Hello, I'm Your Annoying Server

really? people are offended by this? maybe the mgmt. wants them to do it. i'd understand being annoyed if they were constantly in your face and chatting and whatever, but telling their name? get over it! being a server is not easy... give them a break.

baked chicken wings?

I never fry my wings either.

First make your buffalo sauce: your favorite hot sauce + butter + salt + pepper + your fave herbs/spices (i use a little oregano) - heat all ingredients on low heat for a few minutes to get warm and tasty

You can marinate them overnight then bake them off while basting with the sauce, or bake the wings (drizzled with some olive oil) naked then toss them in the sauce afterwards. Usually, 375 deg. for 30-45 minutes does the trick.

Homemade blue cheese dressing - equal parts mayo and sour cream, salt, pepper, shot of lemon juice, chunks of blue cheese - let sit in fridge for an hour to meld flavors.

Schrod vs. scrod

I feel as if my world has been turned upside down. I trusted my mom when she told me scrod, schrod, and cod were all the same thing! Worlds are colliding! It's okay though, I rarely see any signs for these fishes at all now that I'm out of New England.

Literally Hot Trend: Chefs Putting Ash on Food

I can't help but think the burnt/ashy/smoky flavor would dominate an entire dish. Is that the point? Is that a good thing? I don't know about this trend... it would take a convincingly delicious dish to make me want to try it.

Anniversary Question

I'd say cook the steaks and enjoy the wine at home for your actual anniversary. Very romantic. Then you can go all out and have your fancy dinner on the weekend.

Grimaldi's in Highlands

It's the price you pay to eat in Hoboken :) I love Grimaldi's though. I live near the 2nd and Clinton location and get a pie at least twice a month.

What's The One Thing You Can't Eat, even for money.

bananas are my kryptonite... i'd probably do it for a million... no less - worst fruit ever.

If you don't get free bread at a restaurant do you think it makes them cheap?

Bread shouldn't be expected, I don't think. It's a bonus. Nothing in life is free, so why should a basket of bread be? I don't base my opinion of a restaurant solely on the freebies. It's all about the meal, drinks, and service. It's certainly nice to get the bread, but I wouldn't expect it.

Zylo at W Hotel was a disappointment

River Palm is nice but they don't have a view. Go to Ruth's Chris (across the st. from Chart House) and ask for a table with a view. Great food, great service. They have a nice pre-fixe.

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

mmmm... ensuyamadas... i've been meaning to make my own with a good sharp cheddar. the ones i get from the phillippine bread house have a delicate cheese, but are amazing nonetheless.

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

that's funny... my SO just confessed that he likes ranch dressing, but only on weird items like pizza... he hates it on salad... go figure. to me ranch is something i say i don't like, but deep down, i really enjoy dipping hot, crusty bread in it :)

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

My Mom used to mix cottage cheese with chives and put them on Wasa crackers. So delicious.

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

Cheez-its with:
-peanut butter
-cream cheese
-just about anything
i love them so much...

Zylo at W Hotel was a disappointment

Go to the Chart House for a cocktail and the view, not the food. I had a great experience at Zylo when they first opened up. I was curious how things were going since then.

An Abundance of Cider - would love your favourite, tried & true recipes

Chop up some butternut squash and put in a large, microwave save vessel. Fill up half-way with cider and nuke until almost fork tender. Roast the almost-fork tender squash for a few minutes to caramelize. Take the liquid and reduce down on the stove with some maple syrup. When the squash is done, puree with the reduced liquid. Add butter if you wish. Awesome.

Rendering fat and then cooking the protein in its own fat - do other people do this?

I think that's an awesome idea. Why waste good fat? That's why confit is so popular (and tasty).

Restaurants everyone loves--except you

I feel the same...Balthazar has always provided me with a great meal. Pastis on the other hand always leaves something to be desired. It doesn't help either that they left a big wad of aluminum foil in my friend's entree... oops.

Armonk Country Kitchen- you lied!!!

I understand your situation. There was a reason why you asked if it was all white meat! I would call and speak to the mgr. Aside from that, why do you hate dark meat? I enjoy it more than white because it's richer and tastes more... chickeny.
