Southern Barbecue in Boston? Oxymoron?

Kudos for this post-- I'm a Boston transplant living in Georgia for military service and when I come home I like to still have some sweet tea and some good bbq..and some to die for mac and cheese, banana pudding, collards and the like :). Thank you for posting this!

Where can you find dried fava beans?

In the "International" aisles in the supermarkets, looks for Gonsalves Portuguese products--you should be able to easily find fava beans in all sorts of configurations. If not, a Portuguese grocer in Cambridge or Somerville will likely have what you want.

quirky personal home food combinations....

My grandmother would make chicken legs and peanut butter in a giant pot and we'd eat it with rice.

How Old Were You When You Began to Cook? What Was Your Starter Dish?

I was around 7 years old when my mom started to teach me and haven't turned back yet :)

Does anyone else find this combo more than a little repulsive? Mayo + White Rice

If there was a protein involved, then I would probably be more supportive of this mix, however...even as a rice and mayonnaise lover (separately!), I am going to have to say eww!

Cupcake City in Reading?

This is so awesome to know that there is a decent cupcake place in Reading--I'm going back to visit family in a few months and have been trying to keep a watchful eye online to see if there are any places I would like to especially try. Cupcake City seems like it would be a good one.

How many places do you buy groceries at?

I used to only go to one in Massachusetts--good ol' Market Basket and shop at various bakeries for baked treats. However, I'm in the military now, far from an area that has great little mom and pop bakeries so I buy most of my meat and toiletries at the military commissary, then buy fruits and veggies and the rest at Kroger. I do miss the fishmongers and quality butchers up north. :(

Your Favorite McDonald item(s)

I try not to eat here too frequently, however I love the filet-o-fish, chicken nuggets with sweet and sour sauce and french fries. Oh! And of course, the hash brown with an egg mcmuffin.
