Great grilled cheese in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill?

Ooh ooh! Buns in Chapel Hill. I had only ordered their burgers for the longest time, but their grilled cheese (adding bacon and tomato is a must) is tough to beat at the price.

The Pig--Chapel Hill

Hey Jim, Damon parted ways with the Barbecue Joint.
He's currently working with us at Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe in the Courtyard. He's indeed a great cook, and a lot of fun to work with.
On the topic of smoking pig, Damon smokes ours for us.

A shame indeed. Above is an article that shares our feeling.

Hounds help with the best brunch RTP

While I love a Vin Rouge dinner, I'd always take Acme brunch over a Vin Rouge brunch. I'd get the doughnuts or apple turnover to start with. Then the deluxe eggs benedict (ham and fried green tomatoes!) or the Texas border breakfast (green chile grits, poached eggs, steak, chipotle hollandaise). Great food, great staff.

Vegan-friendly restaurants in Chapel Hill, NC?

Vimala's definitely has an abundance of vegan options. No need to call.
And thanks for thinking of us!
My sister Manju has been vegan for most of her life, so my Mom has plenty of experience preparing vegan food.
On the dinner menu my favorites are the Vegan Thali (Rice, dal, veg curry, bhaji, chutney, salad in lieu of raita, vegan chappati, papadum) or the Vegan Samosa Chole Chaat (2 samosas over chickpea curry with some chopped veggies, chutneys, and chaat masala, no sweet yogurt). The kofta is also a favorite of many vegans. We use coconut milk instead of cream in the curry. Make sure to remind the cashier (probably me) that it's vegan, or there might be some raita served with it.

Vegan-friendly restaurants in Chapel Hill, NC?

Yes! I wanted to start a thread like this (in support of them) after I went the other night. I still need to. Queen of Sheba is one of my favorites. I wish she was still open for lunch. Her red lentils are amazing. I'm a meat lover, but I'd eat that every day. It's inexpensive too, the red lentil.

Triangle Tops?

I haven't been in the last couple weeks, but I've always really enjoyed it. I tend to get the same thing each time, meatloaf sandwich with garlic mayo and their roasted jalapenos, & it's always good. The garlic mayo completes it.
I'm used to it being counter service, like it always was in the courtyard. While I'm sometimes in the mood for full service, most of the time I'm more into an order at the counter or bar setup.
Maybe I'm biased, working at a counter service place, but as long as the food is quality stuff, I'm not concerned with the logistics of how it arrives to me.
Of course, that wasn't your only complaint..

Graeter's Ice Cream now available at Kroger stores in Raleigh

Ah. I read that as Columbus being the place for ice cream.
Clearly I just wanted some excuse to talk about Jeni's.

Your favorite local or regional peach ice cream??

Locopops Peaches and Cream. The first batch they made wasn't sweet enough, in my opinion, but since then it's been amazing.

Was her favorite Jeni's? I bet it was. I visited Columbus once this summer and tried it & I can't stop talking about it.

Triangle Tops?

I totally support Neal's biscuits. Simple and buttery. I want more breakfast options in town with trustworthy ingredients. I haven't checked their shopping lists out personally, but Neal's has my trust.
Try to get there before 10:30 to avoid biscuitless broken hearts.

Gourmet Kingdom (Authentic Chinese in Carrboro) -Follow-up

I'm not an expert on Chinese food and it sounds like you are. But I've been going back at least once a week for the kung pao lotus root and green onion fried tea-smoked duck.
I wouldn't recommend the dumplings either, and the sauce just tastes like vinegar and soy sauce. But the quality of those two entrees is so good every time I go there it will always keep me coming back. Just thinking about them is making me want to go get some right now.
I'm excited to try these fried fish slices you refer to.

New(?) Asian market in Carrboro?

I stopped by looking for some matcha powder. He'd never heard of it. Not points against them or anything, I guess they just don't have a Japanese focus. It seemed like a slim selection from my walk through the aisles, but I'd stop by again. Hope they do well.
I do miss the Rosemary street market.

fresh pork belly

I can't get enough of Cane Creek. When my sister visits from San Diego, we send her back on the plane with a suitcase packed with frozen CCpork.

Bangkok 54 (Chapel Hill)?

I hadn't heard of ghost chilis before and I just looked them up. http://hubpages.com/hub/Ghost_chili_i...

"Even a smallest bit of this pepper in the food or sauce will make it barely edible. If you eat a raw pepper it causes watering eyes and a runny nose.

An entire chili is an all-out assault on the senses, akin to swigging a cocktail of battery acid and glass shards."

Good god. That must be an exaggeration. Has anyone here tried one?
