Cherry-Vanilla Bitters

5 min??? Really? I guess if you don't count the straining time. For those of us who want our bitters to be a clear as possible(without spending a fortune on equipment), we know that when you use a coffee filter it takes hours not minutes.

Pan Dolce

I wonder how many you tested(if any)? Or if you just ripped off cooks illustrated. Or a third option, that you are just shilling for Calphalon.

Sochu, who has a good selection?

Where I live in Brooklyn I can only find one kind at my local liquor store. I am looking for somewhere that has a good selection to browse, and if they did tastings that would be even better(but I wont hold my breath). In particular I am looking for a sochu distilled from sesame, I had one last week at Bozu in Williamsburg and was blown away. Any leads are greatly appreciated.

Japanese in Williamsburg

No good sushi in the burg? can you honestly say you have tried it all? For people who may be a bit easier to please I would recommend Samurai on N. 6th & Bedford. And my personal favorite, Bozu, everything I have eaten there has been very tasty.

Greenpoint. Please.

I have heard real estate agents call a lot of places East Williamsburg, but not that area. That is straight up Williamsburg, and one of the nicer parts of it as well.
As far as responding to the original reply.
Paloma for sure, every time I go there I am more than satisfied, although don't sit in the front area on a weekend night, those tables are waited on by the bartender who also has to worry about drinks for the rest of the place, service was slow, but management should have know better, a bartender should be behind the bar at all times on a busy Friday night.
And my second recommendation is Steve's Meat market on Nassau Ave, although they have a large selection of other pork products, the only thing I ever get there is the Kielbasa, he has like 6 different kinds and they are all amazing. I will NEVER buy hillshire farms again!!

Late Dining In Williamsburg

SEA- I only take people there who are in from out of town and don't know good Thai food. It is very much a scene, and even though they serve late, at around 10pm the front half of the place is more like a club then resturant. It's so loud that it can be hard to hear others at your table. Dumont has excellent burgers as well. But yoy have found one of the problems with dining in williamsburg. No one serves good food very late.

Moving to Greenpoint. Recs???

I've been there twice for shirmp, and if "just pop your head in to see what's what" you will be floored by the fish stench. Now I know that fish markets teld to be on the smelly side, but after the last time is was so bad that I dont go there anymore. If they cant keep the area that customers see clean, what about the areas you can't see. But that is my personal opinion. I encourage everyone to check it out and form their own.

Best Butchers? (Williamsburg, or E. Village)

As far as the burg goes, I live off the Graham ave and there are three butcher shops near by. Model T's which i used to frequent, but their pork tenderloins(which I use a lot) comes prepackaged and the owner is a jerk, if I am spending money in your shop you should treat me with at least a little respect. But I digress, down the street is Jerry's pork store which I whole heartily think is the best in the nab, and across the street from Jerry's is Graham ave meats which is OK, but some of the prices are very high. If you want pork Jerry's is great, and to top it off, Jerry is very nice and will do his best to accomidate your needs. He also sells many italian imported products.

The best steak frites in the city?

Les Halles, was there yesterday and really enjoyed it. The steak au pouive(i think that is how its spelled) was my entree and it was excellent. For an app I have a calmari & shaved fennel salad, delicious!!

Samurai in Williamsburg

Samurai has been there for a while, friends of mine in the area swear by the place and will only get their sushi from there. My first time eating sushi was at Samurai and it was excellent

Pasilla Chiles AKA Chiles Negro

Does anyone one know a specific market/store/deli when I could find dried Pasilla Chiles, they are commonly refered to as Chiles Negro when dried. I tried Penzy's cause I know they have a lot, but with not luck and I don't feel like hitting every latin american market in NYC. Thanks for your help!!
