Where can I find an Original 'Old School' Italian Hoagies?

Agree on both Cosmi's & Chickie's. Heard good things about Pastifico's on 1500 block of Packer Ave. strip mall.. Parking lot at Pastifico's. Paesano's, 152 W. Girard Ave., Daddy Wad Sandwich is one of the best classic Italian hoagies you'll ever taste.

Where To Find Philadelphia Pepper Pot Soup (canned/frozen?)

There is the Polish version of Pepper Pot soup called flaczki is available at Super Deli, 2625 E. Allegheny Ave., Philadelphia in the Port Richmond section. Sold by the quart & can be frozen. I love Pepper Pot & find this a very hearty & meaty version. Worth the trips from the 'burbs, especially if you also plan Polish lunch at Syrenka's or in the restaurant at the front of Krakus Market on Richmond St. (they have Flaczki also). As for snapper soup, a decent version is sold at Rieker's Meats, 7979 Oxford Ave., Philadelphia in the Fox Chase section.

ISO Cheap eats Philadephia: looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks - all for under $10 a meal

I forgot to mention the New Town Restaurant at 448 N. 9th St. Only open until 3 PM. Great breakfasts & home-made soups. A true Mom & Pop operation with a great waitress. Ample on-street parking.

Pete's Clown House, 3800 Frankford Ave. (at Pike, near Erie-Torresdale El Stop) for breakfast or lunch. Stuff your self for under $ 10 with generous tip. Food cooked by owner, Ronnie, right at counter. Tons of tables & good, old school staff.

Soft Pretzels

In the late 50's a man with a cart came down 2000 block of N. Lawrence St. in North Philly daily (except Sunday) with 5 cent pretzels. 3 mini-pretzels for 5 cents also. Mustard was spread from a large jar with a stick. Jar was attached to the cart with a cut-out for the jar.

Breakfast in Port Richmond or Bridesburg?

Breakfast is very good at Mercer Cafe - 2619 E. Westmoreland St. (at Mercer St. ) in Port Richmond. It's a block away from Allegheny Ave. Mercer is a neighborhood place & I frequently see kids there for Saturday breakfast. Bridesburg is barren for breakfast. Only Bridesburg lunch places are bars.

Czerw's Kielbasa in Port Richmond..

Bob, his wife & his team are there 6 days a week grinding it out. He is also one of the last remaining real corner store butchers. Try his breakfast sausages which are the favorites of the ever-finicky Senior Management. Meats & lunch meats always fresh. You can even call your meat orders in ahead of time for pick-up. Prices are competitive with the local supermarkets with specials advertised in his Orthodox St. window. His store is, indeed, a special place in Bridesburg.

Czerw's Kielbasa in Port Richmond..

There are 2 Lachowicz's. Bob Lachowicz is at Almond & Orthodox & the store has been owned by his family for well over 60 years. His kielbasa is my favorite. The other store was Dave Lachowicz at Thompson & Lefevre and is no longer owned by a family member.

Czerw's Kielbasa in Port Richmond..

Bob Lachowicz's at Almond & Orthodox (2582 E. Orthodox St.) in Bridesburg is my spot for pierogi & kielbasa. Port Richmond has Baltic Bakery at Almond & Allegheny (2566 E. Allegheny Ave.) which is great for cheese babka, packzis & crushciki; Super Deli (2625 E. Allegheny Ave.) & Krakus Market (3150 Richmond St.) are good for Old World meats & products. Krakus even has a small restaurant.

Leandro's pizza?

Leandro's still exists at 4501 Frankford Ave. near Sellers. There is another Leandro's near to Margaret St., but the 4501 location is where the shop moved when the El was reconstructed. Last time I was there the son from the original Leandro's was working. The slices are still the same!!!
