Cleaning up after dinner.

Exactly this.

Going to Quebec city tonight, must-go places to eat?

Ashton for the poutine...Mini avec saucisses!

ISO Turkey Sausage / Links

Call Boucherie Chez Vito on Fairmount...514-277-1981. They'll most likely make them for you if you ask.

Best Price Around on Unibroue Beer?

I stocked up on the sample cases that were on sale a few weeks ago, though winter hibernation has basically depleted my supplies. The cases included Maudite, Trois Pistoles, Blonde de Chambly and Eau Benite.

Any suggestions on a reliable source at a good price?

My Montreal Butchers Review

Agreed here as well concerning Chez Vito. If you weren't blown away, you were DIW.

Good Food in the Distillery District?

So finally, we decided to forgo ant culinary experience in Toronto and ate at Popeye's chicken while walking down to our venue.

After the show, we did end up at Betty's and had beer and burgers and onion rings...cool place (for Toronto... ;) ).

Good Food in the Distillery District?

Checked out the places mentioned and it looks like C'ect What is gonna be the winner.

I'll follow up after I get back.

Thanks!

Good Food in the Distillery District?

Sound Academy, and we're staying right near the Eaton Center, so anywhere in between will be considered :)

Good Food in the Distillery District?

Ah! I should mention that I'm coming in from Montreal, and am a regular on our board. I'm not looking at all for a huge gastronomic experience...more of a good pub grub run with some good beer if possible.

Thanks for the suggestions...we planned to go to Mill St. but it's closed for renovations until at least next week. Hence this post :)

Good grocery in Verdun or Lasalle area, good prices?

It's in the same mall as a GIANT Sami Fruits as well. I don't really go over there that much though.

Good grocery in Verdun or Lasalle area, good prices?

I can help you with LAsalle.

Frutta Si on Shevchenko corner Jean Brillon has all you're looking for in a PA style vibe. Fruits and veggies are cheap, though must be consumed relatively soon after purchase. The meat has gotten infinitely better over the last few years, and pork abounds. The cheese and deli selection is pretty darn good as well.

Fruiterie Dollard is great as well, same as above without the butcher.

For a real butcher, La Preference on Dollard is fantastic, and the owners are great. Whatever you need they will have for you at great prices.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Good Food in the Distillery District?

Coming in to town tomorrow night and need good pub eats for supper. We're walking to a nearby music venue afterwards, which is why we've chosen the district.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks in advance!

Where can I find Golden Cockerel Ginger Beer???

Grace ginger beer has become my go-to actually. It's REALLY spicy though (in a great way).

Available in all ethnic food shops.

Italian resto for party of 15 or so, private room preferred

I've been to La Medusa on Drummond below St. Catherine a few times recently.

GREAT food and service, nice place, a separate room for parties.

Out of way, "cheapish/mid-priced" Montreal resto for Sat night, maybe BYOB

Another vote for Petit Plateau..BYOB as well.

Offer Alain a glass of your beverage as well...he deserves it!

HOW FAR DO I HAVE TO DRIVE FOR A CRAB HOUSE?

I know there is usually some available in Rivere du Loup and around...4 hours each way and a beautiful drive!

"Soul Evident" French Kitchen in Montreal

MAS Cuisine is a great choice. Chef Michel is a really nice guy, and it's small and intimate. Lots of meat confit! ;)

The part of town is considered less interesting, but worth the few minutes it'll take for you to get there. Plus if the weather is nice, you can drive west along Lasalle Boulevard a few miles and check out the St. Lawrence River as you'll be pretty much on it.

Casse-croutes in Bas St-Laurent?

Ah! As well, if you can stop into Drummondville on the way around lunchtime or suppertime, Casse Croute Chez Beaulac has THE BEST poutine in Quebec (I know I'm putting myself out there but I'm willing to back myself up ;) ).

Casse-croutes in Bas St-Laurent?

Well, on the way there, Ashton is always a safe bet...Mini Poutine with saussices is the classic.

You have to stop at Niemand Bakery in Kamouraska...HAVE TO. It's a few minutes off the 20 and worth every minute. The chocolatines and almondines are to die for, noisette cake, feuilleté with tomato and feta...EVERYTHING is unbelievable.

In RDL, yes the Mini-Putt is definitely the place to go for poutine...well worth stopping in actually. As well, there are a few interesting restos there, though one that is particularly good and fun is L'Estaminet. Lots of different beer on tap and in bottles, and the food is a cut above pub fare, the place itself is very nice, and pricing is very reasonable. I've eaten there many times and never been disappointed.

Ice cream at Ali Baba is always good at the end of the 20 towards Rimouski...good stuff.

If I think of anything else, I'll check back in :)

Best birthday BYOB?

This. And share a glass of wine with Alain in the kitchen.

ur olive oil brands

I just pick up whatever 3 litre brand Tino at Chez Vito recommends that he has in stock at the time I need it.

Can't go wrong.

brunoise..... what happened????

To Verdun!

Mas Cuisine (the chef/owner is the original chef from the original Brunoise). Out of the way for hockey, but if you want good food...

Pokemon cake

I'm 99% sure Dairy Queen still has Pokeman cakes available...expensive though (and good I might add).

This coming from the father of a 3 year old who is obsessed with Pac Man. I made his cake myself...made a round one, cut out one slice, iced it up, and voila!

Food Gift Baskets

Give the girls at Fiori a call...they make the greatest Italian speciality food/chocolate/gift item baskets in the city.

Best duck confit in Montreal?

...and in the spirit of new info not found in the above posts, I'll add that the best that I have had in a resto is Mas Cuisine in Verdun (and you can buy them sous-vide at Boucherie Chez Vito).

Best Chocolate Croissant in Montreal

Can't help you with Montreal, but the greatest chocolatine this side of the Atlantic is from Nieman's in Kamouraska.

Actually, I'd go so far as to say it's the best bakery period this side of the Atlantic.

Seriously.

Eat well in Gaspésie!

The resto in RDL is called L'Estaminet. Pretty good, actually.

I know the region pretty well, and the best poutine in town is, believe it or not, an the Mini-Putt (don't laugh...I'm serious).

I drove right by the Cantine de la Gare in Rimouski Monday afternoon...I should have stopped.

new restaurant on Newman blvd

They ordered 3 entrés I think, plus sushi, plus main courses. It was a kinda celebration/party, so they went all out.

They couldn't finish all the food they ordered, that's why I got to enjoy the leftovers :)

She said the pricing was very reasonable. Don't forget, this is LaSalle...expensive or bad QPR does NOT work here.

new restaurant on Newman blvd

We live close by, and the girlfriend went with a friend last night. She loved the food, and said the decor and music were kinda cool. Service was very good and food inexpensive and VERY good.

I ate the leftover General Tao for lunch earlier and while not a typical GT, it was actually very good.

They ordered and ate tons of food and got our for under $100 total for both tax and tip included.

And they did BTOW.

Tonic water

Boucherie Chez Vito (corner Fairmount and St. Urbain)sells both the large and small bottles. I saw them there last week.
