Who's Having A Great St. Paddy's Dinner In Boston This Year?

We are going to District 7 in Malden on 3/17 and 3/19 - they are having a special menu that weekend (not sure exactly what yet) and Preacher Jack is playing there on 3/19. He's supposed to be a really great piano player/entertainer. This is our new local hangout. Food is very good and they have a very varied specials list every weekend with some interesting menu items for a pub (cajun mahi mahi, chicken milanese, etc.)

Where are the best pancakes or blueberry panckes near Wakefield?

I like the pancakes at Blue Moon in Wakefield and Brothers Kouzina on Route 1 in Peabody.

baby back ribs??? where?

I recently had a great rack of honey bbq ribs at District 7 in Malden. It's not a rib place but it seems to have rib specials fairly often (ribs aren't on the regular menu). This is our new favorite local restaurant and we've had some other great meals here recently (ex. cajun grilled mahi mahi, cheeseburger, steak tips, etc.)

Butternut Squash Ravioli at Abbondanza

Thanks for the review! I love Abbondanza but haven't been there in a bit so this is a good kick in the butt. My only issue there is that I love the gnocchi so much, it makes it difficult to try something new!

Pubs North of Boston

We tried District 7 a new pub on Pleasant St. in Malden last night and had a really good meal. The atmosphere was intimate and comfortable (dark red walls, pictures of Malden firefighters and fire trucks line the walls). They have a pretty decent selection of microbrews and their Guinness tap looks like a fire hydrant. We started with the buffalo chicken dip which was creamy, spicy, and had a lot of chicken. I had the meat loaf (Monday night special) and it was a generous and tasty portion - three slices of meat loaf with brown gravy - one of the best I've had in a while and the mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy. My husband had the short ribs which I was cautioning him against but they were actually perfectly cooked and the sauce on them was completely addicting. We were very pleasantly surprised by the food at this place and we'll definitely be back!

October Openings and Closings

District 7 opened up this past weekend on Pleasant St. in Malden (down from Hugh O'Neills and All Seasons Table). Don't think it replaced anything but I'm not sure. Some friends of mine checked it out and said the food (pub grub, burgers, steaks, seafood, etc.) was solid especially the prime rib special and that it has a comfortable, neighborhood bar feel. It appears they have a facebook page with a menu up but website has basically a business card up and says it's in development. We'll probably stop in this week after work to check it out.

Nice dinner w/good wine for $150-ish?

I had dinner with a friend at Les Zygomates (near South Station - red line) last night and it was outstanding. I thought the atmostphere was comfortable and stylish and they have a large selection of wines by the glass. The food and service were excellent - I had the scallops which were perfectly seared with asparagus, onions, and morels in a brown butter. It was honestly one of the most delicious scallop dishes I have ever had. My friend had the halibut special (originally it was supposed to be wrapped in bacon but she is a vegetarian and they were very accommodating) which was served on a corn salad (I think). She wanted to lick her plate. We also loved our desserts - I had the stone peach fruit tart with frozen creme fraiche. It had just the right amount of sweetness to finish the meal. I am already planning a trip back to try to raw bar!

ultimate roastbeef kelly or kings?

Billy's is my favorite roast beef anywhere! The roast beef honestly melts in your mouth. Jr. beef, sauce, cheese = YUM!

Let's Talk Iced Coffee

I like the iced coffee from the Grassroots Cafe in the 101 Arch building (directly across Summer Street from Macys with the red awnings). Although I am not really a coffee drinker so I don't know how it truly holds up other than I think it tastes good!

Porto Bello in Wakefield

Same as above - after giving them two chances several years ago and suffering through incredibly bad , slow service (the slowest service I have ever encountered anywhere), I will never go back

Best fries around???

I love the fries at Neptune Oyster. They are the perfect side to the lobster roll with butter. yum!

Craigie on Main advice?

Haven't eaten at Craigie yet but this entire exchange made me chuckle :)

More pho coming to Malden?

Haven't heard about either or those but have heard rumors that a new firefighter themed pub is going in across from the Honey Fitz. With all the new(ish) restaurants (Exchange St., All Seasons) maybe the rest of Malden Square will shape up.

