Kosher Shabbat dinner delivery
su xing vegan chinese delivers, as does blackbird vegan pizza (don't knock it, the pizza and soups are great and you can get an it's not cheesesteak). For a list of kosher caterers, call Lower Merion Synagogue.
Need Kosher Style Caterer
Had I known about it at the time, Wegmans noncertified kosher catering (cherry hill NJ) would have been perfect. Thank you.
Passover in Philly area?
Definitely Penn Hillel. I have a hard time imagining the burger or falafel places staying open. Thank you.
Need Kosher Style Caterer
Kosher caterers certainly will and do seder packages delivered the day of. You will probably do better getting everything you need with them. A nonkosher caterer might end up giving you traditional jewish food like challahs and hamentschen, plus I wouldn't want to try to explain what I needed on a seder plate. Thank you.
AMZING KOSHER FOOD IN PHILLY YESTERDAY!
We went for dinner last night to the one on 19th and it was great! I loved the lamb burger, the side of israeli salad fed all 3 of us (one being a 4 year old) as did the side of fries. The best part was the selection of homemade sauces on the counter. The chipotle was truly smoky and spicy. It seems like they are getting good business from the William Penn house residents down the street. Also service was fast and friendly. Thank you.
Shane confectionary reopened
The two brothers that own the Franklin Fountain have reopened Shane Confectionary next door. They make 75% of the stuff themselves, including their own chocolate coins. This is the first place in town I've founf that has homemade gelt. Try the virginia dandies, caramel and nut coated buttercream. A beautiful store with lots of interesting old fashioned candies. Thank you.
KOsher Thanksgiving in Philadelphia
Homemade goodies by Roz (Orthodox hashgacha, all pareve) does an amazing streusel cake and great fruit pies (ask for the ones with the crumb toppings). At 5th and Lombard in town. Thank you.
Advice on Thanksgiving trip to center city Philadelphia
There is also a kosher experience in the shop rite in cherry hill with nice rotisserie chickens and some other prepared foods. Thank you.
High end Chinese and/or non-Oriental vegetarian/organic/vegan in Philly recommendations?
I assumed the poster was referring to our many Chinese vegetarian resaurants like New Harmony, Singapore, Su Xing, etc. Thank you.
High end Chinese and/or non-Oriental vegetarian/organic/vegan in Philly recommendations?
Unfortunately Horizons is closed and their new place Vedge is not open yet. Mi Lah vegetarian is supposedly good and not too expensive. Meritage has a vegan tasting menu on Tuesdays. The Chinese places probably do not have the ambiance you are looking for. Thank you.
Center City Philadelphia: DiBruno Bros now has kosher meat
They have been doing this for over a year. At first they had a great selection, but as the manager said, "everyone says thank you, thank you, but they don't buy." So now the selection is not as big. Thank you.
Weekday breakfast in Philly
Lacroix at the Rittenhouse has a nice $16 express buffet weekdays, which includes their great breakfast pastries, fresh oj, some hot basics like eggs and meat, lox, fruit and I think coffee. Thank you.
A quiet dinner place for conversation in Rittenhouse Square area?
How about Fri Sat Sun? I've often taken older relatives there for this very reason. The food/menu is a bit old fashioned but everything is good, especially the specials. P.S. I would not recommend Devon for anything except the biscuits, they are pretty mediocre and a branch of Houlihans, I believe.
Spread bagelry reopened
It looks like Spread Bagelry has reopened. I heard they were planning on lowering prices but haven't stopped in yet. Thank you.
Anyone know anything about the Terrace on Peachtree at the Ellis Hotel
I had dinner at the bar at the Terrace last week, after reading a good review on Creative Loafing Atlanta. It was 'wine hour' when guests at the hotel get a free glass of wine, and several wines are on sale for $7 a glass for others. I had a nice glass of pinot noir, and the crusted tofu entree that came with shredded carrots, snap peas, and a rice/quinoa mix. The entree was very good, light and flavorful. I also got a free half glass of their new basil gin martini which was very refreshing. Apparently they have a new chef as of about 3 months ago, and have really focused on local produce. The staff were very nice and interesting. I would definitely recommend this place, although I agree it has more of a lounge feel than a restaurant. It's not nearly as stuffy/fancy as the website appears. Thank you.
Rehoboth Beach Report
Here are some highlights and updates from our recent trip to Rehoboth.
On the trip down we stopped at the Milford Diner for their amazing coconut custard pie and some giant chocolate meringue pie (more of a chocolate cream pie). They had signs up they are now 24-hour.
The fried chicken platter, fish sandwich, fries, coleslaw and birch beer from Gus & Gus were the usual summer classics. They said, “the chicken will take 10 minutes, we’re making up a fresh batch, can you wait?” I said, “We’ve waited all year for your fried chicken, we can wait 10 more minutes!”
