Best cupcake in Vegas?
I'm heading out to Vegas (from LA) tomorrow to celebrate my bf's birthday. Since I will be arriving a few hours before he does I figured I would use that time to get him a cake or something and have it set up in the hotel room for his arrival. After some thinking I realized a cake is too complicated and is a bit too much, so I'm opting for cupcakes. Apparently the cupcake craze in LA in not quite the same in Vegas. After some research I found 3 cupcake places - The Cupcakery, Cupcake Lane Bakery, and Mad Hatter Cupcakes - and all their reviews seem mediocre at best. I cannot seem to figure out which of the three is better because all of them have had some pretty negative (as well as positive) reviews. The most important thing I'm looking for is taste - a moist, tasty cupcake; looks can come second. I'm not huge on frosting considering most of the time there is way more frosting than one can or would care to eat. Which one is the better cupcake place?? Who has a superb chocolate or red velvet cupcake?
Any breakfast/brunch/lunch suggestions for NOW?
So far, we've had the usual dim sum and Mama's for brunch. No mexican food for this morning, not after we had a greasy phillycheesesteak late laste night!
Any breakfast/brunch/lunch suggestions for NOW?
I have until about 3pm before I have to head out to the airport, but right now we need some food. Any suggestions on a breakfast/brunch/lunch place that's good and does not require reservations? Our hotel is in the Union Square area, so we're open to anything, as long as we can get back here by about 2pm.
LATE NIGHT CHINESE DUMPLINGS IN LA--NEED SUGGESTIONS
I've pretty much lived in the SGV all my life and I don't know of any place where you can get dim sum late at night. However, you can get dumplings (like xiao long bao or even noodle soup) at Dragon Mark. It's located in a mini-mall on Valley Blvd. between Del Mar and New Ave (I think it's a Lollicup that is located at the outer edge of this mini mall) It's not the best place for dumplings, but if you have a craving at 11pm or even a little later, you can get it there.
Yum Cha Cafe--any seating?
You can get cash-back at 99 Ranch Markets...I've had to do that twice, but I think the max I got was $40.
W. L.A. - Chinese Market?
If you don't mind the drive, head out to the San Gabriel valley and you'll find a handful of Chinese markets to suit your needs. LOTS of restaurants in the area, too.
SF for Labor Day
My boyfriend and I are heading up to SF for Labor Day weekend. This is our 3rd, or maybe 4th, time to SF together and we've visited all the touristy places, and are pretty tired of it. Any suggestions on good restaurants or places to go? We're flying up so we will not have a car--it'll have to be walking distance or any place that we can go by taxi, BART, or any type of local transportation. I'm also looking for a really good dim sum place (preferably cantonese style), something comparable to LA or better? I've been to Koi Palace (which we both loved!) but it's hard getting there without a car. We've also visited Yank Sing, which personally I didn't like much (more so because of the food than the prices).
The last time I was in SF I found a couple of spots that I absolutely loved - the Ferry Building and Cafe Jacqueline. We also tried out Zuni which was great. I'm considering a visit to Chez Panisse (the cafe), Slanted Door, and Mama's for breakfast this time, or maybe Farmer Brown's....any thoughts, tips on those places? How about other places? Do you guys have any really good Shabu Shabu places up there? Lastly, any suggestions for nightlife in the SF area for a couple in their mid-20's?? Any and all tips, suggestions, and advice (for restaurants and places to go/see) welcomed!! Thanks!
