Report on Jay and Lloyd's Deli

Matt. M, I can't seem to find a reference to Lou's on Avenue P near MacDonald anywhere. Do you have more info? I'm intrigued and would love to check it out!

Slider Buns - Brooklyn

Actually, I just saw some a couple days ago in the bakery area at the front of Gristedes in Brooklyn Heights. Hope that helps!

Birthday cake!

I love Veneiro's for birthday cakes. They are old school, but always tasty—and shockingly affordable.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 BEST DISHES AT BROOKLYN RESTAURANTS?

This was harder than I thought:
1. The roast beef sandwich with mozzarella and fried eggplant (and, of course, the secret sauce) at Defonte in Red Hook
2. The Banh Mi at Ba Xuyen in Sunset Park
3. Custard-filled steam buns at Pacificana in Sunset Park
4. The Whoope Pies at Baked in Red Hook
5. Porterhouse at Peter Luger in Wiliamsburg. I know, it's been said. And it's not cheap. But it sure is memorable.

Hatch green chile

Any idea where I can find Hatch green chile, either at a restaurant or in a store?

New Mexican Chiles

Honestly, I have looked everywhere and can't find them. This fall, I may just suck up the cost of shipping and have a box mailed in from Hatch.

Lunch ideas for around 44th Street and 2nd Ave?

I second the suggestion for Boi To Go—not as tasty as banh mi in other parts of NYC, but a find for east midtown. Also, I love the Chinese place—Oriental Noodle—I believe it is on 45th or 44th between Lex and 3rd. They have great dumplings and steamed buns.

Best bagels UWS?

Absolute Bagels is by far the best—I became addicted to them when living on the UWS and nothing else compares! Just ask for whatever is still warm , , ,

Green chile in NYC?

Anyone know where you can get New Mexico-style Hatch green chile in NYC? It's that time of year, and I'd rather not have to order them frozen and shipped in on dry ice.
