If Price Isn't a consideration would you choose? Only have 2 night... Is it Crazy to go to 2 of the 3? Kyo Ya, Jungsik or Kin Shop
thanks sgordon...very helpful
Mas Farmhouse or ABC Kitchen. I have reservations for both on the same night. In terms of....
Food quality and creativity?
Ambience?
Wine selection?
Vibe?
Price point doesn't matter....Which should I keep?

We're young, hip (at least think we are :) ) early 40's from Toronto. Frequent NYC often.
Want a good vibe yet we like places with a bit of a romance factor. Love all styles of asian food.
We're there on a Monday & a Tuesday (Nov 7th & 8th-soon!!).....
Once I decide on one of the above I'll need help with my second night....oy!...have Boulud Sud booked but reconsidering it...not sure about the reviews & location. also considering Tocqueville, La Promenade Des Anglais (thanks rgr for adding to my dilemma), Ai Fiori, ABC Kitchen (although looks they have no availablitity until 10ish). Amazing food is of course the priority but as this is a little getaway/holiday I'm looking for a place with a good vibe too....again, price isn't really a consideration.
Is that enough info to help me? Please, pretty please.

Boulud Sud or Tocqueville?
thanks wilfrid...i'm definitely not looking for 'moderately like'....
definitely want 'wow'!...price isn't really an issue. neither is cuisine. we'll eat anything. leaning more towards 'buzzy & upbeat'...not so keen on the upper west side but happily will travel for food.
coming in from toronto but been to nyc countless times. staying in soho.
totally different but i'm booked at kin shop our first night. coming in beginning in november so a little limited re: reservations.
what about gotham?
another suggestion???
Boulud Sud or Tocqueville?
Who has the edge re: food, ambience, service, wine selection?
If you've been to both, which do prefer and why?

21st Birthday in Downtown Toronto; Need recommendations
supermarket in kensington market is fun. good food, well priced. younger crowd and they'll take a reservation for a larger crowd.
La Societe
food is average at best. i've had most of their seafood offerings. anything steamed and plain ie oysters, crab, shrimp were fine...hard to mess those up.
the rest of the things i've tried like the tuna tartar and salmon tartar along with the other things they offer on the seafood tower are fine. definitely not destination dining but it's a great room and a great patio in the summer.
definitely skip the desserts....absolute waste of calories.
i thought the service was great both times i was there.
Acadia -- who else has been?
funny childofthestorm, i think we had the same server last saturday night...he was a little odd but enthusiastic and effient....
i hate to recommend this place for completely selfish reasons- would love to keep it a hidden gem but clearly the well deserved hype that it's already receiving will undoubtably make resevations hard to come by.
had an amazing meal here...given the quality of the food and the thoughtful presentation, i think it's priced extremely well (esp. given my recent underwhelming, very expensive meal at splendido :(...sorry splendido fans).... i LOVED this place....can't wait till my next meal here!
Enoteca Sociale? George? Other suggestions for business dinner?
i would +1 origin and add blowfish to the list.
it'll be quiet on a monday but it has the 'funky' factor. they'll be able to hear themselves speak and the food is good.
i thought toca at the ritz was fantastic but perhaps a little to quiet and stiff.
Maialino or The Harrison? Apples Vs. Oranges...I know but....
Thanks RGR...i know we don't know each other but i do love you :)
You (and kathryn and rrem) are a few of my nyc food gurus who`s advice i always look to when i visit the city....i booked Maialino because of your reviews & pics (thanks!).

Maialino or The Harrison? Apples Vs. Oranges...I know but....
Trying to find the perfect combination of 'hip/fun atmosphere' on a Wednesday night.without comprimising fabulous food.
I currently have a reservation at Maialino but the Harrison has availablity (according to open table) for this coming Wednesday.
Coming from Toronto for one night....My partner and I have been to the city many, many times (first time together)....We are in our (very!) early 40's but want a place with a cool buzz and incredible food.....Most recently I've enjoyed/loved Perilla, Telepan, Degustation, SHO, Otto....
Totally open to any other suggestions (where I at least have a remote chance of getting a booking so late in the game)....Price range would be Maialine/Harrison range (or less expensive always welcome of course)....
Was also considering Public, Kitichai, Gotham.....

