Rivera recs?
yes. top 10 in LA in my book. tortillas, steak or duck enchiladas, flan! cocktails sublime.
Tavern- Brentwood - Update
If a $17 burger is not expensive to you, you should live in Brentwood. I found all the food there expensive and BORING (good service though). Won't be back at those prices....
Nice New Wine Store in Hollywood - Domaine LA
Their focus seems to be smaller producers from Europe. Good everyday drinking selection, not a wine store where everything you buy to save.
Nice New Wine Store in Hollywood - Domaine LA
This place just opened on melrose near highland next to california chicken. Nicely curated selection of offbeat wines, reminds me a little of Silverlake Wine. Nice owner Jill. Nice classy space, hopefully they will set up tastings.
I am a loyal K & L customer, but will definitely start buying from here, it is in my hood.
Ludobites is back!
Went last night, only ones there (for shame). Fried Chicken was mind-blowing, best I've ever tasted. All else tasty, loved the butter with the breads.
Church and State-hype
Mine too, exact opposite. Loved all the food, and the waits were bearable via the company. Not a fast service place, but one to linger in. Service fantastic.
Pizzeria Mozza: as good as they say?
Second that. Not as good as they say (but pretty good nonetheless).
AK: AOK
Ok BB ;)
Run, don't walk to AK, and get the pork belly with peas and morels, swedish meatballs and the mushroom risotto. The food there is truly astounding.
It's on Abbot Kinney just off Venice.
AK: AOK
AK is a restaurant in Venice, on Abbott Kinney. A name, not an abbreviation.
Master Somm is a Master Sommelier indeed.
AK: AOK
Went last night with a friend and a MS (master somm, none in LA).
Brought our own wine (but list is very good).
Awesome food and a beautiful dining space. Food light, fresh, tasting of itself. Light touch on the seasoning and perfect ingredients.
To start we had the herring, gravlax, mussels, beet salad, artichoke and pork belly with spring peas and morels. All excellent, with the mussels and pork belly sublime.
Next had the lamb chops, swedish meatballs, mushroom risotto, and schnitzel. All phenomenal, I really cannot convey how perfectly executed these were. Complex with lots of ingredients, perfectly plated into a simple whole.
Stellar cheese plate and dessert.
Total bill: $260 for 4. A really good value.
This last year has been a bumper crop for LA restaurants (on the higher end). I would put AK, Gjelina and Church & State in my LA top 10.
My dinner at Tavern
Yeah, I think the whole AOC style is played out and needs a new direction.
Loteria Grill Kitchen Store
yes, it caught fire and they are relocating, probably downtown.
White Castle type burgers in LA?
Only seen White castle steamed at Ralph's--buy them. Otherwise you are out of luck.
Cristoni Pizzeria - Double Bust
Right, BH is still alive, but perhaps on life support...
Anyone been to Church And State?
Went last night and I can honestly say I have never been as impressed with French Bistro food in LA (or anywhere) as this place. It all works, from the ambiance, to the great, authentic winelist, to the sublime food. Standouts: salmon tart, escargot, charcuterie, cheeses, bouillabase (best I've ever had), herring, confit and cocktails.
Cristoni Pizzeria - Double Bust
TRIPLE BUST, aka Out of Business. Guess we hounds saw the writing here from day one. I am sure the Cafe Primo at Americana is not far behind. Anyone eating there?
Wine shop that specializes in Champagne?
Wine expo. They sell mostly Champagne, as well a Italian wine. In Santa Monica.
Bar Pintxo
I actually liked what I had there (except the paella with squid ink-terrible). Yet we spent even more than you, around $160 for 3 or 4 tapas, the paella and 3 glasses of wine each. It did feel like a rip off and I haven't returned.
I think this type of place only works if it is cheap.
Tagine mini-review
agree. this place is one of my go-to special occasion restaurants.
Cassell's Burgers on 8th and Western
Still in business on 6th, not very good anymore.
Kogi: Overrated Waste of Time
Go to the Alibi Room for a 20 minute wait instead. Loved it.
Dessert ideas for large group (200 people)
Cake Monkey individual desserts rock.

The Bazaar Review - Amazing food, Good Price, "trendy" Scene.
Nice review. Went Sunday, less trendy with 40 and 50-somethings, but food still amazing.
need ground duck
A very good way to go, as duck must be used very freshly ground. An even better route is to invest in a grinder--they start at like $30, and go up from there. I have 2, a cheaper electric one and a large industrial one.
Paul Martin--An American Bistro
I saw the list, not plonk you are right. I am sure the extra 3 oz. is factored into the price, though.
