Hot Chocolate - cocoa powder vs chocolate

People tend to rave about places that use "real chocolate" in their hot chocolate, but I've found that I often prefer cocoa powder. I'm not talking swiss miss here, but something like Valrhona cocoa powder with hot milk. It's common to hear people complaining about how x cafe makes their hot chocolate using powder rather than the "real deal" though, as if cocoa powder was inferior to chocolate. However, I think that using cocoa powder often leads to a richer, more chocolate-y flavor. Thoughts? Is it fair to actually say that hot chocolate made with melted chocolate is superior to its powdered alternative?

(I know it's possible and often beneficial to use both!)

Does anyone know where I can get Unicum Plum Liqueur?

I'm coming into Penn Station, so preferably somewhere close by.

My online research shows that Mister Wright stocks it, but they're on the UES, so I'm hoping for something closer. Any ideas?

Senza is closing in mid-January

I just got an email from Senza:

"Saturday January 17th will be Senza's final dinner service. Wheat's End Cafe, which will remain open in the Senza space on weekday mornings and Sundays, will shortly be expanding their hours and menu- stay tuned for details!"

Terribly disappointed to hear this. Senza was one my of favorites!

Liquor + Chocolate?

My friend's 21st birthday is coming up, and I'm looking for a gift that combines liquor and chocolate in a classy way. I'm looking for something unique and found everywhere (e.g Alban Berg). Does anyone know of any places in Chicago to buy good quality liquor-infused/filled chocolates/cakes/etc?

Any other suggestions of unique food items appreciated!
