Newburyport - Buttercream Bakery?
I had heard great things about this place, only to find it's no longer open. Anyone know about the place going in there?
Annello's gluten free cafe - Portsmouth
Does anyone know anything about this new gluten free cafe opening? I'm curious about what kinds of foods they're going to be offering. Like real meals or just baked goods?
Best cup of coffee? - NH seacoast
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I'm trying to expand my horizons :) Where is the best cup of coffee on the NH seacoast and what makes it so? Thanks!
Best Chinese food NH Seacoast
I've been craving good Chinese food ever since I moved out here about a year ago, and have been pretty disappointed for the most part. Suggestions??
New restaurants, Portsmouth, NH
I liked Loco Coco's and had the fish taco as well. It was ok....I wasn't blown away at all. Maybe it was just the day I was there.
Gluten free dining in Southern NH
Thanks cimui, that is actually what has been the problem - hidden ingredients. Some things that you would think are naturally gluten free, can have gluten in them depending on the preparation. Pre-shredded cheese is one problem. Cheese is fine, but the agent they use to keep the cheese from clumping in the bag has gluten in it. So a restaurant could think they were serving you something gluten free, when actually they aren't. It's almost impossible to find a place that will go to that level of detail.
Gluten free dining in Southern NH
My sister was diagnosed with the gluten allergy a few months ago. Since then we've only gone out to eat a handful of times - to mixed results. One didn't get it at all, and she got sick. One totally got it and she was fine. We called ahead to another and they said they had tons of options, but really there was only salad. Any suggestions for places where she can get a good gluten free meal?? Anywhere between Nashua and the Seacoast would be great.
New restaurants, Portsmouth, NH
Thank you cepaulsen!
Yes! Ceres....I had Ciento in my brain for some reason. Doesn't scare me that they share a kitchen with Poco's. I honestly don't get the bad wrap. I've been over a dozen times and it's good. Not earth shattering, but good. Sometimes you just want nachos. Nothing wrong with that.
Good to hear about Four. Steak places really don't get me going, but their wood fired grill interests me.
I wholeheartedly agree about Black Trumpet. It's my favorite. I think Portsmouth is lucky to have such a place. I just hope the economic downturn doesn't force a dumbing down of the food. That would be heart breaking.
Portsmouth, NH on New Year's Day
I've eaten there a bunch of times. It's not going to be the greatest meal of your life, but I've always enjoyed what I ordered.
New restaurants, Portsmouth, NH
Has anyone tried Agave or Fore or Ciento? I'm curious to hear if they're worth it. Thanks!
Portsmouth, NH on New Year's Day
Flatbread pizza is very good and kid friendly, it's right across the street from Friendly Toast. I recommend doing Friendly Toast for breakfast, because there are far more options for dinner. Poco's Cantina on Bow St. is casual and good. The Gas Light is also solid, I prefer downstairs to upstairs. The Stock Pot on Bow St. is nothing fancy at all, very basic stuff, but it's kid friendly with a nice view. Hope this helps!
wedding venues
My husband and I got married in York, ME and were looking for a similar thing. We looked at the inns there, Stage Neck & York Harbor Inn, but neither were exactly what we're looking for. Stage Neck has an aweseom room on the water, but they only allow day time weddings in that room and ours was at night. We ended up having it at the York Harbor Reading Room. It's a private club directly across the street from the York Harbor Inn. It looks like a big old mansion built into the cliff overlooking the ocean. It was absolutely fantastic! They have a full kitchen and bar so you don't need to find a caterer. You can't stay there, but it's a short walk across the beach to the Stage Neck and a 2 second walk across the street to the York Harbor Inn. We had everyone stay at the Cliff House in Ogunquit, ME and had a limo shuttle people back and forth. You can have your wedding at the Cliff House as well. It's a gorgeous location, but the service is horrible. It's really a shame because it's a great location. This is the link for the reading room http://www.yorkharborreading.com/weddings.html.
Wentworth by the Sea is fantastic, but has very high food & beverage mins. We really had trouble finding the right kind of space in NH. There's not a lot of options for event space right on the water.
Asian market - Portsmouth NH
I went to Lo's, it's fantastic! Thank you for the tip. I found everything I needed.
Looking for Kozy Shack pudding....
My sister has recently been diagnosed with celiac disease (the gluten allergy) and Kozy Shack pudding has become her new favorite dessert. We've been able to find the regular rice pudding but haven't been able to find the other flavors like pumpkin or european rice pudding. Does anyone know where to find them? I know this brand is also popular with people who keep kosher, so I guess I'd also be looking for good kosher markets in the Southern NH / Nashua / Portsmouth / North Shore MA areas. We're willing to travel for this pudding :)
Asian market - Portsmouth NH
Thanks! I've driven past Lo's a bunch of times, but for some reason thought they only had seafood. Does "Lucky" have a better selection?
