and I don't like licorice. I am debating whether to ask them to omit any licorice or licorice flavors (annise or fennel) from my dishes. I am curious if there is anyone who does not like licorice and has eaten at Alinea. Is the flavor overwhelming, and did it make you dislike any dish with that flavor. I don't want to take away from the experience of the meal. I also don't want to dislike something when I could have asked to omit it.
Thanks for your help!
