Good eats near Hunter, NY/Hunter Mountain or lunch along the way?
Try the Hickory Barbecue and Smokehouse restaurant. It is five minutes west of the Thruway at Exit 19, Kingston. Good ribs and excellent smoked turkey legs. Prices are reasonable. It is a great stop for lunch or dinner.

Near Fairmont Hotel, Washington, DC
I am looking for recs for a restaurant that a short walk from the Fairmont hotel for a nice sit-down dinner on a Friday night at the end of June, 2012.
Also would like some suggestions for lunch and dinner near the hotel.
Thank you,

Stonewalls in Riverhead, it truly IS a "hidden gem"
We have been going to Stonewells for years and have always liked it for good food and good service.

Syracuse?
Scotch & Sirloin is there and I still like it. They have an extensive selection of single malts at the bar. The prime rib and salad bar are still excellent. I prefer the atmosphere there to Saratoga Steaks which has great steaks, but is more crowded and gets smokey when the fire pit is running.
I forgot to mention two breakfast places, Haller's in Fayettville and the EggPlant. The EggPlant has fantastic home fries and is a great place for a delicious, reasonably priced breakfast and is a good alternative to Denny's.
Long Island/Queens diners?
I like the Hidden Pond Diner in Hauppauge (Route 111 and Route 347, SE corner). It is much better than the Paradise Diner on Route 454. Good food and good service. Excellent management at the Hidden Pond.

Family Friendly Restaurants near Callicoon, NY (Catskills)

Surprise 60th Birthday Luncheon on Long Island

Wedding venue ideas
Check out Hillside Manor in Kingston, NY. About an hour south of Albany, about a half hour from Route 84 that will take you to Danbury. Excellent caterers. Their restaurant is good also.

Hamptons Clambake Caterer?
You could check out Corr J's or Brewsters in Hampton Bays.

Syracuse, with young people
Try Delmonico's. OK steaks. Good atmosphere. Reasonable prices.

Yao's wows in Centereach
I went to Yao's for lunch today. The food was good and definitely did not taste like your neighborhood takeout joint. The place was empty at 1PM. It is nice looking inside, but lacks the warmth of a restaurant where they speak your language, or even try to be friendly. The hot and 'sore' soup was different than your average hot and sour, with more vinegar in it.
I was served my main course before my soup, but this may be a Chinese thing.

Lunch spot between JFK and Kingston
In Kingston, about a mile west on Rt 28 from the traffic circle is the Hickory Barbecue and Smokehouse. It can be a 2 hour ride from JFK, so you will really be hungry.

If you want something sooner, there is a Ben's Deli in Bay Terrace, right near the Queens side of the Throggs Neck Bridge. Ben's is the old Kosher type deli with excellent pastrami, corned beef, etc. Unfortunately, I cannot think of too much in between.

Five Guys Burger and Fries coming to Cortlandt Manor
Get set for some hockey pucks with good french fries. Burgers are only available very well done and greasy. They give it to you with an over-stuffed bag of really good french fries.
Let me know what you think after they open.

Lobster Roll in Riverhead closing after this season
Thank goodness it is those two restaurants closing. I never liked either of them.

Best food options off of i-87 between NY and Montreal
In Kingston, I like Armadillo's, the Hickory Smokehouse and the Hoffman House. There are also a few diners in town that are good for upstate, since diners are rare.

restaurants in/around Melville, LI?
If you like Chinese buffet's, there is a nice one just south of Jericho Tpk on Rt 110 called Best Buffet, or it least that was what it was after they changed names from East Buffet..
There is a Hooters off of Rt 110, south of Rt 495. There is a good German restaurant called Black Forest Brew House (or Brew Haus) on Smith Street. Expensive, but very good is Frederick's. Cirella's is good for Italian food. Big portions, good food and reasonable prices. The Sweet Hollow Diner is OK.

Good Restaurant in Cohoes area?
I like Red's in Cohoes for good fried seafood. I have not been there for a few years, so you have to check if it is still in business.

Montauk in November
O'Murphy's is very good.
Last time that we were there on a Tuesday, it was two for one night. It was a while ago. They do a nice Guiness.

Ithaca restaurants
We ate at the boathouse a few months ago. OK seafood, good view in the summer. Good drinks.

Hy Ting -Riverhedad, NY - Classic Chinese American Chow
Coll;
I did not mention the service, because it was totally amateurish but well meaning. Luckily, no one found any hair.
The place that you talk about in Commack went with the current fashion of becoming a buffet with tasteless food. My daughter went to high school with the owner's daughter, so I will not say anything else.
I went to Best Buffet opposite Walt Whitman (formerly East Buffet). Food tasted good, but almost all of the buffet items were not heated properly and were quite cold. Much of the clientele was Chinese.
My next trip is back to the Orient in Bethpage.
As much as I like the sleazy places in Chinatown, it is nice to go back to the 50's, occasionally.

Hy Ting -Riverhedad, NY - Classic Chinese American Chow
Ate at Hy Ting in Riverhead with a party of six. Very classic Chinese-American food, like Kwong Ming in Wantagh and if any of you remember the old Gam Wah (cats in the freezer) in Westbury.
We ordered a family dinner for six and we had many of our childhood favorites, chicken chow main, spare ribs, roast pork fried rice, pepper steak, wor shu opp, shrimp and lobster sauce and egg rolls. We all loved it. The food was tasty and portion size was good. It was like the good old days.
Of course, every time that I go to Chinatown to eat, I realize that there is nothing like the food there back home in Suffolk County.

North Fork - Touch of Venice or Porto Bello
I like Touch of Venice. We have not been there since they moved to the new location in Cutchogue, the former site of "Fisherman's Rest" on Main Road.

Anything new in Riverhead? Calling Coll :)
Roadhouse is good eats at a good price.
They also have red pepper, if you ask for it.

Anything new in Riverhead? Calling Coll :)
Almost everyone has told me that the Riverhead Project is pretentious and overpriced with poor service. We have enough of those types of restaurants springing up on the North Fork.
