Good Japanese restaurant downtown?

I have to entertain a small (10 people), international group who are here for a meeting, and am looking for a Japanese restaurant within walking distance of the Hotel Vancouver. It does not have to be an expensive/formal restaurant, but it should be attractive with good food and professional service.

Thanks for your help!

Where to go for drinks while waiting for a table at Vij's?

We're going to Vij's for dinner with some friends next Saturday. We won't be able to get there until 7:00, which may mean a long wait for a table. Is there anywhere around there that we can go for a cocktail while we wait?

Vancouver area: Fun restaurant with great food?

It's been a while since my husband and I have been out and about (2 little children at home), and we're going out for dinner with friends from out of town. We're in our late 30's, love good food, but are also looking for a lively atmosphere (at least not an empty restaurant). Current favourites are Gastropod, Chambar, La Buca. We're thinking of Boneta, Chow...any other suggestions? Anywhere in Vancouver (North shore included) is fine...

Thanks!

Ideas for great,mid-range dining in SF?

My husband and I are going to be in SF for 4 nights at the end of the month, and it's our first trip away together in a long time. We're staying at the Hotel Vitale by the Embarcadero, and are looking for some recommendations for places to eat at night. We aren't interested in high-end, glamour restaurants unless they're really fantastic. We're looking for fun, pretty or modern designed smaller places that have excellent food, entrees probably in the $20-$30 range. We love seafood, modern, French, Mediterranean, fusion, anything Asian. Ideally we'd like a couple of suggestions relatively near the hotel, but will also head into other areas for a couple of nights. I've been looking through these boards, and have seen some great suggestions (Piperade, Bar Crudo, Salt House, Slanted Door, Range and Boulevard). I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on any of them, or any other ideas on where we should go...

Thanks!

Best Modern Italian?

I'll be visiting NY in the fall, and am looking for a great Italian restaurant that isn't necessarily traditional. I'd like it to be lively, pretty (or cool decor), and in a perfect world it would have a garden or outdoor seating. Any recommendations?

Blow Us Away-Vancouver!!!

Oh, definitely agree about Vij's, but you should also try Tojo's.

Parkside (try their garden patio if it's sunny); Lumiere; Gastropod; West....

Lunch Near the VAG, Saturday

The Art Gallery Cafe is one of the best cafes in the city - it's pretty and filled with light; the food is very good and nicely presented (may I suggest the nicoise salad?); you can have a light meal or something more substantial; it's set up cafeteria style so it's fast, and you can have wine or beer. However, it is a favourite lunch place for everyone in downtown core, so try to get there just before noon to avoid a line. Also, their outdoor patio is one of the lovliest in the city - if there weather's nice, make sure you get a spot for lunch there!