Uncle Betty's?
i so so so wanted to like this place as it's right across the street from where i live.
it was disappointing on many levels. it began with the inexperience (i'm trying not to use the word incompetence) of our sever.
as a non-meat eater who has never had a problem eating at steakhouses, i had a problem chosing something to eat off the menu.
i was moderately hopeful when i saw salmon 'hotdogs' on the menu. i asked our waitress what kind of salmon they were made of (won't eat atlantic salmon) but they were out.
i settle on the 'blt' salad without the bacon. i asked for the dressing and aioli on the side.
it was a meager/patheic salad. the arugula leaves were mixed with romaine leaves, my dressingless salad came with dressing and the avocado were hard as rocks (i informed the waitress and my response was 'oh, really?' and that was it).
my friend and decided to share a (famous) donut and their version of a 'twinkie'...they had no twinkies.
settled on 2 donuts that clearly had been sitting around for a while...dry, brutal texture, gummy and flavourles...they shouldn't be selling these unless they are right out of the fryer.
i suggested to the waitress that they provide more vegetarian/less meat options on the menu and i was basically met with a blank stare.
i will give this place one more chance because i so want it to be even 'half decent'...i'll cross my fingers for better luck next time.
Dad's 60th Birthday Dinner
have you been to globe earth?
sounds like it could be what you're looking for.
i would avoid north 44....

Yonge and Eglinton restaurant for date
Definitely Tabule....cute atmosphere, dishes for sharing, very reasonably priced and you can make reservations.
What's good on College west these days?
I have a friend who wants to eat on College this evening. I've enjoyed Sidecar. Cinq 01 was ok.
Is L.A.B. still worth checking out? What about Grace?
Salad Bars in Toronto
For salad bars I go to Kale on Yonge (north of Eglinton). It's vegan, organic & macrobiotic and I also go to Wholefoods.
Good place for catfish
not in the west end but my first thought was harlem. overall an excellent experience...their cajun catifsh is deilish (and spicy!)
Hot Spot Lounge/Dinner Spot - Atmosphere is key!
i would say bohmer on ossington is what you're looking for.
not on ossington, but i would include pravda in your list.
drinks near zucca
the keg on the south east side of yonge and eglinton (on yonge) has a nice bar...again, don't make the mistake of eating there but the drinks are good & the bar area is lovely.
Telepan or Ouest
i have not been to ouest but i can tell you i was at telepan several years ago and it still sticks in my mind as fabulous. four of ate there and we still discuss the fantastic meal we had there....you won't be dissappointed.
SFF (Single Female Foodie) Seeks Some Ideas for Solo Toronto Weekend
i think you mean L.A.B. i haven't been but after reading all the great chowhound reviews, it's on the top of my list.
you might want to consider senior antonio tapas & wine bar (chiado's sister restaurant) on college....toronto does portuguese better than nyc. great place to have some snacks and some great wines by the glass.
i think i would cross splendido off the list. although, it's a great restaurant, it doesn't do anything 'better' or 'different' than you can find all over nyc.
origin may be a better addition- the kitchen side dining makes for a great experience. also small plates, so you'll be able to try several things.
i'd also add some dim sum to your list....(i was so sad to hear dim sum go go is gone in nyc) you can get a good fix here.
anniversary dinner that must include oysters (everything else negotiable)
another vote for starfish...we've had many a celebratory dinner there.
rodney's by bay is o.k. but the atmosphere doesn't scream 'anniversary' to me.
origin is fantastic but their oyster dish includes 3 oysters...i'd need about 7 of them...
SHO Shaun Hergatt getting better
We had an OUTSTANDING meal there 2 weeks ago. The food, space, & service were all beautiful. We had the 3 course menu which really was more like 7 courses with the multiple amuses the extra birthday dessert (so lovely, just wish we weren't so damn full- and we are BIG eaters)...the bread & butter could be a course on it's own. I wanted to eat that truffle butter with my spoon.
My only complaints would be our initial impression. When we arrived on a Saturday night to an empty lounge & 1/2 empty dining room were asked to wait in the lounge for at least 20 minutes to "wait" for our table. Once we were eventually taken to the dining room (the only explanation I can think for this would be trying to get us to buy an extra cocktail that we perhaps wouldn't have ordered otherwise- in very bad taste), they tried to seat us in the middle of the bench seating between 2 other tables when there was 2 deuces free standing closer to the kitchen. They did move us upon request.
My initial feelings of discomfort and 'oh oh, this is really not a good start' were beyond surpassed with bliss, awe and lingering feelings of please, please, please when can we go back (sadly, we live in Toronto).
I wholeheartedly & enthusiastically recommend SHO.
Avenue & Lawrence update.
she made several attempts to check out the menu ahead of time....
Sushi making classes in Toronto?
jimmy from the sushi bar on yonge north of lawrence will do sushi making classes.
very fun!

Birthday dinner for two in Toronto?
does that $15-$20 include tax and tip?
if you're willing to try something other than italian, a wonderful middle eastern restaurant that has a nicer atmosphere than most middle eastern restaurants is tabule on yonge near summerhill.
kalendar on college street also has a romantic quirky atmosphere...
Looking for Cool Amazing Place to eat. $$ No Object
as fantastic as degustation is, i wouldn't categorize it as cool hip or lively.
we're going to SD26 at the end of the month so i can't comment on the food yet but i hear it's definitely cool, hip & lively.
congrats on the business deal!
