King Palace

Interesting to note that there's a new spinoff of King Palace called King Place at Sherbourne and Dundas, just north of the original location at Sherbourne and Richmond.

Sabich

They have a version of sabich at the new White Squirrel Snack Shop at 507 Queen West. It's decent but nothing compared Dr. Laffa.

"MAKKAH" - Delicious Indian Food at Insanely Cheap Price!!

Wow, I'm guessing this must be a sibling restaurant to Makkah on the Danforth. Love that place: cheap and spicy goodness. I'll have to check out the Scarborough locale.

Where can I find Korean Tacos in GTA?

I tried the Korean tacos at Jang Bang and they were pretty good. You can get a combo with bulgogi beef, shredded pork and BBQ chicken. Also tofu tacos available.

Where can I find Korean Tacos in GTA?

I had some Korean tacos in Kensington Market about a month ago, inside the Latin food complex in El Gordo's empanada place at 214 Augusta. This is the same space as Agave y Aguacate. The vendors are always changing there, so I can't be sure it is still there.

Alimento At King St West/Brant

I was just down there and it's definitely open. They have Italian and local cheeses and meats, lots of pasta, some baked goods. It looks pretty nice, although I don't think it's fully stocked yet. There's also Bar Mozza restaurant serving pizzas, salads, prosciutto, etc.

Balut in Toronto?

They have balut at Pilipinas Cusine. It's a Filipino place in St. James Town at 29 Howard St.

New York Subway Open Again

I was just down at New York Subway. The renovations were pretty minimal and the food is as good as ever. Some menu items cost 50 cents more, but it's still a super deal.

Where to find halva downtown?

They've got a good selection of halva at Global Cheese in Kensington Market.

New market at Dundas and Bathurst

Has anyone checked out the new market at Scadding Court Community Centre at Dundas and Bathurst?

There are a bunch of merchants in old shipping containers, including Monteforte Dairy and Magical Catering, a spinoff of Magic Oven. Apparently there will be more food merchants coming soon.

Can you find real Quebec-style curd cheese in Toronto?

I tried Monforte curds recently at the new Scadding Court Community Centre Live Local Marketplace. They were tasty but definitely not the real deal--no squeaking and very crumbly.

Where to buy djon djon?

They serve black rice made with djon djon at St Clair Bakery/La Belle Jacmellienne. It's a great bakery/Haitian take-out place at 3545 St. Clair Ave. East in Scarborough. I'm sure they could tell you where they source their mushrooms.

Can you find real Quebec-style curd cheese in Toronto?

Lots of places sell curd cheese in Toronto, but I've yet to find a place that does it right and serves it so fresh it squeaks on your teeth, like you can find everywhere in Quebec.

Anyone have a suggestion for me?

Bathurst and King - Please help

I would recommend the Old York at Niagara and Wellington. It's a relaxed neighbourhood bar with good food and it's easy to get a place on the patio.

Desi burgers

I was in Little India today and I noticed a bunch of places selling 'desi burgers.' Looks to be some type of burger made of chick peas.

Does anyone know more about this? What are the best places for desi burgers in Little India?

Thanks!

Agave Y Aguacate - delicious Mexican

Yes, TorontoJo is correct. Agave is switching to a summer menu soon. They're getting rid of the soup and adding a few new items.

Butter chicken poutine

Snarf, looks like Spicy Grill is in the same location as Debu, but I'm not sure if they are connected. Chickenbruiser, I'd have to agree that this plate is missing something crucial to poutine: real curd cheese. Still, an interesting experiment.

Anyone been to Karaikudi Restaurant on Kennedy Rd. (just N of Lawrence) in Scarborough?

I haven`t made it to Karaikudi yet but I agree at Anjappar Chettinad is wonderful. I wasn't there for the buffet but shared their "non vegetarian meal" and dosa from the menu.

Butter chicken poutine

I saw a sign for butter chicken poutine at Spicy Grill Indo Pak Cuisine in Kensington Market and had to try it.

It consisted of hand-cut seasoned fries with sweet sauce and melted mozza. Not bad, but not great either.

Anyone tried it? Apparently New York Fries also has butter chicken poutine. I wonder if that's any good.

The Best Of The Kensington Market

I agree with Snarf that the pupusa stall inside El Gordo is outstanding. This is one good looking pupusa!

Brasilian Feijoada Completa

Glad you got to try it. There's also a back patio now where you can eat behind the neighbouring restaurant, El Gordo. (El Gordo's owner and Segovia's owner are brothers.)

The Best Of The Kensington Market

Kensington is amazing. My personal faves are El Trompo (Mexican sit down restaurant), El Gordo and crew (Chilean empanadas and great back patio), and the Brazilian feijoada at Segovia's. Also, they have great Jamaican patties and doubles at Patty King.

The GTA guide to Colombian empanadas (really, really long)

Love the idea of the empanada hunt. Plaza Latina is amazing!

I have a shot of this mysterious Peruvian restaurant from my recent visit there. Pretty sure this is the place you're talking about.

Agave Y Aguacate - delicious Mexican

Good news! There is now a beautiful patio behind the building where you can enjoy your food. It's a lovely little space with tables and flowers.

Newfoundland food

Seaport Merchants has a full range of fish and live lobster, plus all kinds of East Coast specialties. They have navel beef, Purity brand cookies, chow chow, partridgeberries and many other things. It's at 1101 Victoria Park Ave. and St. Clair East.

Naval Beef?

I was just down at Seaport Merchants, a Newfoundland food shop, and snapped this photo of what is most certainly "cured navel beef."

Bolet's Burrito? New at Front E & Sherbourne

This place is good. Massive burritos for bargain prices. They tend not to be open late in the evening--it's more of a lunch place.

Brasilian Feijoada Completa

The owner of Segovia's is Chilean but his wife is from Brazil and has added some Brazilian items to the store.

Brasilian Feijoada Completa

They now serve it at Segovia's on Augusta Street in Kensington Market. It's only for take out but it's very good.

Poutine Plus (and Nathan's Hot Dogs) - Queen and Bathurst

Yeah, it's hard to tell but in small letters on the For Rent sign it refers to the apartment.
