ISO Dinner Rec near (but not in) New Haven, CT

I need some help finding a good spot for dinner tomorrow night. I live in New Haven, but I'm hoping to find a place outside of New Haven because my tastebuds need something new. Willing to drive ~20 minutes. All types of cuisines welcome. Trying to keep the bill under $45/person including wine/beer. We're dining with friends, so some place with a fun atmosphere would be a big plus!
Thanks!

Sandwiches at Bouchon Bakery in Beverly Hills?

I heard that there's a Bouchon Bakery in Beverly Hills for the month of December. Though, I can't seem to find out if they're selling sandwiches (like the ones sold at the Yountville location and are to die for). Has anyone been to the store in Beverly Hills and seen sandwiches on the menu? Or, are they just offering pastries and the like?
Thanks!

ISO Deep Fried Apple Pie (a la McDonald's circa 1980s)

McDonald's used to serve deep fried apple pies before they switched to the baked versions that we see in most locations today. But, I've heard rumblings about a few McDonald's locations and other companies that still carry them (i.e. A&W, Walmart, Popeye's (?)). Does anyone know if I can find one around LA? If there's a location relatively close to W. LA, then that'd be even better!
Thanks

Dinner Recommendations in Downtown Nashville

Thanks to everyone for their recommendations.
I ended up going to Jack's for some bbq. Overall, it was really good and I'm very happy I went.
I started out with a plate of ribs. They were awesome. Moist and meaty. When coupled with the Kansas City sauce and the 911 hot sauce, they were excellent. Definitely can't get ribs like that very easily in LA.
I was so satisfied with my ribs that I went back to get a brisket sandwich and a sausage sandwich. The brisket sandwich was really nice. Cooked to proper done-ness and the texture was good. The sausage was impressive because it had a really thin, soft casing. The buns were a perfect match. Soft and chewy.
I would highly recommend this spot to anyone coming from a place that doesn't readily have good bbq. While this place probably doesn't have the best (or most highly respected) bbq in the area...it sure did a heck of a job pleasing this guy.

Dinner Recommendations in Downtown Nashville

Thanks for all the recommendations!
Just so I have a couple more options in my back pocket....what restaurants would you recommend that are no higher than the $25-$30 per person price range? Just in case my SO doesn't want to do the fine dining thing tonight.

Dinner Recommendations in Downtown Nashville

I'm from LA and I'm visiting Nashville for one night with my fiancee, but we don't know where to have dinner! I need some recommendations!
We're staying in downtown near West End Ave and 10th St and we're open to any type of cuisine - though it would be nice to eat something that I couldn't easily get in LA. Within walking distance of my location would be ideal (or a short taxi ride). Price: less than $65/per person (includes a drink or two and tax/tip). But we're totally open to eating at a super-cheap hole in the wall type place if it's tasty!
Thanks!

Dinner Recommendations in Downtown Memphis

I'm from LA and I'm visiting Memphis for one night, but I don't know where to have dinner! I need some recommendations!
I'm staying in downtown near Union & 2nd St. I'm open to any type of cuisine - though it would be nice to eat something that I couldn't easily get in LA. Within walking distance of my location would be ideal (or a short taxi ride). Price: less than $65/per person (includes a drink or two and tax/tip).

Need Recommendation for Steak Knives (Bridal Registry)

I'm getting married and I'm in the process of registering for gifts at various retailers. What is a well-priced, good quality steak knife set that I can ask for?
Note my emphasis on value. I don't necessarily want to register for the most expensive knives available. I don't want to look like an a**hole by asking for a $400 set. I guess up to $120 for a set of 6 would be ok. I currently use Victorinox Fibrox chefs knives and love them. I'd like to emulate that kind of price/quality/value combination.
THANKS!

Stefan's on Montana - What's the Deal?

I heard that Stefan's on Montana is open for business. But it doesn't have a website and an online menu is nowhere to be found. Does anyone have any details? There's a rumour that it's BYOB. True?

Dinner recommendation near Westin in Pasadena

I'm looking for a restaurant near the Westin in Pasadena. We have tentative plans to eat at Ruth's Chris, which is nearby, but I need a backup - just in case we can't get seated.

Dinner for 2 people, tonight. Not too loud - so we can have conversation. Within walking distance of Westin would be a huge plus. Our schedule is rather unpredictable, so it would be great if it wouldn't be too difficult to be seated promptly at the restaurant. Not looking for a mindblowing experience...just something solid and tasty. No more than $100/person. All types of cuisine welcome.

Elegant Saturday ladies lunch in Beverly Hills - Any suggestions?

I second lunch at Spago.

Brunch at the Beverly Wilshire is also a great call.

Help! Need place for mom's birthday lunch tomorrow - Westside-ish, great food, quiet, not insanely $$

I'd recommend La Scala in Beverly Hills. It's a good lunch spot that's not too crowded. It's quiet and it's not insanely expensive. I wouldn't classify the food as mindblowing, but it's quite good.

Need restaurant recommendation - west hollywood/beverly hills

Maudies5 is correct about your location being between the Valley and Bel-Air/Brentwood.

I'd recommend Cafe Bizou. It's french, within your price-range, tasty, and it has a lively ambience.

