Most Interesting Bakeries in LA?

I think if we are going to discuss bakeries then we should not put in places that only make donuts or croisants. A real bakery that makes everything from breads to cakes should be it.

Most Interesting Bakeries in LA?

The best bakery that has been around for at least 5 decades is Benes. You now can get Benes baked goods at most Gelson's and if you really like good European stuff try to order a Rumpelmeyer Cake. You are guaranteed to freak!
I am not sure if they still do, but they had two stores on 3rd street in back of Cedars Sinai in West Hollywood.

Are Manners Getting Worse?

Oh common! Of course manners are getting worse. There is no discipline, no phone etiquette, no eating etiquette, kids are not taught to eat with their mouth closed and the adults are just as bad these days.
The waiters are getting worse as well. It is rare to find a restaurant where a waiter knows which side to serve from, take plates away from, how to set a table, how to serve wine and so on.
It is getting ridiculous!

Stop being a cheapskate and pay. She will think more of you and you will eventually realize that there is something called class. If she offers, you may consider it but I would still pay or if she insists then let her after some grumbling. Makes you look good.

Is Organic Food for Elitist Jerks?

That is what used to be the attitude but now with the preponderance of evidence in favor of healthy and organic eating it is hard to argue that it is not a good idea. The effort should be in making it more available and less expensive so all of us could afford it all the time. I do believe that the time is coming when the local growing and less cost for storage and distribution will make these items more available at a lesser price and then we will not be able to say that it is only for the elites.

Scandalous Restaurant Review Prompts the Question: Is Good Service Dead?

Service IS what makes a difference between an okay restaurant and a great dining experience. I put myself though college being a great waiter. I took pride in my work, learned all about the food I was serving, learned all about the wines I was serving, was able to make recommendations and generally did my best to make my customers feel special. It is a rare moment indeed that I get that kind of service these days. I actually can not remember the last time I did. It is very unfortunate that the owners do not understand that. It's all about training the staff not just slinging hash. You want that, you can go to Denny's. You may get better service as well.

Basic Steamed Lobster

Although this will be fine, you will do better if you add a few other ingredients into the water to aromatise the water and steam to make the lobster sweeter and tastier.
You can go as simple as getting a broil pack from the store and placing in a cheesecloth into the water or you can add some mustard seeds, coriander seeds, whole allspice, dill seeds, bay leaves and a couple of cloves into the pot. You will like the result.
