Do you remember what's in your freezer?

Holy Cow! thegforency---the thread you refered me to is amazing!---I don't feel so bad now that I've read how bad others experiences have been with hoarding food in their freezers. I said before in my original question that I thought this was a universal problem, now I am convinced. Hopefully someone will come up with a simple solution---I like the dry eraser board idea, and will give it a try, also the other suggestion about using different shelves for various foods is good but I am already doing that, and still losing things. I think maybe some of the problem is we're lazy when it comes to keeping written inventories with an in and out inventory system. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Do you remember what's in your freezer?

I'm fairly new to this site, hope I'm not repeating past subjects, but thought I'd seek a possible solution to my problem of cooking or buying wonderful things, placing them in the freezer then forget they're in there. Best I can research, this seems to be a universal problem. I've searched around for inventory plans, apt's etc, but all seem to be to combersom with lots of entering of info, etc. Is there a simple solution somewhere I am just not aware of? thanks

Looking for chili recipes!

Thanks paulj, I could'n ask for a better explanation---I will now get to work and have some fun experimenting. I happen to have Gebhardt's in my pantry, but haven't used yet. Will give it a try and then move on to other blends, etc. Thanks again.

Looking for chili recipes!

Thanks for your post--- I am also very interested to learn about making chili, especially about the "chili powders" and peppers. Most chilli recipes just list chili powder, don't say anything about what kind, or brands and as we know there are many blends and pure ground powders to choose from. Does the kind of chili powder make that much difference in the outcome of the dish? I was wondering if most folks who can make a really good pot of chilli is mosly made using pure ground chilli with your own added spices or "store bought" blends? Should I keep trying different blends till I find one I'm happy with or should I use "pure" ground chilli, and what kinds? Also, what about grinding my own chilli peppers, is there an advantage, and how do I find which is the best? Is there such a thing as a good, better and best, or is it simply personal taste? As you can see from my questions, I'm a novice when it comes to chilli peppers and making chili. Help needed for sure. Thanks.

LOOKING FOR GOOD FARMERS MARKET

Thanks for the info from all!-----Coming from south Louisiana where farmers markets cover blocks of area and have "you name it" items available, it's dissapointing to hear these reports. With the size of this city, great restaurants, some of the top chefs in the country I expected to find the biggest and best farmers market in the country. Hopefully things will change and get better soon. thanks again.

LOOKING FOR GOOD FARMERS MARKET

I live not far from Vegas and would like to find a really good farmers market. I see several listed on line but can't tell much about them. Which is the biggest and best for fresh and direct "off the farm" produce and other homemade goodies? I read where the one on Dean Martin is open every Thursday from 10:00 to 1:00, and started out "for chef's only" but now open to public. Would appreciate some suggestions, thanks.

Boudin Sausage

This is not your question, but thought i'd throw it in--i'm a cajun from south louisiana and suggest you think about making your own boudin-- it's not difficult if you don't stuff the casings and make balls or patties in the place of a "sausage". Boudin is nothing but a rice dressing (dirty rice) with pork ground meat, rice, seasonings and a little pork liver. Recipes are available on line---hope this helps.

Good Crab in Las Vegas?

Live Dungesness crab is almost always available in Chinatown, Vegas. My favorite place is Cathy House at 5300 Spring Mount Rd. They can and will prepare the crab as you like. Also they have live fish, shrimp, etc. in fish tanks. Good place to eat, Dim Sum is excelent. . Ask for DJ. --A good place and very consistant.
