I have never heard of Hackenmuellers.... sounds interesting enough though! Will have to google that one. If you get to it before I do, I hope they go well for you

veal shanks for osso buco

I will try Buon Giorno since that is in my neck of the woods... I have tried a few Lunds and Byerlys and have not seen them but have also realized some stores have a broader product selection based on location/size

Lychee Ice Cream or Sorbet

Cafe Kem has Lychee frozen yogurt on their menu. Not ice cream, but may be the closest thing you'll find.

Otherwise if you know where to find fresh lychee ( I have only ever seen them canned) I'd be interested in finding a recipe for homemade!

msp - Flourless desserts

Patisserie 46 has a few flourless options for Passover... Ugly but goods (delicious meringue cookies), awesome looking coconut macaroons, and something else on their passover order form that I can't remember!.

Purple yam recipes or ideas?

This is what I do... I made a few adjustments to cook's illustrated recipe for mashed sweet potatoes: Combine 2 lbs purple yams (washed, peeled, and sliced approx 1/4" thick) with 1/2 stick of butter cut into small pieces, a tablespoon or so of heavy cream, a few tablespoons of coconut milk, a pinch of salt, and a teaspoon of sugar. Cook over medium low heat, stirring occasionally until potatoes fall apart when pierced with a fork. If they start to look dried out, add more coconut milk, heavy cream, or milk. Off the heat, mash with a fork. The end result is heaven... and not horribly bad for you since the potatoes are "braising" in a lot of their own moisture.

Favorite Thai Restaurant

I have to agree with you, of the places I've had pad thai I like King and I's the most.

Sufganiyot (Hanukkah donuts)

I went to their facebook page and it said until they find a store location they are only delivering.... I settled with Cub donuts... which to be honest I think would be borderline amazing if they used higher quality fillings and icings... the donuts themselves melt in your mouth.

Sufganiyot (Hanukkah donuts)

I just checked and unfortunately they don't deliver to where I live. I may try the ones at Byerly's SLP if I get out there... anyone have any thoughts on Byerly's donuts?

Favorite Thai Restaurant

I've had many things that I liked... curries, spring rolls, papaya salad, any of their noodle dishes, a lemongrass chicken dish....

Other people enjoy it too based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews

Favorite Thai Restaurant

I've been to Bangkok thai a few times. Once, I was with a gluten free friend and when we inquired about what was in their pad thai the server said "ketchup" and in addition also said no tamarind and no fish sauce. How authentic is that?? With that said, I highly recommend Supatra's thai on 7th street in Saint Paul. It's the best across the board so far of all the thai places I've been to here.

Anyone know where to find higher quality filled donuts? Not the kind that are filled with that canned sickingly sweet "goo" ?
