I do not have any browser extensions and very few add-ons, just symantec and skype. I am finding that Chowhounds site is very slow to respond. I am in Florida now. In NY it is fine. All the other websites that I connect to do it fast and crisply.

Win 8.1 plus Firefox. I am still seeing it. It really takes a long time to load pages. All other pages from other websites load quickly. It is just at Chowhound that I get that message about loading typekit. I do not think it is worth using on your site, just to get some fancy fonts.

Is anyone out there getting very slow loads of Chow that say it is loading use.typekit.net and takes about 2-3 minutes? This posting is for the people at Chowhound. Please remove once addressed.

Thanks for the update.

At 1.5 stars it does not sound cost effective at all. I will travel the extra miles and do Major's in East Meadow.

Long Island Good Eats 2014 in Review

Is that the former "Mah Johng" location?

Legal Seafood exits LI

I think that it was the same ownership as Nisen 110, which just closed. It may not have anything to do with the 'Legal' chain. The remaining Nisen 347 restaurant in St James has a totally un-readible sign, just like the previous two restaurants at that location. They last about a year each.

Special Occasion Recommendation - Nassau County/Western Suffolk

You should of addressed this issue with the restaurant manager. Sometimes there are just bad waiters, or over-worked waiters. There is no excuse for not getting your water, even in an inexpensive restaurant or pizzeria. In a more expensive restaurant, that deserves a "Pretentious" rating if they have high prices and crappy service. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Graduation dinner for Syracuse University

We did my daughters graduation from SU at the Arad Evans Inn in Fayetteville. Good food and service. A stately restaurant. One suggestion, book early.

Partos Pizza in Riverhead gets bought out by Uncle Joes

I am looking forward to the new menu, and possibly a new chef.

It has been a while since I went to Carlo's, but I will now keep it in mind.

Partos Pizza in Riverhead gets bought out by Uncle Joes

I ate at the "new" Partos last week. It is the same staff and the same food. Nothing has changed.

I was hoping for a new taste in the food.

Pressed Duck in Westchester?

On one of the Anthony Bourdain shows he traveled through Paris and stopped at a chef supply shop called Dehilleran's and purchased a duck press. I had been there 2 years ago. We thought that it was a terrific store. I really enjoyed seeing it on television. A duck press would be great to have, but it takes up a lot of space and you would only use it once a year.

Partos Pizza in Riverhead gets bought out by Uncle Joes

I checked "Two Brothers" website. They just put together a pizza, they do not cook it. You are supposed to take home a raw pizza and cook it yourself. Why bother?

Partos Pizza in Riverhead gets bought out by Uncle Joes

Does anyone know anything about "Two Brothers" at 49 East Main Street, Riverhead? Looks like a new pizza place coming in. They have a sign with the name of the business in the window, but they fail to mention what they do. Seems pretty stupid.

Long Island: Went to Chowder Bar and White Cap, any other places to try along Montauk Highway between Babylon and Patchogue?

In Patchogue I like Bobique for barbecue, the Brickhouse Brewery for pub grub and Gallo Restaurant for excellent chicken, Colombian style. I also like to taste beer at the Bluepoint Brewing Company.

Turkuaz in Riverhead

I was there last week and it was very hot and damp inside. I was told that the air conditioner was broken. They stopped making the delicious Turkish bread because the do not have their oven any more. The food is still good, but they seem to have other issues. Maybe someone's misplaced idea about cost control.

Partos Pizza in Riverhead gets bought out by Uncle Joes

Glad to hear the news. I never cared for the food at Parto's. Many of the items that I ate there seemed to have a sour taste. In the hot summer, the air conditioning was poor. I hope Uncle Joes is an improvement.

I also noticed that there is a place called Two Brothers under construction which I think may be a pizzeria. They do not say on the building under construction what it is. When Julia's changed to a Taqueria, there became a pizza vacuum in town. The pizza place next to the Blue Duck bakery closed and I did not feel bad, because one day I went in for a slice and they told me they did not sell slices. This was a poor business model for a pizza place. Not being able to get a slice allowed me to predict their future downfall.

Syracuse

My favorites are Danzer's, Coleman's, The Great Wall, Scotch and Sirloin, Saratoga Steaks, Delmonico's, The Egg Plant, Kitty Hoynes and Dinosaur. Many of these places have been around for a long time and there are many people who feel that they have slid downhill. I still like them.

Woodstock,NY where to eat?

I also like Joshua's Cafe. Great soups and salads. We have been going there for almost 50 years.

Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

Olive Garden is trying to figure out how to improve their menu. The report suggested that they add veal dishes, but management at Olive Garden did not know what kind of vegetable veal is. They are also trying to find a source for real mah-za-rella cheese.

Lunch spot on North Fork this coming Friday

You do not have to go far from the ferry at Orient Point. Next door, west, is a fishing dock with an excellent fresh seafood restaurant. It is called "Orient by the Sea". Prices are fine and portions are good. I suggest the chowder and the mahi sandwich. The last thing I heard by someone who went to Noah's is that they had to stop someplace else afterwards, because they were still hungry. When we are in Greenport, we drive the 10 miles east to Orient by the Sea. There is some nice outdoor seating also with a great view of Shelter Island, Gardiner's Island and the Ruins.

Does The Finger Lakes area have ANY good restaurants?

We were at Parkers pub in Geneva at the top of Seneca Lake. It was a good place for lunch. There are a few Parkers at other places in the Finger Lakes. We saw one in Seneca Falls.

Having breakfast on Long Island

I went to the Cook Room for lunch and was disappointed at their hamburgers. The meat was OLD and past its' prime.

East End ...local whitefish?

The names of fish are sometimes changed for marketing reasons. I once had a fish called Bassa which the man in the fish store called freshwater flounder. The second bite of it tasted like green pond scum. When I looked up Bassa on Google, it turned out to be Mekong Delta Catfish.

Strawberries are here, North Fork LI

Joes Garage has excellent food. The problem is that it can get very LOUD in the evenings. Singles bar music for an older crowd. Even eating outside, the noise level is very high. Their pulled pork is tasty and moist. They could use an improvement in their barbecue sauce.
