Markham/Richmond Hills best sushi place for nigiri?

+1 Inatei

Fuzz Box: East Coast donair in Toronto

Agree, the meat is not authentic, but still tasty. I got the biggest one and thought it was way too small though compared to what I would eat in Halifax or Calgary(they have good donairs)

Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?

I haven't had Phoenix for a long time, I should try it again just to remember it, but yeah its my favourite chicken rice. Except for today...they didn't have any of the thick soy (well thats what they said) and the chicken came with some sesame oil/soy sauce already drizzled on it. Weird...but usually its great IMO.

I was really turned off though today because of the gross laksa and not mentioning they didn't have the right condiments for the rice. In a hissy fit while eating I vowed never to go back there, but I probably will some time when stuck at pacific mall.

Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?

Please don't! this place has the best hainanese chicken rice in gta but the laksa is disgusting.... Avoids the laksa, get the chicken

Grand Electric

I thought the tuna ceviche was pretty good. Overall the food and atmosphere was great. i'd be there all the time if I didn't have to wait.

David Chang on his TO Outposts

Yeah I don't get any of the stuff you mentioned in the OP from those quotes at all.

The restaurant is gourmet malaysia. The food court is still open and is still gourmet garden. Both will always be named gourmet garden to me.

While you're at it, give 1 2 snacks a try at glenwatford (its close by). I actually prefer their laksa to GG.

Kinton Ramen - First Taste

I really think this is underrating it by a very wide margin. I had the shio today and it was a very rich and fatty broth. I would say Niwate (or whatever its called in J-town) is a little bit better than kenzo. I'd say this is a lot better. I'm not like a ramen guru or anything but I've eaten more than my fair share in tokyo and nyc and I think its almost just as good. I think the noodles need just a bit more..something...not sure what yet. I think I would have liked them a little bit fatter and chewier.

Thai One On, (Avenue Rd north of Wilson) Aw c'mon, I should have known though!

I would check out pho mi asia for asian kind of close to your area. A bit west though, on wilson near keele.

Thai One On, (Avenue Rd north of Wilson) Aw c'mon, I should have known though!

Its owned and operated by Sri Lankans.

Good quality ice cream to take home?

I buy kawartha at costco all the time. They have vanilla and moose tracks.

Grand Electric

They have a big patio, but I guess its not open yet. Once that opens, they will have increased their capacity by like 4x or something, so hoepfully wait times are less. There are also some bars close by where you can drink while waiting for your table.

Grand Electric

They don't take reservations. Unless you go really early, like before they open, expect lineups. I went on a monday night at 9pm a month ago and there was 1.5hr wait

looking for vietnamese sandwich

curry and a roll dish is different from the sandwiches.

Hattori kitchen knives

Jck is great for Canadians, but yeah support the locals first they are both very nice and have competitive prices

Never expect the day I will recommend Dim Sum at, 'of all places' - Chili Secrets!!

I'm not 100% sure but I think prices for S/M/L are 2.20 on weekdays and 2.50 on weekends. I think its all day, not early bird.

ALso I think its jsut for the regular dim sum menu. THe specialty northern and sichuan stuff cost more.

Grand Electric

My spicy squid was delicious and NOT soggy. Definitely try it again!

Frozen Dim Sum

The siu mai has a green pea at the top of each one. It looks so familiar...I am sure I've seen this at a restaurant recently but not sure which one. Of course, just because they both have a pea on top, doesn't mean it must be the same one.

Frozen Dim Sum

Thanks very much for the first tip, I will for sure give them a try.

I will also look for the shanghainese one. Is it in the same plaza at "One Two Snacks"?

Never expect the day I will recommend Dim Sum at, 'of all places' - Chili Secrets!!

This has been my go-to dimsum place for the last couple years, my ideal price/quality point.

I like ordering the "beef roll" and being able to order dan dan mian and other sichuan dishes with my dim sum. Same menu at sichuan legend on midland, but the hwy7 location is roomier.

Frozen Dim Sum

I picked some up from ah fong on highway 7. probably wont try it until a couple days though

Frozen Dim Sum

I read a post by Charles Yu a while ago talking about a lot of dim sum restaurants getting their dumplings from a supplier, frozen, and that they were actually pretty decent. There was no mention of where the supplier was though.

Anyone know places to get GOOD frozen dimsum to steam at home?

Thanks

Kinton Ramen - First Taste

How big is the place?

Tap Phong..

I saw one at Nikolai and Nella. Both seemed a bit flimsy and way too expensive.

If you search "knife roll" on amazon.ca there are a few messermeisters and some wustof ones, and the price is unbeatable. I think they are on sale right now, right in and under your price range depending on the model.

Tap Phong..

Was not impressed with what was available in Toronto stores. check Amazon if you can wait a bit

Hip Toronto restaurant ideas needed - good food, service with terrace or outdoor space

Oops I skipped over that requirement. I doubt they will take reservations. with such a strong emphasis on hip and foodie the op used, it might be worth the wait. their patio is huge

Where is the best Korean BBQ restaurant?

Not all of them are Chinese
