Columbus, Ohio help

I would throw Barcelona's in there too... they have great stuff like Paella and other Spanish dishes, so it is light on the red meat... And their patio this time of year is spectacular. Till is also another great option .

most fabulous dinner in colubus ohio $$$ no object

G. Michaels is fabulous.... Deep Wood I haven't been to but heard great things... if you want to go really local and funky (restaurant is in a a renovated house), I would recommend Alana's in the University District, menu is always changing, Alana the head chef comes out to speak with guests and offer small bites, fabulous place.... Rigsbys is good too, but I would pick one of the others first....

If you want to go old school, The Refectory is the real "money is no object" restaurant; the chef there is consistently nominated for the James Beard every year, but the restaurant is a bit out of the way, and very traditional in the sense of a white tablecloth type atmosphere, if you want to be a bit more casual, I like to sit at the bar... but you will not regret the food!

Searching for a recipe/ inspiration

Good Afternoon!
I visited Akumul, Mexico last year and at a restaurant there had a great seafood queso dip. Since I have gotten home I have searched for recipes, but can't seem to find anything... is this a dish that folkshave made before and could offer any inspiration for a recipe of sorts?

Thanks,
Hannah

Looking for something fun and off-beat in Columbus

I second the recommendation for the GV coffee shop, but anticipate a wait if you go on the weekend... all of the Betty's restaurants (Tip Top, Surly Girl, Jury Room, etc.) serve unique brunches. Skillet is good, but would recommend for lunch rather than dinner if you enjoy a cocktail with your meal as they don't serve alcohol.

Have you been to Thurmans? A must stop if you haven't (come hungry though!)

Other favorites:
Alana's (soooo good, higher end, but funky, always changing menu, sources her food locally, I always enjoy going there as she often comes out and serves samples to her guests and is happy to chat)

Basi Italiana ( a little hard to find as it is hidden down an alley, in a house, but is great)

Deepwood (more mainstream/ steakhouseish, haven't been there, but every time I see their menu I am reminded that I need to go)

G. Michaels- great food, never disappoints, usually there are a few suits, but still awesome

Barcelona- if you don't stop by now, come back in the spring and request to sit on the patio, best one in town!

Knead- good, casual, locally sourced diner grub

Any of the Betty's restaurants:
Bettys: Traditional, comfort bar food
Surly Girl: Tex-Mex
Tip Top: Ohio themed comfort food
Dirty Franks: Gourmet hotdogs (if you want funky and like hotdogs/ sausages, try here!)
Jury Room: Prohibition/ 1920s style food and drink
Her places are all great, casual, have atmosphere, are reasonable and unique, can't say enough about them!

Also, I would recommend the website Columbus Crave for more inspiration: www.columbuscrave.com ; they do a good job of breaking up the restaurants by neighborhoods.

Where to buy ready-to-cook whole turkey in Columbus OH area?

Weiland's allows you to order your turkey in advance and let's you order other Thanksgiving trimmings, ie. stuffing, gravy, potatoes, etc. so, even if they don't pre-season the bird for you, they may be able to put everything together with it so that you can get it all in one stop.

Best Food Markets in Columbus?

Well, there are the "big box" options... whole Foods on Lane Ave. As well as another one up on Sawmill. Trader Joes is another option for the normal stuff, there is one on Sawmill and one at Easton. For a more local focus, there is the North Market downtown, however, it can be hit and miss on what they. There are a lot of smaller markets where you might be able to find a bit more selction including Weilands, the Hills Market and Andersons. Also, it requires a bit more due diligence, but we have a large immigrant population here, so if you take the time to search them out, there are a lot of ethnic markets scattered around the City.

Hope this helps!

Columbus, OH: something fun and/or new?

Black Creek Bistro on Parson's Ave. is excellent .... I would also check out Skillet on Whittier, it is a very small place, limited dinner hours, so go early!
