Joe's Pork Store - The Best There Is I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to let all of the faithful Joes customers know that they have closed. I went today and the store is empty and for rent. Joe & Pauly will be missed. The last time I spoke to Pauly he was complaining about his health I hope he is OK. If anybody from the family sees this I would like to send my best to all and you will be missed in Astoria. Ciao- ----- |

Smorgasburg: What a Pretentious Rip Off..... I love the concept of good food vendors getting together in a common place. I did not get a really pretentious feeling at least not more than the new Brooklynites in the rest of the area. The food I had was very good of course it cost a little meore that fast food. I had a Dumont Burger for 5 bucks at Mc Dees. a big mac cost 4.50. Need I say more.. The major problem I had is that the ad's say over 100 vendors...not so much. I hope that this is the beginning of a great thing and I hope it keeps improving and demand will drive the price and selection. Ciao- |

more Brooklyn Fairway disappointment I have been a Fairway shopper for at least 20 years at all locations. I agree with some things said here. fairway has changed over the years and especially since they have grown. However with that being said it is still a superior market in both selection and price.. When it comes to produce all markets that have such a selection as Fairway we as the consumer have to choose what is fresh. Any market can have bad produce from time to time. But for my money Fairway is still the best market for the mony in NYC. I cannot afford to shop at Whole Paycheck and I really do not get the hype of Trader Joes.. So if you have not been to Fairway check it out.. BTW my favorite store is still the Harlem store but I usually shop at Red Hook. Ciao |

Sorry but Costco is nothing but an insult to decent pizza anywhere not just NY. I have been to LA many times I do not think you can anything even resembling NY "street Pizza" anywhere on the west coast. With that being said you can get Brick oven Pizza in LA. I have been to Pizzaria Mozza & Pitfire Pizzaria. Mozza was better but does come with a price. But anybody thinking Costco pizza is even edible I feel for you. Ciao- (Brooklyn Pizza Snob) |

Thanks for the support Eat. Once again I was there last week and to no avail... I still keep hope that someone with an understanding of FRESH seafood would invest some money on the island.. It does not have to be high brow just good FRESH seafood... I will not mention any names I do not want to burn any places... The staff needs to make a living.. Ciao- |

I hve been to CI many times and as a life long NY ER I for one would love if there was good food there. I think I have been to every joint there and they all sucked. The place is so unique and special there needs to be at least one great seafood place there. Hey I have an open mind if I am wrong correct me I will try again. However remember I have been trying for over 20 years... Ciao- |

Randazzo's clam bar on emmons ave sheepshead bay I was raised on Randazzos back in the day it was very good and the place to eat FRESH seafood in Bklyn. However I recently returned about 3 months ago and I still have agada!! The famous sauce has a lot to be desired it tasted burnt or very old. The calamari was greasy the raw clams had an odor... IMHO I would not return.. If you want calamari in Bklyn. Go to Roccos on Ft. Hamilton Pkwy.. Sorry Pauly.. Ciao- ----- |

waldbaums supermarkets on Long Island I completly agree Waldbaums is barely a shell of what it once was. Todays supermarkets do not have any individual personality. I have not shopped at Waldbaums since A&P took over. In it;s day it was one of the best I hope someone from the Waldbaums extended family sees this post. Ciao- |

You could usually park within a few blocks. IMO the parking is not the problem it is the wait... I miss the old days when it was just a local pizza joint.. And BTW it is not really a Sephardi area it is more Hasidic/Conservative Jewish area. The Sephardis are more like Kings Hwy/Ave R area. Ciao- |

Hungry teens/cheapskate husband. Can this vacation be saved? I have not been there but I have never been to any type of chain that was worth going back to by choice. I also agree in NY there is no reason to eat at a chain... Cia0- |

an old standby is baking them in a covered baking pan. I will give it a shot I cook by my senses.. I use a cast iron dutch oven. I put a little stock in the bottom sit the chokes in make a stuffing like for mushrooms. Onions, garlic, bread crumbs, grated cheese, salt pepper fresh parsley, if you like some other herbs, spices feel free to adjust. pour a little olive oil on the choke and open up the choke and force the stuffing mixture between the leaves and cover and bake for 1 hr at 375 covered check at 1 hr. if you can remove a leave easily they are done. If not put back in and check every 10 mins... Ciao- |

Hungry teens/cheapskate husband. Can this vacation be saved? You will have no trouble eating within budget in NYC. If you want the best Kosher Deli in the country go to Katzs Deli if the boys love meat thisis the place!!! Also another good pizza pasta place is Three Of Cups on first Ave. very reasonable and great pizza. I have been to LA many times and unless you go to Mozza you have not had good pizza. Ciao- ----- Three of Cups |

The best pizza in Brooklyn.....that no one knows about. I agree I like many types of Pizza.. L&B is in a class by it self. Not meaning it is the best but name another that you can compare to L&B Square??? Maybe Rosa'a in Maspeth. I love all mentioned above and God Bless Dom Demarco I hope he lives another 100 years.. I love him and his family as well as the Pizza.. But there are enough "New Yorkers" from Idaho to wait an hour for a $5 dollar slice he does not need my 5 bucks... Someone said before DiFaras was just a regular Pizza Joint not that long ago... I remember it.. Ciao- ----- |
