Healthy High-Heat Cooking Oils? Oxymoron?

I don't know about pecan oil, but if it's like other nut oils is better for medium heat. Peanut oil is a different case because peanuts are actually not technically nuts and the the oil from peanuts is better for high heat. I am pretty sure in nourishing traditions they describe it as a so-so fat that you want to use in moderation. Grapeseed oil is the same as canola oil so it's generally very refined and damaged. You are better off with butter or coconut oil for high heat. Lemurleap is right, it's sugar and damaged refined fats that you have to watch for.

What's your favorite snowed-in comfort food?

Great list! Would you happen to have a good cassoulet recipe? I had it in a restaurant and it was amazing! Then I tried to recreate it, not amazing at all. There are SO many recipes online and they are all totally different.

First Date, East Village, Degustation?

http://www.anchoinyc.com/

I went here on a date and it was casual but really cool with a few nice drinks. Then you are in a great area to get drinks at other places after! If you are trying to impress by spending a lot of money it's not a good place but I really liked it here and it's very nice for a date.

Baffling Food Trends

As far as Guy Fieri, I agree that he is very annoying, HOWEVER I find Rachel Ray far more offensive. She goes ahead and puts her face on Nabisco products and Dunkin Donuts, and then turns around and tries to speak out about childhood obesity and getting families to cook more! What a hypocrite!

Baffling Food Trends

I love rutt's hut! You are so right though, "haute"dogs are a very annoying food trend.

In Branchburg NJ Geenie's Weenies recently opened with all kinds of fancy hotdogs, I will be curious to see if it lasts.
