Amazing XLB

Oh yes. Din Tai Fung. Just amazing. It was the first time I had ever had XLB. Nothing else has ever measured up.

Low Alcohol IPA?

Founder's All Day IPA. It's so delicious! We live in the Philadelphia area and the told us at the brew pub it should be available here in the Spring. Not sure if they meant the entire east coast. Hopefully! I like it much better than Lagunitas.

Food fun in Philly exburbs

Edit to my post: I might wait for that until the Spring when Michocana opens again for ice cream!

Or, in the same direction as Longwood Gardens, the Brandywine River Museum and Taqueria Moroleon. Perfect day!

Peppermint Cocktail that isn't sweet?

Any possibility of making a peppermint cocktail that isn't cloyingly sweet. I don't mind sweet but it seems like all the ones I can find are REALLY sweet. Too sweet.

What was the most memorable thing you ate in Hawaii?

We just got back from Oahu and the Big Island a few weeks ago. I was disappointed in the avocados I bought. Maybe I didn't let them get ripe enough. My choices:

Poke
Mangos
Strawberry Mochi (I didn't love them but they were VERY memorable)
Beer from Big Island Brewhaus
All things lilikoi

Vetri PRICE HIKE

I may be the only person in Philadelphia (and beyond) who didn't think it was worth it at $135. I'll look back on my pre-tasting menu Vetri dinners with fondness but I won't be paying $155. Not a chance.

Stateside

We ate there tonight. I was thrilled with the meal. We were there early. Probably around 5:30, so it was still empty. After a rocky start of waiting way too long to place a drink order, everything was excellent. There wasn't a miss in any of the dishes we ordered. My favorite was day boat scallops with chorizo and fava beans. But the house made goat cheese with figs and strawberries was a close second. We had many dishes and three desserts and we really enjoyed them all. The service--after the slow start--was also excellent. I'm already dreaming about going back.

Dining Alone Recommendations

Oh and I forgot. What about Girl and the Goat? Do they have a bar that you can eat at?

Dining Alone Recommendations

I will be in Chicago for a business trip staying at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers. I would like to be able to walk to dinner on Friday and Saturday night and hopefully find a comfortable place to dine alone. I'm looking at Frontera, Purple Pig and Sable. I want good food and good drinks (including beer). Moderately priced. I'd rather be able to sit and eat at a bar then a table. Are these good choices? Any others. I found great restaurant suggestions on the board but not a lot for solo dining. Thanks!

Salvadoran in Upper Darby, pupusas

They had tamales. Does "de Elote" mean something more than just corn tamales? I didn't have them but they were on the menu.

Salvadoran in Upper Darby, pupusas

We went this afternoon. It was only about 5:00 and we were the only ones there. The papusas were really yummy although the woman working there said she was really unhappy with the cheese. We had cheese and cheese and pork. They also had beans, cheese and pork and others. We also had plantanos fritos con crema. Yum. The beans were delcious. It was all really good. They had chicharron and fried yucca.

The woman working there said that it was the same place that was around the corner on Fairfield that is now closed. She said they had an issue with their partner there so they opened around the corner.

We will definitely be going back!

Quiet CC Lunch + Tasty + Value (Branzino)

I work close to Branzino and have been there for lunch several times. It's always been delicious. A couple of times the service wasn't greant but most visits it's been just fine.

Fancy pre-theater lunch rec for 8-yr-old? (Saturday)?

If you're looking for lunch and not tea, Estia right across from the Academy on Locust is a good choice. We went there recently after Mary Poppins with my mother and my 8 and 5 year olds. We had a lovely meal. We went there once before a show as well for lunch. Both times it's been a really great experience. They have a kids menu.

Menu help - What do you serve with Mac and Cheese?

Ham! I love ham with mac and cheese. And broccoli. But if it was for a big group, I would do ham and a salad since it's easier.

Talk to me about the salad and/or dressing that you are obsessed with now

That sounds absolutely amazing! I wish I had some right now.
