Food shopping suggestions across the Niagara Falls border? (moved from Ontario board)

I also pick up Sahlen's hot dogs whenever in western NY. It is my favorite brand.

BEst Meatballs (Italian) Needham, Newton, W. Rox, etc

The meatballs are pretty good at Russo's in Watertown, (but at the edge of Newton) either in their sub or on pasta, preferably your own.

Local Asparagus

Volante Farms does have it this year and it is great, so if you live closer to Needham than to Concord or Lexington, I would go there for your local asparagus fix.

Starbucks Iced Tea

I have moved on :-) but I no longer go to Starbucks for iced tea, and to be honest it tastes no better or worse than Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's. I now brew my own with Tazo tea.

Sunday Lunch in Watertown

So, where did you go? :-)

So what are you making for Shavout?

I am thinking blintzes too. We're having a crowd, but I have to think of what else to make, probably tuna Israeli couscous vegetable salad and something green and leafy. I am not sure about dessert. I think that cheese cake is a little much with blintzes as a main dish.

Sunday Lunch in Watertown

I must admit that I haven't been to the Aegean in about 6 months and it isn't my favorite place in Watertown, but if I was taking my 89 year old mother for lunch on a Sunday in Watertown, I think that this would be the place to take her. One just has to order carefully, nothing too complicated. It is relatively quiet restaurant for conversation, no matter how crowded and you won't have to wait unlike at the Diner or vegan restaurant. Good luck! This is not a slam dunk decision.

Sunday Lunch in Watertown

They don't serve lunch on the weekends.

Local Asparagus

I have only seen asparagus at Verrill Farms, but I don't know whether it is available yet this year. Volante Farms has planted it but it will be a year/few years until they are ready to eat.

I have seen NJ asparagus at Whole Foods.

Sunday Lunch in Watertown

I think the Aegean is the best bet. It is relatively quiet and she can have a big Sunday meal if she likes and you can have a big Greek salad if you don't want a big meal. There are many older adults there.

Sunday Lunch in Watertown

I am having a difficult time thinking of such a place in the Watertown area. How about a drive to the Wayside Inn in Sudbury?

Searching for breast of veal

If you are willing to go Wellesley, call John Dewar.

potato kugel egg split

My DH's grandmother and mother used to separate the eggs and fold in beaten egg whites in to their potato kugel, noodle kugel, and even potato pancakes. Guests thought that this was the secret to their delicious kugels. As you have guessed, it lightens the finished product.

Passover birthday cake. Not chocolate flour less

My son and I both have birthdays that often fall on Pesach. Our cake of choice has always been the Queen Mother's cake. Some years we have made a sponge cake roll and filled it with an apricot filling that is the same one I make for hamentashen. One year my husband made me a ginger pecan torte with grated fresh ginger, and we made homemade ginger ice cream. (We have a Pesach ice cream maker.) Your choices are only bound by how much you like to bake and how much time you want to spend on the project. If your kids are young, they may be happy with one of the cake mixes. The choices increase every year.

ISO passover seder main courses

I would suggest a poached salmon as it is very forgiving. You can serve it with a traditional cucumber sauce and have a dairy seder.

Left over hamentashen stuffing - what to do?

I have been mixing my leftover apricot filling with cottage cheese and using it for PB sandwiches.

Looking for Best Destination Restaurants in VT, NH, ME

I thought of that one too. I have had a few memorable meals there over the years.

I think that Portland is a destination for foodies in general. We often stop there on our way up the ME coast just for a meal, and I would drive several hours for dinner or lunch at several places already mentioned in Portland.

Lunch off route128?

Kouzina ia a great non-chain choice for a Saturday lunch. Get off at Route 16 Newton, turn right at Beacon St and it is in Waban Center, about 2 minutes off 128 without too much traffic.

New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra suggestions

We are now back from India and ended up eating most meals at the hotels. By and large they were very good, and we enjoyed different dishes that we will try to replicate at home. Usually when we travel we enjoy trying different restaurants, but the hotel food and meals at some people's homes were surprisingly tasty. Best yet, we didn't have stomach ailments.

Hamantaschen in Boston/Metrowest?

I wonder whether Hounds haven't responded because they don't think that there are good store/bakery Hamantaschen in Boston.

I don't think there are good bakery Hamantaschen of the soft pastry or dry cookie type in Boston. I don't even like Clear Flour Bakery's version. I just make my own.

Rox Diner in Newtonville....anyone?

I drove by yesterday and the sign says they are serving dinner. I have not yet eaten there for any meal.

Travel anywhere in the world to eat...where to go?

I vote for Vietnam. I had some of the most consistantly excellent meals there. The food is much better than you can get in most places in the U.S.

I also vote for San Francisco, NYC and Vancouver.

I found that Italy can be more inconsistent than I expected, though I had some great meals there.

Germany was better than I expected.

Need FANCY Kosher Restaurant in Boston/Cambridge Area

I would call Catering by Andrew in Brookline. Andrew can make his food high end and he is very creative. He will help you find a venue where your guests can eat and he can cook. He has helped me out several times and his food is so good, people will ask whether it is kosher.

New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra suggestions

I really appreciate the suggestions and I wish and hope that I will be able to try some of them. We'll see how it goes.

New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra suggestions

I think that this is excellent advice that I will take. Thanks.

New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra suggestions

We are going to India for a few weeks and many of the meals are already covered. However, we are looking for a good restaurant near the Taj Palace Hotel for one night and near the Crown Palace Gurgaon Hotel another night in New Delhi. We are also looking for a restaurant for dinner near the Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur and near the Taj Gateway in Agra.

Since we have never been to India before, all suggestions are welcome. If any of the restaurants in the hotels are particularly good, we would consider eating there. Though I am a foodie, I know from experience that I have a sensitive stomach and will need to be careful to eat only cooked food. Therefore, I will be looking longingly at street food, but I will need to pass it up.

Favorite Mollie Katzen recipes?

My family still prefers her lasagne recipe from the original Moosewood. Other recipes that we like: Cauliflower Pie with Grated Potato Crust and the Broccoli, Tofu, Peanut Sauce recipe from the Enchanted Broccoli Forest.

Best pizza in MetroWest 'burbs?

We had a plain cheese pizza there a few weeks ago to try the place out and we loved it. The only mild criticism is that the pizza could have been a better cheese to sauce ratio...not enough cheese.
