Le Bifteque on Cote De Liesse

haha, this is funny because I went twice since they reopened and the sesame tuna was by far the best thing ive had there. Not to say it was great, but it was way better than the steaks. My first trip I order a rare filet mignon and it came medium. For a self described steak house thats bad. Also the meat was full of tendons which is unacceptable for a filet. The second time when I got the tuna my girlfriend got the sirloin and it was pretty fatty and full of tendons as well. Pretty disappointed, I get better cuts of meat at home.

Taste MTL, suggestions?

went to Decca77 last night, wasnt impressed. Food was decent but for some reason service was terrible. Waiter was nice but took 1 hr from the time we sat until we got our soups. Wouldnt recommend for taste montreal, thought its normally better.

Going to carte blanche tomorrow, la chronique on tuesday and laloux on thursday. Can report back after.

Montreal A Table - Where to try

Theres a food festival being organised by the SAQ. Participating restos are putting out set menus for either $19, $29 or $39.

Im already book at La Chronique, Laloux and Decca77 but which other restaurants on the list are worth trying?

Gibby's or Moishes for Steak in Montreal

I go to both a couple times a year and in terms of pure good steak would go with moishes.

best lunches in montreal

id agree if it was a nice slow 2 hour dinner but this is a 1 hr lunch and with dessert it pushes $40 pre tax/tip/wine. Still if you are fine with that price then the food was excellent and well worth it.

best lunches in montreal

I ended up going to Maison Boulud, Toque and Kazu. I lost credit card roulette at all 3 so maybe I should have just gone for dinner!

ANyways, boulud was quite good. I liked the decor and the warm of the place, good service, food was excellent. Only problem was after 2 courses for $32 we were all still hungry so we opted for dessert as well which was delicious. The halibut as the main was great with crispy skin and really buttery fish. Only complaint was the portion size but other than that very happy.

Toque was great and a bit more generous on the portionsso after a torchon foie gras app and sweetbread main I had no room for desert. Foie gras dish was great, sweetbreads decent.

Kazu was kazu, no need to go over that one.

Overall would go back to all of the, but maybe ill go to boulud for dinner next time or pre eat a power bar or something. still want to try milos lunch and chasse et peche

Vacation to Mont Tremblant

been to SeB twice, was great both times. The second time they felt that they were too slow between appetizers and mains (30 mins maybe) even though we didnt notice, so they gave us dessert for free

Best Dinner/Restaurant in Montreal?

ptit plateau is great, pintxo is pretty good as is lemeac but ptit plateau is tops on that list.

city isnt that busy for jazz fest. Reserve just to be safe but a week in advance should be fine.

best lunches in montreal

Im taking a week off work in June but am just staying in the city. This gives me a wonderful opportunity to try some of the lunch specials the top restaurants in the city offer. I was looking online and Toque, La Chronique and the new Maison Boulud all seem to offer weekday lunches in the $30 range.

Those prices are fine but if there's something else thats great and less (or a bit more) thats fine too. SO what are the other great lunch deals out there?

Foodie Family & Fine Fare: Where to in Montreal?

yeah, dont go to 40 west unless you want a traditional steakhouse experience which by the info provided in your original post isnt what you want. if you have a healthy budget la porte could be worth a look

Toque' or Better

hey,

ive dined at some of the world class places you mentioned and agree with the others that you just arent going to find a place like that in montreal. But toque was pretty great last time I was there (1 year ago) and one of the only places like that in montreal. Another option could be XO, which also offers long tasting menus with wine pairings.

400 coups was really good and definitely worth the money, but its not the same caliber as toque. and the other quebecois suggestions are on the money but it depends if you want a local montreal experience or the best world class style restaurant we have to offer.

Restos for solo weekend dinner: near downtown MTL

yeah also would avoid holder.

There are some decent byob rewstaurants nearby you. Most of the endtrees are in the mid 20 range but you could bring your own wine so what you save on that makes up for it.

Id search the threads here for good byobs but can also recommend o'thyme which isnt that far, and has a bar id believe. Some of the other good ones like bleu raising and ptit plateau dont so maybe call ahead. (These are all french btw)

Kazu (Japanese) is awesome for a montreal place in that price range. Just be prepared to wait in line for about 20-30 minutes cause the place is small and is quite popular now. Still, its about as un touristy as you can get

And id hit up icehouse for some good bbq style food, although you guys do it so much better in the states it might not be worth it. still, its a good scene and conducive to sitting and eating at the bar and talking to some people.

Where to go with picky eaters who don't know that they are - Montreal

wow, I can commiserate with you a lot. Im jewish but would rather eat scallops wrapped in bacon than anything, yet often have to deal with these types of restrictions as well.

I think you guys are stuck going to a steakhouse or a fish place, since the insane restrictions put on you guys. La sirene was a good recommendation, and I would also offer molivos on guy for a place thats nice but not too nice and offers decent food that fits most of those requests. Also grandma might be ok with it.

Gibbies is good, but not the best steaks for the price. Its in the old port and caters to tourists so that's no surprise, but you could certainly do worse. Personally id rather do moishes for basically the same cost though.

When you end up picking a place, id call the sister in law and tell her the choice is between your selection and pied du chochon, ask her to check out the menus and pick which one she likes best. May as well have some fun with it.

Garde Manger, Au Cinquieme Peche, Le Bleu Raisin, or DNA?

I went to La Porte for my bday dinner as well. I found it was a great spot. Nice classy atmosphere, attentive staff and pretty solid food. just upset that I ordered the cerf for the main instead of the piglet. Cerf was good but that pig was awesome. Def. getting that when I go back.

Also plan for a longish dinner. we had the menu plaisir and it took about 3 - 3.5 hours for everything.

theres better byob sushi than 5 saisons for the same price. As someone who loves sake, I go to yuukai on Parc and Coba sushi on Laurier all the time.
