BBQ/Grill Buffet - Father's Day

Thanks for the information, will add it to the list for future consideration, but not exactly what we are looking for for Sunday. Good idea though.

BBQ/Grill Buffet - Father's Day

I've heard that some restaurants have a BBQ/Grill for Father's Day and other holidays, but I have not been able to locate too many of them. Have you been to any of them or do you have any suggestions. It sounds interesting instead of the usual "Sunday brunch." Thanks.

Seeking: Lobster Bake in NJ

These are great. Keep em' coming. I would also enjoy hearing about some places that are a bit more rustic and/or casual, if they do exist.

Anyone ever order a custom cake from BJ's?

I remember eating a few slices of those sheet cakes the last couple of years, but I was not the one who personally ordered them. If given enough time, I would imagine you would be able to order a special cake. I am not sure of the turn around time, or what they would be willing and able to complete. From what I remember they seemed to be as good as any other birthday cake. But that all depends on what you are comparing the cake to. Hopefully others will have a better description for you. Enjoy.

Your Picks For Great Pancakes And Omelets

Looking for your picks on a great selection of pancakes and omelets and other breakfast and brunch items. They don't need to be at the same location, although it may be tough if someone wanted a combo. Thanks.

Seeking: Lobster Bake in NJ

Where can I find a lobster bake or something similar in New Jersey? I am not looking for a one-time catered event, but something that is offered on a regular or weekly basis. It can be all-inclusive (buffet-style), all-you-can eat or ala-carte menu. I would prefer something within 60 +/- miles from Central NJ, but am willing to travel a further distance (NY, NJ, CT, DE) on your recommendation. Thanks.

Out of the ordinary dining establishment and/or experience to celebrate birthday - interesting array of menu items/selections

Sorry for the delay. I was looking for something for the end of the month, but now that I think of it, I might as well add an additional birthday gathering for July. Your right, the weather can make a difference. We are still open to suggestions. Thanks.

Out of the ordinary dining establishment and/or experience to celebrate birthday - interesting array of menu items/selections

In search of your recommendations for a casual gathering/dining establishment and/or experience to celebrate a birthday that can be out of the ordinary with an interesting array of menu items/selections. Can have rustic charm. Some type of entertainment can certainly be part of the day, but not mandatory. As far as location, we would like to start in the middle of the state of New Jersey and take it from there. Willing to travel further. Alcohol is not a priority, nor are white table clothes. Casual dress. Thanks.

Client/Biz Lunch Suggestion(s), Westfield, NJ

Thanks all for taking the time to respond and really think about the selection and choices in Westfield, NJ. They all sound like great dining establishments. I checked out some of the websites for the restaurants you had all recommended. Seems as if we'll choose between Ferraro's, Theresa's or Isabella's Bistro. Seems as if they would have a great variety of menu choices in a somewhat relaxed atmosphere. As the website notes, Theresa's and Isabella's are both run by the same owner? How's that Mojave Grill? Not for this time, but maybe in the future? I will surely check out the others you have all listed in the future. At this point, I think both the French and steak restaurants would be a bit of a limited menu selection. I also read a post or two on Jeffrey's? Any thoughts? Thanks again.

Chickpea (garbanzo beans) - no salt brine

I've been attempting to pay attention to the ingredients and nutritional values on "most" products, (have to splurge, sometimes) and I find it interesting that the canned products that I have picked up seem to have an exorbitant amount of salt added. Now whether its for preservation, which I find difficult to believe, hence the pressurized canning process, or to get a "head start" on ingredient prep, I feel as if I would want to control the ingredients/recipes as much as possible. My thoughts parallel on the same line as adding a salted broth as a component in a recipe (i.e., soup), when there may already be naturally flavored ingredients already added. I would like to control the taste. I do understand the use of adding salt to many dishes, as it enhances the flavor profile.

So, is there such a product available that only has chickpeas and water. My feeling is that it may not be readily available or too expensive for one reason or another for many markets to carry it, or I may just be looking in the wrong section. If I cannot find the product, do you usually purchase prepackaged bagged garbonzo beans or loose? How long do you usually cook the dry garbonzo beans for? I was thinking of trying to produce a homemade hummus. Falafel sounds good to. Thanks for all your help.

Need your recommendations on a chickpea (garbanzo bean) brand packager/manufacturer/canner that does not pack them in a salt water brine. Seeking an all natural product. Thanks for your help.

Post Skating Warm Up Spot Near Bryant Park

Mrseigerman,

There are plenty of locations around Bryant Park (40th and 42nd Streets & Fifth and Sixth Avenues) to have a great experience. One location that immediately came to mind that is certainly within walking distance from the park is actually near Rockefeller Center called the American Girl Place. (609 Fifth Avenue at 49th Street) http://www.americangirl.com/stores/lo... - On the upper floor of the retail space they have a great decorated space, a cafe, in which they offer a menu ranging from lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and brunch. If I am not mistaken, I even think they allow you to borrow dolls to dine with, hence it being the American Girl Place, if you don't bring your own. I am not sure if this is the type of location you are seeking, but according to the site, it seems it could be less then what your were quoted from the pond ice rink. I'm not sure where your coming from, but if your not local, since we are heading into the holiday season, the general vicinity will be busy, so keep that in mind. It would certainly be a great birthday experience to remember.

Surrounding the park there are a number of the usual coffee shops and baked good outlets.

Other ideas include the usual Times Square locations, depending on where your coming from and if you want to walk a bit further.

I will post again, if I can think of any additional specific recommendations. Keep us up to date when you make your selection.

'Typical Fare' Chinese Cuisine Restaurant

Jogging your memory. When I used to frequent Morris Avenue (Union County) I remember there used to be an old-fashioned/classic sit-down/take-out Chinese cuisine restaurant (now long gone) located in the township of Union, NJ that served classic Chinese American dishes. Typical fare included appetizers, combination plates (tea, soup, main dish, rice, dessert) and You Pick A/B column dining selections. Not fancy, not expensive, but always reliable and great food. I even remember the booths. Does any such places still exist? Doesn't need to be in Union County. Thanks.

Casual Dining for Celebration

Seeking your recommendation(s) for two or three casual restaurants for a family celebration. One location for breakfast/brunch and the other one or two for lunch/dinner. They could all be something a bit different (decor, style, atmosphere, cuisine). No specific type of cuisine is requested, but would prefer the location(s) to be in the vicinity of the central part of the state; Morris, Union, Essex, Middlesex, Monmouth counties (no particular order). Would also consider something outside the area, (even NY State) if it comes highly recommended. Thanks for your help.
