Any favorite cakes from Whole Foods bakery?

I love their almond thingy - it like a toasted almond ice cream bar but in a yummy non frozen dessert.

I am so glad to hear this - hubby and I walked into one about a year ago and turned around - his quote 'this is a bad idea'.

ok, then I would say that Pin Wei is little on meat and I wish there was more sauce! That I can talk. mooklenuck is way out of my league - or should I say I am way out of my element.

Sorry pie - not sure I can pinpoint it - my best dan dan experience was at Han - but the quality and flavor was so inconsistent over many visits. I only tried them once at ping pong and can't remember what they were like. Pin Wei is definitely consistent, but not as good as my best Han memory. My best Han memory was the crazy szechaun peppercorn - it was hot!

We usually will order the cucumber with scallion oil, dan dan noodles, dumplings in chili oil, cumin beef, hot and spicy shrimp hot pot, spicy fresh fish hot pot and broiled whole fish with spicy sauce. I don't eat the fish - but I am told it is very good.

We used to drive to Limerick to the Sonic there - love the Limeades & it's a totally fun experience.....but now Elevation Burger is the only 'out' burger we eat now.

Ralph's South Philly/ King of Prussia branch

I went a few weeks ago. I do like their calamari with olives and peppers as odd as it is. I ordered the gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce with sun dried tomatoes and italian sausage. The frozen Trader Joe's product is waaay better. It is a 'pretty' space, but very pricey for disappointing food. I don't even remember what my husband had that's how memorable it was. I was at the orignial Ralph's years ago and found it to be very average but sometimes I like that for italian especially when bringing the kids. I remember the menu being very traditional italian dishes. The KOP menu seems more 'upscale' and less traditional.

poor at best

Almost a year later....an update - have been a few more times....overall I think it is too expensive for the quality. I do like the Jalapeno Margarita and the chips and salsaS, but the entrees are ok. Service has been terrible at subsequent visits. I don't get it. It's not hard. Better food and more bang for your buck at El Burrito (BYO) right down the street.

Kitchen Tool you had an 'a ha' moment with ......

I am not the head cook in the family, but I LOVE gadgets.....I can't believe that I have lived these ## years without a cherry pitter- OMG I totally enjoy fresh cherries so much more when I can pit them in bulk and then eat (or GLOM) them easily!! Yeah Wegmans for using them in a sampling demonstration that was to showcase the cherries and NOT the tool.

What kitchen tool can't you live without or changed your kitchen life??

Thx....yummykimmy

Sips Bistro and Bar Phoenixville

I was there on Tuesday and most likely will not be back for dinner. I had the onion soup which was better than most, but still not as good as my husband makes. For my entree I had the steak frites which was very bland. The frites were thicker than I would have liked and not crispy. The meat had no flavor. My husband had the Pissaladiere which he said was mediocre but the anchovies tasted a bit old. For his entree he had the duck confit which he enjoyed. Skipped dessert. Might try and go back for lunch someday to give it another chance - it looked like the outdoor dining area was nice. I don't think they are going to make it without some changes. Maybe I hit it on an off night?

I love the shrimp with the dry hot pepper at Han's - it's not on the menu, but they will make it for you. it was one of Han's recommendations many years ago when there was just the Exton location.

Real Sichuan (spicy) near KOP

Went tonight & ordered just a few of my favorite Han classics for comparison - Dan Dan Noodles and Shrimp with dry hot peppers....and some new things - 3 Vegetables, and Pork Dry Hot Pot......winner is.....Dry Hot Pot with Pork!!! totally sichuan - I love it! Dan Dan could have had A LOT more sichuan peppercorns...and the shrimp was heavily battered and puffy. So verdict is - will stay at Han for Dan Dan and my favorite Shrimp with dry hot peppers. But so happy that there is something with excellent sichuan nearby to get lots of NEW yummy yummy dishes!

Rte 30 between Paoli and Wayne

There's a reason you haven't heard of them....at least I can say that about Aneu and Alfredo. I will be watching this thread to hear about Tiramisu though.

Very boring....I know Aneu is really the old Meredith's, but I think Meredith's was better. I don't even remember what we ate at Aneu. Alfredo wasn't memorable either, I had a really good veal chop (it was a special), but overall I think San Nicola was a lot better. Have no desire to go back to either.

Carangi Bakery Nightmare (Paoli)

I got a seeded baguette, a cinnamon roll, and espresso. I've never been disappointed, and every time I go in I want to try their lunch offerings, but never have. Have had other breads and cannolis before - always yum.. If only they could turn that smell into a candle.

I used to LOVE deviled ham mixed with mayo on white bread.....tried it again about 15 years ago and couldn't even eat more than a bite - reminded me of cat food.

Which two Jose Garces restaurants should I choose?

My absolute favorite is Amada. I still loved it after a trip to Barcelona. For the record, I take Barcelona anyday, but Amada will do since this is where I live. My next Garces choice would be Tinto - definitely not my favorite - but not because of the food, but the restaurant atmosphere. I HATE eating at high top tables. I feel like I should just have a drink and go. The food is great, but I am always uncomfortable there. GUAPOS Tacos are totally fun and totally yummy!

Steve's Prince of Steaks -- still pretty durn good

Yum - tried for the first time yesterday. Like the style of non chopped meat, and the bread is nice and crusty. My first few bites were, eh...then I got to the yummy onions and cheese! The drink/fry guy was totally stoned and almost ruined the experience because he was so inept, but the french fry guy preparer saved the day and picked up his sorry a$$ slack. Their locations are way out the way, but glad we made a trip of it yesterday....after lunch we headed over to a laser tag place across from the Neshaminy Mall and had a great family day!

The Best Chain(franchise) or fast food hamburger

Elevation Burger hands down. Still love a Fudd, but all near ones have closed - we alter travel plans to get there once a year. We have a local CC, but EB is way better!
