Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

Olive Garden is trying to figure out how to improve their menu. The report suggested that they add veal dishes, but management at Olive Garden did not know what kind of vegetable veal is. They are also trying to find a source for real mah-za-rella cheese.

Good restaurant for large group in Kingston, NY

We love Hillside Manor. Great food. There are a few rooms there and they do catering.

Lunch spot on North Fork this coming Friday

You do not have to go far from the ferry at Orient Point. Next door, west, is a fishing dock with an excellent fresh seafood restaurant. It is called "Orient by the Sea". Prices are fine and portions are good. I suggest the chowder and the mahi sandwich. The last thing I heard by someone who went to Noah's is that they had to stop someplace else afterwards, because they were still hungry. When we are in Greenport, we drive the 10 miles east to Orient by the Sea. There is some nice outdoor seating also with a great view of Shelter Island, Gardiner's Island and the Ruins.

Does The Finger Lakes area have ANY good restaurants?

We were at Parkers pub in Geneva at the top of Seneca Lake. It was a good place for lunch. There are a few Parkers at other places in the Finger Lakes. We saw one in Seneca Falls.

Having breakfast on Long Island

I went to the Cook Room for lunch and was disappointed at their hamburgers. The meat was OLD and past its' prime.

East End ...local whitefish?

The names of fish are sometimes changed for marketing reasons. I once had a fish called Bassa which the man in the fish store called freshwater flounder. The second bite of it tasted like green pond scum. When I looked up Bassa on Google, it turned out to be Mekong Delta Catfish.

Strawberries are here, North Fork LI

Joes Garage has excellent food. The problem is that it can get very LOUD in the evenings. Singles bar music for an older crowd. Even eating outside, the noise level is very high. Their pulled pork is tasty and moist. They could use an improvement in their barbecue sauce.

Driving from Toronto to NYC through Finger Lakes (Trumansburg/Seneca Lake)

I like "Antlers" in Ithaca.

New to Albany-want recommendations

Try Pepper Jack's on North Allen Street in Albany. Great food, soups and wraps.

Soup Dumplings on Long Island

I have had the dumpling soup at Jani's in Hicksville (Nassau County).

It was a few years ago and it was excellent, reminiscent of Joe's Shanghai or is it Shanghai Joe's?

Greek Food in Suffolk County?

Acropolis is excellent. Good food, ambiance, service and prices.

Joe's Garage & Grill in Riverhead

Ate lunch at Joe's today and had the best pulled pork sandwich that I have ever had. Really moist and juicy. Washed it down with a pint of excellent Porter.

Cliff's Elbow Room........... Jamesport

I like the Roumanian tenderloin at J&R's. Unlike some of their other steaks, you do not need really intense knife work to separate the meat from the nasty stuff.

Joe's Garage & Grill in Riverhead

Coll;
Thanks for the fine report. Spring is happening and boating season is around the corner. Will have to try Joe's out. Looking forward to it.

ginger empire chinese, smithtown, new york

Ate at Empire-St James in Smithtown, formerly ESG. Not sure if this is the same restaurant. Food is good. Menu is extensive with exotic Chinese, Thai and Sushi. Clientele on a Saturday night is mostly Asian. A definite plus for Suffolk County Chinese restaurants. Good dim sum. Definitely worth a try.

Oh no! Comtesse Therese Bistro is changing hands.... [North Fork, L.I.]

Keep me in mind for a SC Chowhound get together. Once boating season begins.

Thanks for the info.

Greek place on Long Island near Melville/Huntington Station

Skorpio's is OK.

I like the Mediterranean Snack Bar

Good Burger at a Sit Down on LI?

I like Major's in East Meadow and Woodbury for burgers. The home fries go really well with their burgers.

Joe's Garage & Grill in Riverhead

What ever happened to Joe's Garage and Grill restaurant on Peconic Avenue and Main Street in Riverhead?

It was supposed to open last summer. The menu was interesting and the location was convenient.

Levittown Area devoid of any decent dining options.

I like the Fortune Wheel. One of two really 'authentic' Chinese restaurants on LI.

Also, nearby in East Meadow is Major's. A really nice steakhouse that you do not have to leave a week's salary to pay the check.

Duck on Long Island?

My favorite place for duck is the Meetinghouse Creek Inn in Aquebogue. The duck comes from Crescent Farms in Aquebogue, about 1/4 mile away and is really fresh. To make good duck, you have to start with fresh product.

Quiet(er) restaurant in Albany with not-too-adventurous food?

I like Jack's Oyster House. Good food at reasonable prices. I especially like their oysters and their prime rib.

Lunch off of Rt 90 Albany area

I like Pepper Jacks in Albany. They have great homemade soups and salads. You can also get a delicious cheese steak there.

ALbany, New York restaurant week

I like Jack's. Nothing like a plate of fresh oysters for an appetizer followed with a slice of their prime rib, rare.

Best German restaurant on LI

Zum Stammtisch is excellent, but it is in Queens. Parking is not easy and it is a small place and not easy to get seated. Their food is probably the best around.

~Fred19

Fairway coming to Lake Grove in 2014

If you want huge, try Wegmans (not on LI).

They are HUGE, like six Waldbaum stores area in one of them. It makes Fairway or Whole Foods look like a neighborhood bodega.

~Fred19

Best German restaurant on LI

I do not know the best, but I like Pumpernickels in Northport.

There are not too many nowadays. We used to like the Pinegrove Inn in Patchogue, but I am not sure that they are open or serving German food. I believe there may be one in Southampton and one in Montauk and of cause the Bavarian Inn, which was just torn down.
