Champaign-Urbana Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese I think that's Xinh-Xinh you are talking about (http://www.yelp.com/biz/xinh-xinh-caf...) -- we thought it was generally good, but the pho was bland (not a problem if you are good at tweaking pho tho). Haven't tried the banh mi there tho, have to try it next time! |

Champaign-Urbana Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese Little late reply, but was just searching for Champaign foodie responses. As you probably now know, its a bin slim pickings in town -- I wouldn't recommend ANY sushi place. There are a few good Korean restaurants (B Won is our favorite, but even Spoonhouse near campus ain't so bad). We like "Let's Take a Seat" Thai food, but would recommend ordering their standard dishes, as their specials can be really hit or miss. Xinh Xinh is passable Vietnamese, although their pho will need some expert tweaking. Finally, although you mentioned non-Chinese, I wanted to make sure you were aware of Golden Harbor -- good, Authentic Chinese food (not American-style). Cheers! |

Restaurants fit for local foodies around Union Square? Thanks for the suggestions (please keep them coming). We'll try one of the nicer restaurants this weekend (Canteen is top on our list), but here's the ones we hit up so far: - Dojima: ok ramen, nothing special. Now to go find a decent sandwich shop for lunch... ----- Little Delhi Lahore Karahi Dottie's True Blue Cafe The Old Siam Thai Restaurant |

Restaurants fit for local foodies around Union Square? My wife and I are between homes and are staying at a hotel in Union Square -- we are both foodies and have lived in SF for 6 years (mostly in the Mission), and like most SFers we typically stay away from Union Square. Now that we are stuck here without a car for a week or so, any recommendations for places to eat within walking distance? ALL food types suggestions are welcome. Cheers! (By the way, to calibrate, here are our tastes: best tacos: El Toyanense truck at Harrison and 19th, best Indian: Dosa's, best Chinese: Fang, best Dim Sum: Yank Sing, best Napolitano style pizza: Beretta, best sushi: Live, best place that in-laws pay for: Michael Mina, best Peruvian: Limon Rotisserie, best NY style pizza: none because its all crap in SF.) |