Solid takeout Thai

Thanks for this report - I was hoping this place would be good! I will have to try it soon.

Victor's Italian Express Saugus?

We live right around the corner from Victor's and order there once a week. It's definitely a place that you have to know what to order but if you order the right thing, it's amazing. IMO, Victor's red sauce is a little heavy on the oil so I tend to avoid it although I am a huge fan of his meatballs and order them for parties all the time. My husband loves the cioppino. My favorite is his chicken, ziti and broc - it is a little on the oily side but the sauce is also somewhat cheesy and full of flavor. This past Wed. I tried his meatloaf special for the first time (only available on Wednesdays and generally sells out) - I don't even usually like meat loaf but the meat loaf, gravy, peas and roasted potatos had such a homecooked feel and flavor I ate the whole thing. Am already thinking of ordering it again this Wednesday! :)

Wakefield, MA- Pizza black hole

I LOVE their escarole calzone!

financial district

I really enjoy Kingston Station - it can get a bit loud in there but probably not on a Tuesday night. I love their tomato soup.

Decent place to eat/drink on Rte. 1 in the Saugus area?

I would also recommend Jimmy's - their prime rib and broiled scallops are really good. Other options would be Out of Asia or Angela's for pizza - my husband and I always split a half bacon half mushrooms and eggplant - yum!

Looking for venue near Reading, MA

We've had a couple of family functions, including our rehearsal dinner, in the upstairs room at Harrington's in Wakefield. Food and service were good.

La Vita Mia, Saugus

I believe La Vita Mia moved elsewhere in Saugus. I think the sign says that the North End's famous "Pushcart Cafe" is coming soon.

The Blue Ox

Went here with some friends on Friday night. There was a good crowd when we arrived but we were able to be seated right away. We sat in the bar are at one of the high top tables - very comfortable and allowed us to watch some of the Red Sox game. Bread and maple butter were a good start. We had the fried calamari and the stuff zucchini as appetizers - both were tasty, calamari had a nice light coating. Two of us had the pumpkin ravioli which was a delicious good size serving with a nice brown butter sauce. Hangar steak was tender and the fries were incredible with a little bit of skin, a nice crisp and lightly salted. The gnocci with sausage and broccoli rabe was also a hit but i didn't try it. Desserts looked good but we were way too stuffed. Only bad point was that I didn't care for their house pinot grigio at all - but noticing that our server quickly brought me out a nice sauvignon blanc. We'll definitely return.

Abbondanza in Everett: What to order?

The gnocchi! Also, their bread is divine. For dessert, they have a coffee gelato type sundae that is exceptional.

The One Place You Want to Keep to Yourself - It's OK, We Won't Tell Anyone!

Pasta Market is also my secret place that I rave about on here every chance I get :) I've said it more than once, and I'll say it again, their eggplant parm is the best I've ever had. We now order trays of it for every family event. I think we may have to go there tonight!

Out of Towner trying to find Romantic Restaurant for GF's birthday!

I'd also recommend Hammersley's - my husband and I went for our anniversary last week and sat outside. The setting is very romantic without actually trying to be. We started with the duck confit and for entrees I had the chicken and he had the panroasted lobster. I do have to say that the duck was our favorite part of a very enjoyable meal. The chicken was very good as well but, to be honest, I didn't have the orgasmic reaction to it that many people describe. My husband loved the lobster but it was a bit too spicy for my taste. The bill, with tip, was probably around $170 though.

What happened to Naked Fish in Lynnfield?

Saw a banner up today. Think it said the name was "Nancy's" but I could be remembering wrong and underneath the name it said "fried chicken...something something...ice cold beer."

St Patrick's Day ideas

Last year I went to MJ O'Connors at the Park Plaza in Boston. Food was okay and they had Irish step dancers and music although there are a few different rooms so we were not seated in the room with the music.

This year we are going to the Georgetown Grille in Georgetown. Traditional Irish pub serving traditional Irish food with live music. Hope that helps!

Best Sweet Potato Fries

Jimmy's on Route 1 has great SPFs. I also like the ones at Zaleks in Wakefield.

Wakefield/ Melrose/ Saugus

Absolutely, I got dinner there on Monday :)