Asian market - Portsmouth NH
I'm cooking an Asian meal this weekend and I need to find a good Asian market in the Portsmouth area. I'm relatively new and don't know of any! Please help. Thanks!
Cape May help!
I grew up in NJ and vacationed frequently in Cape May as a child. I now live in NH and am returning for the first time in quite a few years with my husband for our first anniversary! I need some help with where to eat, as my dining tastes have changed since I was 8 :) I will definitely go back to Uncle Bills for some pancakes. I need help with lunch and dinner choices. Fine dining, casual, whatever. All suggestions will be appreciated!
ISO salted carmel ice cream in New Hampsire?
I don't know of anywhere around here that has it, but I love it too. I have an amazing recipe for it if you'd like it. I don't know if you have an ice cream machine, but they're pretty inexpensive. Let me know!
portsmouth dining advice?
I have to agree with all of your recommendations t.. I'd also throw in Friendly Toast for cheese fries late night :)
Portsmouth Good Lunch at Oar House
While I'm glad you enjoyed your lunch, I just had dinner there for the first time tonight and I was less than impressed. I ordered the lemon garlic shrimp pasta dish and it was horrible. The pasta was gummy, the sauce way too salty (and I'm a salt person) and the shrimp were so over cooked the were squeaking in my teeth as I chewed them. The service was very slow and the dining room was loud. There are much better places in Portsmouth to spend that kind of money.
Help! Seafood dinner for 9 on the NH seacoast....
Who knew a simple post about seafood restaurants could spark such controversy :)~ Thank you so much for all the suggestions! I'll post with wherever we end up going.
Help! Seafood dinner for 9 on the NH seacoast....
My in-laws are coming into town and we're all going out to eat - 9 people total. They're from upstate NY so I know they're going to want seafood while they're out here. I don't want the dinner to be super expensive, but I want it to be good. Any suggestions????
Sorry! Yes - I'm in NH. We can do the Portsmouth, Southern ME areas.
Portsmouth, NH kid friendly lunch with extended family, not too fancy?
I agree with most of the others. Friendly Toast is fun and the kids will love the decor. The Brewery is pretty run of the mill, but there will be something for everyone. I like the Gas Light - upstairs for sanwiches and downstairs for pizza. Flatbreads is great but I'm not sure they're open for lunch? And it limits all of your guests to pizza. Poco's Cantina is sort of a cheesy-Mexican place, but the food is always good and they have a nice selection. I like it there b/c of the view from the dining room overlooking the tug boats.
Specialty Food Shops in Seacoast area.
I'm relatively new to the area, but I love On The Vine in Exeter. Great selection and beautiful meats - http://www.onthevinemarketplace.com. Corks and Curds in Portsmouth is small but they always have a nice cheese selection. I just got a nice truffle honey from them that I'm dying to use.
Best places to eat in Portsmouth NH?
I feel Black Trumpet is the best restaurant in Portsmouth, hands down. The Dunaway is a nice location, but the food is a little over priced and just, eh.
What good to eat in Portsmouth, NH these days.
I saw a post earlier saying that Black Trumpet is over-rated. I respectfully disagree. In my opnion it's the best dinner north of Boston. And from my Boston experiences, it's probably better than most down there. Friendly Toast is a cool lunch option, flatbreads has some delicious pizza options. I would skip Popovers - we had a chicken pizza there with the bones still in the chicken! Poco's is inexpensive and always fun. Jumpin Jays has very fresh, nicely prepared seafood. Gas light is always solid too.
New England wedding restaurant
My husband and I got married at the York Harbor Reading Room in York, ME. It's a private club, built right into the side of a cliff overlooking the ocean. They do weddings for non-members but there's a fee involved. The food was fantastic and customizable. They were very accommodating. I highly recommend checking it out!
wedding question
I recently got married in York, ME. We had our rehersal dinner at Fosters. EXCELLENT clambake, everyone had a great time. The reception was at the York Harbor Reading Room. It's not marked with a sign or anything, but it's directly across the street from the York Harbor Inn. It's built into the cliff and is directly over the water. www.yorkharborreading.com Everyone was blown away by the location, the food was excellent, and the cost was very reasonable considering the area. Plus the people there were way more flexible than the people we met at the area Inns & Hotels. Good luck with the planning! :)
Nashua - Brazilian place on Main St.??
That's a pretty funny way to pay :) I had never been to the restaurant when it was Brasilian. I was just curious to know what might be going in there. Is 1 World Trading Co a store or a restaurant?
