Husband's 35th Bday Dinner in Brooklyn

Prime Meats? Lots of meat. Very good steak, but also other good options. If you want to go a little "fancier" we have always gotten a good and special meal at Saul.

Sunday brunch with great bloody marys

Applewood in Park Slope has the best Bloody Mary I've ever had, and a great brunch menu, too.

Dean St. in Prospect Heights

I ate there two weeks ago (I think? the night of their official opening party) and really enjoyed it. I found the decor to be very nice and comfortable, sized well, tables well-spaced in front. The staff was all very nice and helpful. We had a few of the sides and the skirt steak and thought they were all really delicious. I loved the brussels sprouts in a butter sauce, thought the curried cauliflower was a nice change of pace as a side, liked the slightly unusual spin on the deviled eggs, and enjoyed the pumpkin hash. I thought the skirt steak was outstanding - ate all the veggies along with the steak and enjoyed them equally. The sauce for the steak was great. Loved the capers. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood and look forward to going back. A nice, comfortable neighborhood spot with really good food always makes my list.

Brooklyn Fare Restaurant

We went a couple of weeks ago. It's in a crummy location - sketchy buildings across the street, slightly sketchy crowd on the street - and totally worth it. Just a fabulous, delicious, interesting dinner. The table is kind of horseshoe-shaped and seats 18, I think. When you are seated you get a list of the main ingredient of each of maybe 10 courses. Then we got about 3 amuse bouche. Of the 13 or so dishes, the only one we weren't wowed by was dessert. We had a food writer next to us on one side, and an older couple from Queens on the other side and we all had a lovely time and agreed that it was a great meal.

New Mexico chiles in Brooklyn?

Try calling this place: Foragers Market is at 56 Adams Street (Front Street), Dumbo, Brooklyn, (718) 801-8400. I don't know for sure that they have them, but they might be able to direct you if they don't.

Best places in South Brooklyn (i.e. not Williamsburg) for Belgian beer selection?

Biercraft and Beer Table, both in (opposite ends of) Park Slope have good selections.

Is it possible? A $70 per head restaurant/caterer for a wedding?

We had booked the Bird & Bottle for our wedding 6 years ago, and, after confirming and taking our money, they closed. I know they are under new management now, but even 7ish years ago, they were more than $70/head. It is a great spot, though.

Brooklyn Farmacy on Henry St.

Yes, twice. Excellent both times. Really good, fresh ice cream, good fruit for sundaes, shakes and pies, really good whipped cream, pleasant service. A nice addition to the neighborhood, I think. The first time we went we had an unbelievable blueberry milkshake - mostly vanilla ice cream with pieces of fresh berries. This past time it was made with fresh sauce which we didn't like quite as well. Sundaes were excellent, as were ice cream sodas.

La Bagel Delight on 7th Avenue in PS: Thoughts?

Not the best bagels (Bagel Hole is far superior, as noted), but convenient for a serviceable bagel on the run, an egg sandwich, a lunch sandwich, and they do nice catering platters. I'd certainly rather have them around than a lot of the other boring bodegas or another bank or realtor.

Well, this is odd, but you can get a frozen turducken on FreshDirect for $6.99/lb., estimated approx. 13 lbs. Not sure where you can get it cooked.

South Slope dessert place

Not a dessert place per se, but I had a delicious dessert at Lot 2 last week. They are on 6th Ave between 19th and 20th Sts. Great dinner, too. They have their liquor license now, so you could have a drink with it, if you wanted, and/or sit at the bar. They are defintely open late on weekends.

Pasta Con Sarde

I don't know about the best, but it's pretty great from Ferdinando's Focacceria on Union/Columbia in Carroll Gardens. Now I'm craving it.

GAP/Sat - Oysters & Skate

Didn't get any skate this weekend, but last summer had some and prepared it with brown butter and it was fantastic. Fresh, sweet, perfect. Enjoy!

Dressler or Hearth?

I've never been to Hearth, but recently had a great dinner at Dressler. Loud, fun, boisterous on a Friday night. Can't exactly remember what we had beyond oysters (which were fresh and great), but all was good including the cocktails. Would definitely be a fun place for a group of 6 (we were 4).

New in South Slope - Roots, Hanco's, Athena

The new Hanco's has the same problem with service - I went last week and it was very, very slow, with a bunch of us waiting for quite a while for a sandwich. That said, it was very good, and certainly a very welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Park Slope dining help

How about Ghenet? Ethiopian at 4th and Douglass. I am not absolutely sure what kind of oil they use for cooking, but a quick phone call could verify. It certainly has delicious vegetarian options and is close to the Lyceum.

New Orleans fare in Park Slope?

Good point, and FWIW, Two Boots' Kingfish Po' Boy may not be authentic, but is crispy and tasty and still that way when delivered.

New Orleans fare in Park Slope?

I went to NoNo twice and thought the food was pretty bad, actually. Apparently not to the taste of the neighborhood? Sorry I can't help with an alternative.

Brooklyn BYOB

We went to La Petit Crevette a couple of weeks ago. 144 Union Street - basically overlooking the BQE across from Carroll Gardens. BYOB and quite tasty seafood/fish and nice, mellow service. Would probably be great for a family get-together. New Green Bo is our go-to in Manhattan, as well, btw!

Brooklyn Markets?

Atlantic Avenue between Court and Henry or so has a pretty good selection of markets, mostly Middle Eastern. You can then swing down Court Street and find a few more good spots including Fish Tales (seafood), Staubitz (butcher) and further down into Carroll Gardens you hit a nice strip of Italian delis, butchers and bakeries. Sure wish we had a big market like you're talking about. I do love them in other cities and one would do well here, I'm sure.

How about Frankie's on Court Street? Hear their outdoor space is great for parties and their food is really tasty.

Beer spots in Brooklyn?

There's also Beer Table on 7th Ave and 14th (?) Street in Park Slope. Great spot with a long list of interesting beers, with tasty and unusual small plates, as well.

Where fore art thou Corned beef hash?

Dizzy's (9th St and 8th Ave in Park Slope) makes their own, though I think they put red peppers in it, which, to me, doesn't quite work. But homemade, fresh, and pretty tasty. I like their breakfasts in general.

Jewish-Style Deli Platters?

How about Fairway? I don't know if they deliver to BH, but it's worth a call. Pretty good platters, and definitely good meats, etc.

Brunch in Park Slope-help narrow down list!

Rose Water will be creative and beautiful, but it is pretty crowded. Great waffles, interesting sandwiches, sometimes a little bit of a Middle Eastern twist. Usually great, occasionally missing the mark. Applewood is just great - really good omelets and fairly straightforward brunch fare, with unusual cocktails if you're interested in that. Delicious bacon. Stone Park will probably have the most basic brunch on the list, but I'm sure it will be good. I've never been to Little D. The order I've mentioned is the order in which I would recommend them. Enjoy!

Baked Bakery in Brooklyn?

Ha. Just read the follow-up to my original reply. I did, indeed, grow up with excellent home-baked cookies, cakes, pies, bread. So perhaps I'm a tougher critic than some. My mom really does make a better cake!

Baked Bakery in Brooklyn?

It's on Van Brunt in Red Hook. Lots of hype, not as good as I expected. To me their baked goods seem like middle-of-the-road homemade. Better ingredients than many bakeries, but not extraordinary.

Sounds like an off night to me. I've never found it to be particularly salty. Sorry to hear about it, though.
