Polish bakery in Yonkers, NY

Hi everyone,

My family and I are trying to figure out if there are any Polish bakeries left in Yonkers. When I was a kid (and when my mom was a kid!), we all bought our communion cakes (with the host on top) from a Polish bakery but none of us can remember the name. The reason I'm asking is that I need to order an old fashioned birthday cake in a few weeks, but I don't like any of the bakeries in Westchester (Lulus, Pastry Corner, Riviera, etc.)

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Shippable Goods from France [moved from France board]

Hello everyone,

My mom and I were supposed to take a girl's trip to France this year, which is probably no longer happening due to her job being cut. So, for Mother's Day, I wanted to get her something from France, like cheese or chocolate (or both!) and my questions are 1) if there are cheese and chocolate shops that will ship their items to the United States and 2) if so, can you recommend any?

thank you all in advance!

Update - got a test cake from Pastry Corner and it was really awful. No taste whatsoever. And the woman behind the counter was really snotty. So I ordered a cake from Flour and Sun, hopefully it tastes great!

Christmas Eve Dinner in Westchester

Hello everyone,

Any suggestions for a good Christmas Eve restaurant in Westchester? I am in Sleepy Hollow, and am willing to travel about 25 min max. I am considering The Kittle House, but am open to other suggestions. It will only be my mom and I for dinner, and neither of us eat meat, so we're looking for a place with nice soups, salads, appetizers, pastas, etc.

thanks in advance!

Okay, I just ordered a cake from Pastry Corner - the woman wasn't very friendly, but as long as she doesn't take it out on my cake, I could care less! I hope it turns out great - thanks for your suggestions, everyone!

Apples - to which place are you referring? Pastry Corner or Lex Square? Thanks!

I've heard a few people recommend them, but have yet to actually go to the store. This is for a birthday, so I'm steering away from anything holiday-related!

I'm so surprised by the lack of really great old-fashioned bakeries in Westchester.

Thanks. I just checked their website but they don't list the frosting types. There is another place in Mt Kisco - the Pastry Corner? I've driven by a few times but never tried any of their cakes.

Need a great cake!

This message is cross-posted from the "BEST" thread.

I need a delicious birthday cake for the end of December. I am looking for something fresh that tastes homemade, not necessarily something that just looks pretty. I like store-bought cakes, but most have that "been sitting in a commercial refrigerator" taste.

I have tried Lulu's in Scarsdale, but the quality of their buttercream has gone downhill - it now tastes like you're eating a stick of butter (and to be clear, I LOVE butter and buttercream more than anything!)

Riviera in Ardsley tastes fresh and the cakes are beautiful, but they aren't life-changing. I don't like Homestyle in Peekskill at. all.

Any others that I should consider? I have heard reviews of Sweet Lisa's in Cos Cob, and Alibethcakes in Sleepy Hollow. I'm leaning towards the latter since it's located in my home town!

Thanks in advance!

Best Cakes in Westchester, NY

I need a great birthday cake for the end of December. I am looking for something fresh that tastes homemade without that "been sitting in a commercial refrigerator" taste.

I have tried Lulu's in Scarsdale, but the quality of their buttercream has gone downhill - it now tastes like you're eating a stick of butter (and to be clear, I LOVE butter and buttercream more than anything!)

Riviera in Ardsley is great, but it doesn't wow me.

Any others that I should consider? I wouldn't mind getting one from Riviera again, but I'm always open to looking around. I want a cake that tastes as good as it looks - I'm not a fan of fancy or beautiful cakes that taste bland.

Thanks in advance!
