4 girls..4 days in Charleston

Looking forward to our first trip to Charleston, however having a hard time trying to figure out how to fit all the fantastic places into our itinerary. We'll arrive around lunch time on Saturday and fly out late Tuesday afternoon.

We're thinking about doing a byo sunset cruise one of the nights, so if there's a place with a great late night specials (after 8:30ish) - let me know!

On our list of restaurants:
McCrady's (worth the whole experience or just have some snacks and cocktails at the bar?)
Husk
FIG
The Ordinary (maybe just happy hour?)
The Hominy Grill (better for brunch or lunch?)
Rutledge Cab Co (any reviews on this place yet?)

And for cocktails (and poss food):
Macintosh (bacon happy hour - yes, please!! Stay for dinner?)
Grocery (dirty pickle martini) - worth staying for dinner? or brunch? Very excited to see they are counting down to soft shells.
Pearlz ($5 martini happy hour)
Closed for Business
Gin Joint
Bin 152

Is the coconut cake at the Peninsula Grill worth a taste? What else must we try while in Charleston?

Are there any good places to grab a drink and see live music?

Girls Night Bucks County

I highly suggest checking out Heirloom in Chestnut Hill. I head out of the city to meet friends in the 'burbs on a monthly basis and Heirloom is by far our favorite! And it's BYO which makes us love it more!
We've also recently been to Deterra and From the Boot in Ambler. Deterra was decent. Their tasting menu was good and reasonably priced. From the Boot was pretty basic Italian. The menu is a bit overwhelming!

Heading down for our 3rd year and we've been to the following:
Madame jeanettes
Carte Blanche
Waky wahoos
Smokey joes

And some others that aren't worth mentioning.

Looking for somewhere new to try. Any recs for 2 fools & a bull or open kitchen? Anywhere else for some Philly foodies to try?

What are the must tries at Han Dynasty?

We did 3 for the cucumbers and 4 for the noodles. We both agreed that we could have probably bumped up the heat a bit...next time!
The menu online lists the noodles as an 8 but the real menu has them as a 6. So I was confused as to how they're actually measuring the heat.

What are the must tries at Han Dynasty?

We had a great meal last night! I was worried about the heat and sloppy service (reviews on yelp!) but neither turned out to be a problem. We started with the spicy crispy cucumbers with the spice turned down a bit - loved them!! Both my friend and I could not stop eating the Dan Dan Noodles. What is in that dish that makes it so addictive!! The table next to us had ordered the scallion dish (no heat) and it looked appealing so we decided to add the beef dish to our order.
I was happy to see their beer/wine selection has been expanded past what they have listed on their site. I'm not typically a cider drinker but with the heat outside yesterday and the fear of heat in the dishes I opted for one. Worked perfect with our meal. Can't wait to return to try more dishes and turn up the heat!

What are the must tries at Han Dynasty?

The Dan Dan noodles are already on my list. Although I'm going to have to request a bit less heat as they're listed as an 8 on their site.

What are some other dishes that I must try?

There will be 2 of us dining tonight so suggestions on good sharing dishes would be great!

Favorite restaurants in Puerto Rico?

We enjoyed the short rib stuffed burger and onion wedges at #12 El Jefe Burger. Cute sitting area in the back where you're surrounded by banana trees.

We also enjoyed Jose Enrique. It was our favorite meal of our visit!
Niche is also worth a visit!

Small Jersey shore joints

My bf and I ate at Quahogs last week. I think the fish ribs at Quahogs are worth a visit. My summer isn't complete without a few plates of them! We also had the mussels as an app followed by softshell crabs (3 decent sized crabs) and a whole branzino which were both delicious! My only wish for Quahogs is that they would get their servers on the ball. I feel like they're never staffed properly but I feel that way about most places at the shore.
The owner of Quahogs, Lucas Manteca is also overseeing the kitchen at the Ebbitt Room and the Rusty Nail which are both worth a visit.
A friend just went to Avalon Rose and enjoyed her meal. I believe it's BYO. She thought it was better than the Diving Horse in food and price.
Enjoy your visit!

ISO of the name of the cafe/restaurant at 12th & Spruce

I tried Odd Fellows last night and unfortunately it did not impress. There were 3 parties seated when we arrived and it still took over 10 minutes to be greeted and another 10 minutes to get our wine opened. We were interested in the AYE option only to find out that are not offering it anymore. They're looking to do a tasting menu over the next couple months.
We started with the guacamole, arepitas and mushroom flatbread. The guac was standard but curious as to when a small plate of guac with a handful of semi-broken chips took on a $9 pricetag. The arepitas were tasty although the masa cake was a bit dry. We expected the mushroom flatbread to be full of flavor based on the description only to be let down by a doughy base and flavorless topping. We decided to split the fish tacos as our entree. The tacos were tasty but left us wishing they were more like the ones at El Vez as both myself and my dining partner love so much. All and all it was a mediocre dinner but unfortunately did not satisfy my need to return any time soon.

Does anyone know the name of the cafe/restaurant at the corner of 12th & Spruce? It is across from Tria and next to the Shanti Yoga studio. I rememeber walking by a few weeks ago and they offer all you can eat nights and I think it's BYO. Thanks!

Kentucky fried guinea hen (voted favorite dish by the table)

And of course the desserts - the doughnuts and swiss roll are not to be missed!

Enjoy!

SAN JUAN restaurant questions

We ordered a little bit of everything from Santaella. It took a long time to get our bottle of wine. In fact I think food started coming out before our wine was presented and poured. No one explained our dishes and our server was constantly missing. From what I remember we had the chicken livers, a special empanada (meat I think), the rolls (disappointing), a special croquette, a lamb chop app special, and I think both of our dinners were specials. We didn't even bother with dessert. We just wanted out!

I think Jose Enrique definitely did more of an authentic presentation. We really enjoyed everything there - esp the Fried whole snapper - delicous! Unfortuantely we didn't stay for dessert because we had to drive to Fajardo for our Biobay tour :)

The Lobster at Niche was one of the best we've encountered in our travels. I only recommend a cab because the streets seemed dark. I was with my BF but I don't think I would have walked alone. We drove to Santaella and Jose Enrique but due to the way the streets are I'd also recommend a cab. It shouldn't cost more than $10 each way.

SAN JUAN restaurant questions

My BF and I stayed at the Renaissance in February. We dined at Santaella and were not impressed. Food was pricey and service was spotty. We looooved Jose Enrique which was recommeded to us by the manager at Niche. Highly recommend NIche also. Great spot and walkable from the Condado area, although if you're alone you might be better off with a cab.
Be sure to get to Jose Enrique early. They don't take reservations. We were there at 6:30 and the place was already filling up. By the time we left there was a 2 hour wait!!
Casa Lola was on our list but we ran out of time!!

A friend just returned and really enjoyed Marmalade.

Check out BUNS for burgers and cold beer. Much better for the $$ than at the hotel!

Enjoy your trip!

Oysters

I was recently at the Oyster House and only saw raw and fried oysters on their menu. I just returned from New Orleans and fell in love with charbroiled oysters. Looks like Catahoula might have what I'm looking for. I haven't seen many reviews on this restaurant..might be worth a try!