Take-out lunch from Greenman took a long time (40 minutes) but was totally worth it. The Love Potion and watermelon-canteloupe juices were fabulous and refreshing, the iced coffee was strong, and the grilled sandwiches were huge with great spicing and fillings. Breakfast at Greenman was a little disappointing because they were out of the crème brulee French toast.
We got ice cream from the place at the end of Rehoboth Ave. Red Velvet was really red velvet icing flavor with pieces of red velvet cake, very good. The Fluffernutter was also great.
Dinner at Salt Air Kitchen was the culinary highlight as always. They have renovated and expanded to have a lot more seating and an open kitchen. They also offer half-size portions of any entree for kids (in addition to a few kid basics like mac n cheese) so our son could eat enjoy some delicious rockfish with asparagus, potatoes and tomatoes. We had the anchovy appetizer with amazing preserved lemon marinade, the parmesan and date appetizer, and the super-creamy burrata with asparagus bruschetta (even the grilled bread it came with was delicious). The crabcakes were great as usual The whiskey white chocolate bread pudding was just ok. The special Manhattan came with a slew of marinated cherries in it and was really top notch. The strawberry pound cake was perfect with delicious in season local strawberries.
We went looking for Jam Bistro (by the owners of Eden) but they have already closed and are planning to renovate and move in to a new space across from Café Azafran. So we ate at Café Azafran and loved it! The tapas are all fantastic and really large (only slightly smaller than a full entrée size). The romesco was to die for. The soft shell crab special came with a beautiful summer squash salad. They recently opened a nice enclosed patio. They also have a basket of toys for kids to play with. Did I mention white and red sangria?
We had one breakfast at Royal Treat thanks to other chowhound’s recommendation. Nice basic food, good home fries and fast service.
Also, a new diner just opened at the corner of first and Wilmington, but we didn’t get to try it.
Thank you.

Rehoboth breakfast
We are looking for a new breakfast place in Rehoboth, walking distance to the main drag. Anything from good grits/southern breakfast to fancy brunch type stuff like mascarpone stuffed french toast to a good diner. We love Greenman and are sick of the mediocre diner in the Brighton Suites. Must be ok with a well behaved toddler. Thank you.
Super hot white horseradish
We just tried BaTampte for the first time and were blown away. Literally I am using it to clear my sinuses this allergy season with justa pinch. It really tastes like fresh. Plus who couldn't love a company run by the fourth generation of the original lower east side pickle stand owners?
Any Passover recipes using maple syrup?
I make the Moosewood cookbook's maple walnut pie recipe. Would be great with that new maccaroon premade crust that's out.
Breakfast in Center City West
Ants Pants on South for easy breakfast or brunch, great creme brulee french toast. Pinkys Buttercup cafe on south for basic breakfast with great creamy grits. Sandys near the river for Greek diner breakfast. Thank you.
rehoboth in mid-november
I see Salt Air's web site says Closed for Renovations. Are they moving out of Rehoboth? Where is this new location on route 9? Doesn't sound like it is walkable from the beach/town. Thank you.
raw saurkraut in center city
Thanks all. I bought some at Kauffmans in RTM, then saw some at Fair Farm Foodstand for half the price.
raw saurkraut in center city
Can anyone recommend a place in Center City to get raw unpasteurized saurkraut to go (a pint or package, not in a restaurant). Thank you.
new organic restaurant in west philly
There is a new organic restaurant at 40th and market in West Philly, Mothers Garden. I haven't tried it yet but it looks like a cute neighborhood type place. Only down side to me is the vegetarian section of the menu includes chicken (and I don't think they mean faux). Thank you.
Kosher in Philadelphia- ASAP
Maccabeam did reopen under a new name. Also there is now Hamifgash (schwarma and kebob type place), run by the original owners of Maxim's in Cherry HIll. And of course there are still the Chinese vegetarian restaurants (Harmony, Singapore, Kingdom of Vegetarians) some of which are under Conservative hashgacha. Thank you.
Kosher, Good Prepared Food to Bring HOme (Philly/Delaware Valley/NE PHilly
Do you mean the Cooper Market? I looked at their web site and it doesn't look kosher (shrimp and crab on the menu). Thank you.
Kosher, Good Prepared Food to Bring HOme (Philly/Delaware Valley/NE PHilly
I haven't tried it yet, but there is a new Glatt take out/catering place on Montgomery Ave in Merion with a nice selection:

Thank you.
Philly-area waterfront restaurants
What about The Pond or Cassis Bistro (attached restaurants, one more formal) in Radnor? They have free parking and a lovely view of their pond. Thank you.
Restaurants near Philly Intnatl. Airport
You can very easily and cheaply take the Septa train from the airport in to Center City Philadelphia and have the world at your fingertips. Thank you.
Need a cheese platter for housewarming party in CC
Oh the poor cheeses suffocating in plastic in the Whole Foods counter. A crottin de chavignol should not be kept inside a plastic deli container (like at WF), it should be resting on a woven matt (like at Dibrunos) breathing free. Thank you.
