Syracuse-Need a casual, sit-down place for dinner

Riley's is the place! I would not steer you wrong. It is my fave casual place but very unique and fresh food, you will love it. Sorry I chimed in late, but try it next time. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed unless you arrive late in diner hour and everyone has gobbled up all the best dishes on you!

NOTE: Doug Clark has retired and sold Doug's Fish Fry. The original location in Skaneateles is the best. It has his name on it but is no longer affiliated with Doug in any way other than that.
FYI, Clark's Ale House is closed, and it was owned by Doug Clark's son, Ray.

In my opinion, being from Syracuse, having lived in NYC and now back in the greater Syracuse area, the best restaurants here are:

The Sherwood Inn - consistently good comfort food in a comfortable atmosphere

L'Adour - French
also, Joelle's French Bistro in Skaneateles

Gentile's - (pronounced Jen-tilly's) is the absolute BEST restaurant in this area, hands down. Not inexpensive and not a family place. Romantic date place or special place to eat. Eclectic Italian.

Arad Evans Inn

Joey's or Nestico's for fantastic Italian. Illario's is also very good.

Pastabilities is unique and a fun atmosphere.

Papagallos's mexican in Fayetteville is great. The Mission has gone downhill in recent years.

Eva's in Solvay for Polish food, yum

Sahota Palace in Liverpool for Indian

China Road or China Pavilion for Chinese

Riley's - my #2 favorite restaurant in Syracuse

Doug's Fish Fry in Skaneateles for fried fish, hot dogs and french fries (no longer owned by a-hole Doug!)

Anthony's Pasta Bar in Hanover Square is delicious, better than even Pastabilities

Black Olive mediterranean

Tokyo Seoul for Korean bbq (also have hibachi and sushi)

Sakana-ya in Fayetteville or Armory Sq for Sushi

Kelley's on Velasko Rd for burgers -yum

Paladino's for thin crust pizza; the Italian Chef for Sicilian style thick crust

Mai Lan vietnamese

and in Weedsport, of all places, is the Old Erie Inn, which has delicious food and a comfortable atmosphere.

I am sure I forgot some but these are at the top of my head. I am so hungry now!

Dim Sum Syracuse?

Nope, that is the only Dim Sum in Syracuse. China Road does not do Dim Sum.
If you don't mind driving to Rochester, there are some very good Dim Sum places there. I do miss Dim Sum in NYC. I am pretty sure they do make everything there at China Pavilion, I have met the owners and they take a lot of pride in their restaurant. China Road's regular menu is very good - but honestly, I think China Pavilion has the best Chinese food in Syracuse.

Chrismas day in Syracuse

Syracuse is not known for its wide selection of restaurants, unfortunately. Not much is open on Christmas day here. The Genesee Grande is open until like 1 or 2 pm, it's in Syracuse on E. Genesee St. Other than that, you *might* have luck at a country club like Orchard Vali in Lafayette, near Nedrow - but most places are definitely closed on Christmas day in Syracuse. You could try ethnic restaurants, Chinese or Indian, who do not celebrate Christmas. Another option, if you do not want to prepare food, is to call Wegmans and order dinner for the number of people that will be eating and pick it up in advance the day before, and reheat it the day of. Joelle's French Bistro in Skaneateles offers a Christmas dinner priced per person, but the deadline for ordering may have already passed - if you wanted to go the gourmet route, you could call them. I think pick up is on the 23rd or morning of the 24th, reheat the day of. I ordered the take-out dinner from there for Thanksgiving and it was out of this world.
