Art & Soul, New Jersey Avenue

I"m a visitor from the southwest, here for Mother's Day with my son who is working on the Hill. We ate at Art & Soul, which did a great job being both approachable, delicious, and inspiring us with new tastes....the Chilled Pea Soup was really good, as was the Cornbread with Scallions n Sorghum. the Seafood gumbo was fabulous: not over the top, but deep. My son had the pork platter with Mac n Cheese, which was outstanding. Nice ambiance, not too expensive, good staff, great local lemon-lime soda & gingerbeer (non-alcholic). Really interesting mix of southern and fresh....worth a visit and its close to the Capitol, Mall, etc....

Pago! We ate there tonight it was one of the best meals we've ever had....thank you so much for the recomendatoon. Not only great food....the market fruit and vegetable starter was amazing....but when ar asked about a place for breakfast they not only gave us a suggestion but also called to make sure there wasn't a private function as a courtesy.....
don't miss the tomato and melon gazpavho either....

Recommendations in Salt Lake City? Dinners? Breakfast?

My son is starting college at Westminster in the Sugarhouse area but we are staying downtown........any suggestions? the last time this was asked seems to have been 2007 so I thought I'd ask for an update. We'll be there in mid-August........
We're omnivores, so interesting trumps fancy in our opinion. Good local chefs always count as interesting.........
And, recommendations for a place to have a drink downtown once he is safely in his dorm?
Thanks so much, in advance

BBQ Charlotte?

decision was made to go to Mac's Speed Shop. Great okra stew, red beans and rice, and brunswick stew. Lousy tough brisket. Pulled pork looked better but I didn't taste it.
Thanks for the tip, unfortunatley rtomorrow is a corporate deal so no leeway to do anything interesting. thanks though and steer clear of Mac's....

BBQ Charlotte?

just read through the old boards on this topic ....Midwood still the best local bet? saw one mention of Bubba's but nothing else that is somewhat authentic and NC flavored.

a bunch of hungry arizonans at the Omni (with a car)

The Best of Tucson

Thanks to everyone for this list and discussion. My report back:
CeeDee's Jamaican Kitchen was our sunday night choice really good. proprietress wonderful, made curried fish for me (fishetarian); companions reported fabulous jerk chicken and curried chicken and goat. Plantains and veges super.....even the rice was good. Red Stripe beer, rum cake made with rum soaked papaya. I drank the watermelon and pineapple drink...delish......thanks for the great recommendation chowhounds!

Suggestions for a Sunday night in Tucson? preferably hot and spicy

We've already eaten at Cosa Poca, found the drinks great, the Chef's Plate the most fun, but food was uneven on a Saturday night. Spectacular mole chicken, fish veracruz style, and tamale pie. Pork and beef dishes less wonderful.
So, one more night before returning to Flagstaff...hot and spicy asian or indian or mexican (just not tex - mex) and preferably not too expensive.......
Thanks, Flagstaffers enjoying the sun!

Durango and Telluride

Never eaten anyplace with a destination dessert before but their pannacotta was unbeleivable. LIght, complex, full of different flavors all complementary.
We drove over from Dolores, CO, the building, patios, staffing, and food/wine were all great. My husband had the lamb (he loved it) I had the crab cake salad with shaved fennel.....also great. Good wine, good dessert, just a super place. Will not miss the chance to try other things next time we're in Four Corners Area. Well worth the 40 mile round trip and the $$$..