La Quinta - Dinner Recommendations

I am headed to the La Quinta Resort for a weekend golf trip with my buddy. Are there any awesome steakhouses that are very close to the resort? If not, then are there any other restaurants near the resort that are awesome (any cuisine)?
We're, ideally, looking for a place that would be a short drive from the resort - so we can drink a fair bit of wine. No uber-expensive restaurants (i.e. more than $300 total). Atmosphere isn't atop our list of priorities. We're just looking for a tasty meal.

Melisse - Cirque du Soleil Prix Fixe Menu

Hi there,

I've heard that Melisse is offering a 3-course prix fixe menu to people who are seeing the Cirque du Soleil show at the Santa Monica Pier. But, I can't seem to find out what's on the menu. It's not published online and my numerous requests to the restaurant have gone unanswered.

Does anyone know what's on the menu? Has anyone had it? Would love to hear your thoughts regarding its quality and value.

ISO inexpensive restaurant near Culver Plaza Theater

I'm going to a movie tonight at the Culver Plaza theater. The movie starts at 8p. Hoping to grab a quick bite beforehand. Nothing too expensive. Less than $50 for two people. A place that's within walking distance to the theater would be great. If it's possible to avoid making a reservation, that would be good too. Where can we eat, sit, have a drink, and be done in an hour?
Thanks!

ISO Vietnamese in West LA

Does anyone know of any good Vietnamese restaurants in West LA?

After watching a recent episode of No Reservations, in which Bourdain visits Vietnam, I realized that I need to give vietnamese another chance. The food looked amazing.

Pinot Noir - Food Pairing Recommendations Needed

I need some help with figuring out what kind of food to pair with Pinot Noir. Does steak pair well?

I ask because a good friend of mine recently spent some time roaming the Willamette Valley and picked up a bunch of different bottles of Pinot Noir. He's coming to my house so we can taste. In trade, I have to cook him dinner. If I prepare steak (filet, ny, or porterhouse), will it pair well?

There's a butcher near my house that supplies great prime beef. That's one reason I'm trying to cook steaks. The other is that I'm most competent on the grill and I won't have to jump through very many hoops to prepare a good meal.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Note: I posted this in the general Chow forum but thought that the Winehounds might have some great insight regarding my dilemma. Thanks!

Santa Monica / Venice - Date Night Dinner Recs

How does the communal table at Gjelina work, exactly? Do you have to hover over people and take their table as soon as they leave (a la Father's Office)? Or, do you leave your name your name with the host and wait until he seats you?

I'm not the biggest fan of hovering. Too much strategizing involved to have a good time.

Santa Monica / Venice - Date Night Dinner Recs

I forgot to mention that I've eaten at Bar Pintxo. It's okay. I found it a bit overpriced for what it was. And I couldn't help comparing them to the tapas I've eaten while in Spain. It's hard to live up to that.

On another note, I noticed Joe's received a Michelin star. What's that place like?

Santa Monica / Venice - Date Night Dinner Recs

I need some Chowhound help with picking a restaurant for dinner with my girlfriend this Saturday night. She and I are looking for a place in Santa Monica or Venice with some tasty food, but also a fun atmosphere.

In an ideal world, we could walk to the restaurant or take a short cab ride (we live near 15th & Montana and don't mind walking a couple of miles). Looking to spend no more than $200 after tax and tip (and including a couple of drinks). We're open to all types of food, but we've eaten a lot of sushi lately and might rather avoid it. A lively atmosphere is definitely a plus. My girlfriend has been pretty busy lately and wants a fun night out. Lastly, we're hoping to try a place that we haven't yet been.

A friend recommended Gjelina, but they're entirely booked. It looked perfect.
Chinois on Main looks interesting - but I've never eaten there. Is it outdated?

In case you find it useful, here's a list of places that we've tried lately - and thus would like to avoid:
Anisette - Awesome.
Riva - Awesome too.
R+D Kitchen - Ok.
Musha - Tasty, but the food's perhaps a little too heavy for this occassion.
Jiraffe - Pretty good. Perhaps something a little more livelier?
Chaya - Haven't eaten there in years. Food was average. Atmosphere is good.
Rustic Canyon - Nice place. But I find the menu to be a tad boring.
Border Grill - Pretty good food. Nice to have an alternative to traditional mexican food.

Really looking forward to your recommendations!

Parents in town...

I second Kiriko.

After Fraiche and Mozza...might be a nice change to do sushi. Tasty...yet not so heavy.

Il Pastaio in Beverly Hills is pretty money too - if you want to go italian again. Prices are fair and food is solid.

Santa Monica Seafood

What does Santa Monica Seafood charge ($/lb) for, say, a farmed salmon filet?

I've never been. But I live 10 blocks away. Trying to decide whether it's even worth the walk.

Best clam chowder on ocean between MALIBU & SM

I second Malibu Seafood. Very basic, yes. But the food is good and it's right off PCH. BYOB, which is also a huge plus.

Need rec's for great Seafood in WLA or Bev Hills or WeHo

The fish I've had at Hatfield's has been top-notch. While it's not a "seafood restaurant", the menu leans towards fish mains. Ambiance is cozy. Prices are relatively reasonable.

The Hungry Cat could also be good and fun. Peel and eat shrimp, many different types of oysters, etc.

But if money is no object, then I second, third, and fourth Providence.

Need a good restaurant in Santa Monica for date night with my husband.

Does Anisette accept walk-ins?
I've tried getting a reservation there a couple of times and, of course, the only avails were 530p or 9p.
