Cooking for New Parents that are Vegetarians

I'm worried mom will not get enough protein without the meat even though I like the thought of being able to pack in some veggies in a lasagna

Cooking for New Parents that are Vegetarians

Didn't know there was a Vegetarian board. Thank u!

Cooking for New Parents that are Vegetarians

Hi fellow Chowhounders. My brother and sister in law just had a baby a couple months ago and are incredibly sleep deprived and stressed so I offered to come help them for a day. I'd like to bring them a home cooked dish like comfort food that would be easy to reheat like a cassarole or something however they are pescatarian and mom is trying to eat heathy to shed her baby weight. Any recommendations? I was thinking jambalaya with shrimp but I would need a sausage substution.

I need some summer white wine recs please

Thank you. Yes, I'm still in the 818. I'll have to check out K&L. What do you think of rose? Maybe I'd like a dry rose. Any recommendations?

Would you recommend a Moscato? Reislings are too sweet for me.

I need some summer white wine recs please

I've been drinking champagne lately because I'm so bored with my usual Chardonnays. I
have only been drinking Bogle Chard lately. I would like to open up to other varietals but I like a subtle, slightly sweet or not sweet is fine, non desert wine and sparkling is okay too. I've in the past liked whites when they've been referred to as buttery. I'm pretty sure I don't like my whites too oakey either. Sorry I'm a wine amateur. I'd like to purchase a couple under $20 or $15 each. Thank you

Help me better my Spicy Shrimp Pasta recipe

Making dinner for my new BF tonight. Basically a Cajun seasoned shrimp in a garlic white wine sauce with fire roasted tomatoes and red pepper flakes. I was thinking to dice up a little mushroom and add in a diced up hot link or andouille sausage. Any suggestions on a smokey spicy meat to add in? I'm open to ideas..fresh basil? Should I serve with Angel Hair or Fettucine noodles? How can I make this special?

Memory Lapse - Pasadena eatery on Colorado

yes, that's it! thanks. also, thinking about Sorriso. any thoughts?

Memory Lapse - Pasadena eatery on Colorado

I've always wanted to try this eatery on Colorado Blvd, I think it's Italian. Very large modern restaurant with long large glass windows and a large patio. It's on the same side and not too far down from "Thai Italian". Does anyone know of the place? It escapes me. It's always crowded and the food always looks and smells good when I walk by.

ISO Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Bumping this because I just made the most talked about choco chip cookie recipe on this thread "Thick and Chewy Cookies from Cooks Illustrated" and they were Ah-mazing! A few alterations were made though. I decreased the flour to 2 cups only as the first time I made these they were a little cakey. I used half dark chocolate and half milk chocolate chunks and 1 1/2 cups halved walnuts which seems like a lot but was perfect. I added a teaspoon of almond extract (sounds weird but gave a mysterious flavor appeal). I brushed the tops of the dough balls with melted butter just before sticking them in the oven which made the outsides extra crispy but the cookies were still chewy inside. These were chunky and good and absolutely perfect. I had to bake them the full 18 minutes since they were so thick. Try them out.

Next time I think I will bump up the salt a little bit and add one extra tablespoon of butter to see what happens. Also, I think I will try dark brown sugar as I used light brown today.

Please share your Downtown Recs to help me have a great weekend! :)

The boy and I aren't the hugest "foodies", just looking for a nice romantic dinner within, say a 20 minute driving range. 30 minutes tops with saturday nigbht traffic. We are a humble late twenties couple trying to re-ignite things for the weekend....been dating for 8 years now. :)
thanks!

Please share your Downtown Recs to help me have a great weekend! :)

Hello. hello, my fellow Chowhounders!
My darling boyfriend is taking me on a much needed weekend away for some R&R. We will be staying at our fav, Hotel Figueroa. My job is to find some restaurants for the weekend and I am enlisting your help! :)

Do you knowledgable foodies have any favorites? I would like to find a nice romantic place for dinner for around/under $80 each with a drink or two. We aren't big steak eaters but love seafood and ethnic foods. We usually go for Argentinean, Peruvian, Spanish, but also love good ol' Cali cuisines. I'm even thinking about wine tasting if someone knows of a place in that area that offers it on a Sat. night. Open to your suggestions. Feel free to even include breakfast/lunch recs if you wish.

Hotel Fig is located at:
939 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015

Thanks everyone!!

Downtown recs preferably in walking distance to Seven Grand Bar

Going to meet a couple friends this Friday at the Seven Grand Whisky Bar. My friends are not foodies but can appreciate good inexpensive food. How's the food @ Seven Grand? I heard their pizzas are pretty good. Any experiences with this place? Food? Cocktails? Atmosphere?

LA - BEST MEXICAN RESTAURNT FOR BIRTHDAY PARTY - 13 People

I wouldn't recommend Malo. It will be too pricey. Yes, you can order tacos there a la carte but you won't fill up on just that and plus you have to pay for the chips. I personally think the food is over-rated. It's way too trendy for my as well. And not in a good fun modern way (a la Pinkberry) it's like cold and goth like in there. Trying too hard.

Simple Yet Impressive Hors D'oeuvres?

What is Gravlax? Where did it originate from? Yes, share your recipes! :)

Mmmmm..my new favorite: Thai Chicken Pizza Squares.
On Lavash wrap spread a thin layer of chinese duck sauce with a teaspoon of sriracha mixed in. Add a thin layer of shredded chicken. Top with smoked mozzarella and diced red, orange, yellow bell peppers. Cook in oven until cheese melts. Top with shredded cabbage, chredded carrots, bean sprouts and cilantro. Cut into squares and serve with lime slithers.

Best Thanksgiving Plate?

I'm feeling nostalgic. It's been a long day. I could use a big plate of turkey (or roast chicken) and really good mashed potatoes and gravy with maybe some stuffing? A slice of pie and a martini to top it off. Then a bath, warm blankets, a bed and my dog. That is what dreams are made of.

What are your recs?

Side Salads for Bunko Night

Warm Orzo Greek Salad:

Cook 1 box Orzo pasta until al dente, drain & place in medium bowl. Add to 3 tablespoons good olive oil and the juice of 1 lemon. Add salt and pepper and marinate overnight. The next day add crumbeld feta cheese, fresh dill or fresh basil (maybe even some parsley) and pre-cooked tail-off cleaned shrimp (you can buy this at your local store in the fish case ready to go). Or for a vegetarian version try adding diced tomatos and diced cucumbers. Serve at room temperature.

Asian Broccoli Salad - My old co-worker used to make this with a slightly sweet and tangy sesame dressing and she use uncooked ramen and almonds for crunch. I loved it! Don't have a recipe but I'm sure you can find one online.

Best sandwich I ever invented

I make a BLT but replace the lettuce with spicy radish sprouts and add some feta cheese. So I guess it would be a BRSTFC Sandwich! Mmm so good grilled!
