I am sad to see that Lucien's name hasn't popped up on this list yet. Me and a few friends sampled their winterlicious menu last night and we were all thoroughly impressed.
The food was great, and it was actually indicative of their standard menu which is a great way to drum up repeat business in my mind. We all had the Ontario red deer and it was beyond delicious. The wine was reasonably priced, the tasting menu was well thought out and everything was cooked absolutely perfectly.
Outside of the great food, Lucien really shines when it comes to service. Where I know a lot of restaurants have a bit of a chip on their shoulder when it comes to winterlicious, Lucien doesn't stray from their standard operating procedure. The owner was working the floor when we arrived and he was just great. I cannot recall his name at the moment, but he is a seriously good restaraunter. He came over to talk shop a few times during our meal (our table was made up of a couple of industry folk) and he even comped us a round of port once we had finished our meal. Class act.
There is a right way and a wrong way to do Winterlicious. If you want to experience the former, visit Lucien.
