Preparation for baby's arrival

5 years ago, I was in the same boat and made a freezer full of stuff for dinners but failed to think of lunches and snacks...great idea to ask here. I had made some homemade granola which I loved with yogurt and fruit. Made me feel so good...And I did some great stock and froze it and just added fresh veggies for soup.

One thing that tasted good during this time was a "platter" of fresh veggies that I cut up once every few days and put in a zip bag and then made a quick hummas and that was a great lunch.

Good luck to you and don't forget to schedule a date night as soon as the baby is born (we did it at 6 weeks) and then we would plan and talk about that dinner. It was something fun to look forward to.

Good luck and happy eating and parenting.

Omaha restaurant recommendations near quest center?

There are just a couple of choices NEAR the quest center but if you walk a handful of blocks to the south..you're in business. I agree with Ms...and stokes...great choices. Blue is a fun choice for sushi and an amazing happy hour at the fun fun bar upstairs! I like Michels for mexican in that area. Have fun!

Driving along I-80

York NE - Chances R is a classic..it's in town...about 6 miles off 80
Lincoln, NE - take the 9th street exit and go downtown..about 6 miles off 80...to P street and you'll be in the haymarket...buzzard billys or misty's in downtown are both great

in Iowa.. stop in the amana colonies...and have some good german style food

Garnishes to set on fire?

It will work much better with 151....It won't flame for more than a few minutes..2 maybe? But the effect is pretty impressive to guests and I'm guessing that is what you want. Best of luck..also, I've seen this go bad...have something on hand nearby to put out that fire...I saw bananas foster go bad once....spill onto a cordless phone and melt that badboy. Take care.

We call them Gypsy Eggs. What do you call them?

Same here, eggs in a blanket. But pigs in a blanket were sausages in dough...however my husband calls pigs in a blanket a cabbage roll with sausage inside. Love this thread.

Condiment crazy

I worked for the popcorn board here in the US and traveled to Mexico for snackfood shows, etc. and Popcorn is commonly served as street food with a squeeze of lime and tabasco also! Plain unbuttered popcorn.

Healthy snack to keep in car in varying temperatures

I do almonds in the little cans which makes them easy to dip into and reseal. I also like dried banana chips...again, out of the sunlight. I've never had an issue of those items and extreme cold or heat. Oh, and pretzels, the little ones in ziplock bags. Happy Snacking

anyone else ever heard of this

Oh yes...my mom made us the same...we loved denver omlets and she made this too. She wasn't a great cook either. The difference for me was no mustard and yes to cheddar melted on top...I think mine was the Nebraska version rather than southern!

She served it with hashbrowns. yummy

Cookbook Question - Whose Cookbooks Rarely Disappoint You? Books Where Recipes Always Appeal?

I love the goodness of Barefoot contessa...Never made anything of hers that didn't delight.

For cookies and cakes and pies, etc. I go with Carole Walters. Seriously money every time!!

happy cooking friends.

Is Candy food? Great candy shop in Lincoln, NE

If you haven't been to Rocket Fizz in lincoln NE at 70th and A streets, you should check it out. For this 40 something, the trip down memory lane was worth it. Old school candy and bottled pop is all that they have....serious fun. Pop rocks and cherry mash and marathon bars, and zots all made my buy list.

It's just a cool experience to go in and check it out. The pop is availabe in single bottles either warm or from the cooler..they'll pop the top for the ride home.

Check it out!!

Favorites in Lincoln, NE

As a lifelong resident of Lincoln NE I realize that I am in a rut and I haven't been to a new place in a while...I love Parthenon, Mistys, Vincenzos, Fireworks but would love to hear what others have to say to "freshen up" my local dining experience.

Let loose and tell me what you like!!!

Best restaurant in Des Moines?

I love the chicken spidini at Latin King. This spot is a bit tough to find (it's right next to the roberts dairy plant) and is really goood...but not latin at all! lol

Omaha Downtown - recommendations

I can not say this strongly enough...DIXIE QUICKS...it's downtownish, is amazing, and unique sort fo hole. It was on dinners drive ins and dives but don't let that stop you. It's especially good for breakfast but it is soooo small you need to make reservations for weekends.

Other dives, Amatos on 62nd and Center. Homemade sausage, ricotta and sauce. Their ricotta pancakes kill. I had them this weekend and am still thinking about it.

Have a great time in the big O and let us know what you ate.

Cheese Frenchies

Cheese Frenchees are an amazingly simple dish that just screams FRIED CHEESE. Kings was the place to go in Nebraska for these and now the only place I can think of that you can get them are Don and Millies. Crispy, molten cheese, sooo good. With a thick milkshake...even better
