Bahn Mi - Vietnamese Sandwiches on the Upper West Side

I noticed the use of the Vietnamese coffee press (I believe called a Phin) as well. I couldn't tell from Jonkyo's "review" if they had actually been to the restaurant.

Absolutely right, bea372. In this diverse neighborhood with Columbia just a few blocks away, advertising Bahn Mi would be an asset, but I think they may be afraid of a Vietnamese identity. I think adding Pho to the menu would be an added draw. Unfortunately though, buried on 108th, very little foot traffic is going to see their sign anyway. I hoping word of mouth does the trick!

If you're still looking, a Bahn Mi shop (sort of) just opened. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/828010

Bahn Mi - Vietnamese Sandwiches on the Upper West Side

If you're looking for Bahn Mi and Vietnamese coffee, you no longer need to make the trek downtown or to Brooklyn or Queens. This odd menu, which includes fried calamari, caesar salads and Buffalo wings among other things, features delicious Vietnamese sandwiches served up with hot, sweet Vietnamese coffee.

No tables...just a small counter, this is really a takeout place, located on 108th Street, just east of Broadway. Restaurants on side streets in this neighborhood rarely survive, so I hope this one is the exception. It just opened yesterday with a limited menu they promise to expand. I'm hoping for Pho, but for now, the Bahn Mi are a great addition tot he neighborhood.

Vareli

2nd ras13's comments. Been to Vareli three times. Every dish (with the exception of an errant cauliflower side) has been uniformly well prepared with quality ingredients, perfect seasoning, and in most cases, generous portions. A butternut squash soup had a creatively nutty savory flavor without the usual mundane heaviness of too much cream and butter. Chicken salad was a perfectly prepared piece of moist free-range chicken, crispy carmelized skin, and a well-seasoned salad of mixed greens. Looking forward to visit #4!
