CSA advice?
hi!
featherstonefarm.com
expensive, but great! 4th year for us. st paul dropsite avail.
Purple Sandpiper in Bloomington
We just at there last night. It was really nice, and the service were great! Super friendly, but not in an obnoxious way at all. Memorably just plain really nice. I am not sure if "Jason" was chef'ing (was he also a worker at Sinful Wines & Spirits), but everything (Beer Beef & Sea Bass by us) was really good.
I am sort of bummed their breakfast menu has been so reduced, but am still looking forward to going back.
I also really like how much they promote local foods..subtle, but abundant - go check it out :)
Whole Foods Supposedly Coming To Edina
agree! the coops here are AMAZING.. and, i'd guess better quality as it may be more local ?!
i actually like byerlys.. but i guess i like the richfield lunds better. they're local, and that's nice. whole foods is fun.. and however happy i am that featherstone farms (our csa) is a big provider to whole foods through the whole midwest USA, it still makes me sad when i see their squash there..
i'll probably go to that whole foods because it is convenient and they have a nice organic store brand for staple itesm, but so does lunds/byerlys. i think whole foods 365 brand is less expensive.. this is tough!
Mac's Industrial - looking for recommendations :)
Hi-
The menu at Mac's Industrial is intense.. what's the best main dish.. or at least, what's the best SIDE?
(:
No more Liberty Frozen Custard :(

New Years Resolution: Explore Vietnamese Restaurants in MSP
I live blocks from Vina in Richfield, and beg you to next time drive farther and try Quang, or Pho Tau Bay, or Pho79.. please?! For two of you the meal would be $15.. and you'd be much more satisfied. I really want to love my neighbor, but I cannot.

On's Thai Kitchen
awesome! i am so getting that next time. we went and were the only ones there for sun @ lunch (day after xmas, but still!). we all had soup. the tom yum, suki yaki, and my parents had pho (i tried not to be mad they didn't order thai dishes). i will tell you, the thai stuff was awesome! .. plus on came out & gave us some freshly fried shrimp puff chips and talked to us for a while.. great folks, great restaurant.. now if it would only be closer to our house.. :)
Authentic Shwarma!
thanks for the tip! i love having reasons to take a date night @ the heights :)! sounds delicious
Midtown Global Market - Must Try Items
As a rule, I like cake, but the custard place connected to Finnspang is super endearing. The only thing I have had from Salty Tart was a macroon, once. They were good, but notice only once. For the custard lady, been there a bunch. She uses ingredients from the market - like the cookies from Finnspang and fruit of the season from Produce Exchange. That's just cool. Plus now that it's getting cold hear you can go warm up inside MGMkt before/after the cool treat. Love it.

restaurant week
al vento has dinner for $15. went there already and it was solid. not the most unique thing i've had in town, but TOTALLY worth more than $15 !! ..it was packed, though - not sure how they're doing for reserved-ness ;)
Bakery for birthday cake St Paul
the fruit ones have parsley, the green tea one is surely green tea. best.cake.ever !! yum. the mango one is good, too. wow i want to drive there right now.
Bakery for birthday cake St Paul
Bravo Bravo Bravo (can I vote 3x)? .. seriously!
PS another fun option is an ice cream cake from Grand Ole Creamery but I have had both & Bravo is better.
Caramel Rolls
I just saw a post praising Bars Bakery - what are the other favorites? I have heard repeatedly that it's Isle & Bun .. but let's hear some more suggestions :)
Tasting Menus??
I whole-heartedly second LBV Lounge Tasting 4 course.. went for the first time a couple weeks ago and wonder why it took us so long to try.
Raku?
I went here for restaurant week & found ordering off the menu was less expensive than the restaurant week special (quite a refreshing surprise for a Japanese restaurant). The rolls were super tasty and came with good hunks of fish, but the drinks were overpriced and the service was S L O W (I actually had the remind the server about my drink after we got all our food - guess it turned into an apertif :/) .. so if you're in a patient mood go order some tasty rolls or their platters (that come with soup or salad), but skip the drinks!
DINNER and a Movie
ooh this is fun. similar to below when we go 'out' for a special dinner & movie we do the heights + something - holy land, etc -- too much good stuff up there to list 'em all.
for a more simple night out at the riverview stop by glaciers cafe before AND after for ice cream :-)
last one - IMAX at the zoo after satay2go in apple valley.. we haven' t done that for ages!
Serentori - this local gem is closing 03/31/10
NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo UGH .. thank you for letting us know. this was a really great place :( please keep us posted if you find they have moved. my whole family will follow.
CSAs with Minneapolis Drop sites?
okay, well just remember the pix are probably of the bigger box. i can tell you the bigger one had 2 of many things, and im not sure the smaller one will - you may be having to pick & choose your veggies :) i thought the smaller one was for like 1-2 people, personally? oh well.. good luck & enjoy! if you email them any questions i bet they will write back -- they're nice people and seem to have a big online presence..
Any senior citizen-friendly but good restaurants in St. Paul?
Highland Cafe. My husband & I walked in there one Saturday night & were the only two under 70, but the food was FANTASTIC. I think it replaced the old Perkins for those in the neighborhood, but everything is made from scratch & super tasty.
CSAs with Minneapolis Drop sites?
We split the big one between our family (husband+me) & a friend. Personally I think going at that sucker alone would require a second refrigerator. If you're really curious I think they archive previous years' selections of "grande" shares on their website. It's pretty accurate, with the exception that last year we had TONS of corn (which is awesome) while the year before we had little to none. June is super salad month, but stick it out.. :-)
If you are considering a chica, I would highly promote finding someone to split instead. It's not that tough, plus it's cheaper.

featherstone is hands down fantastic. we have had their csa for 2 years and have signed up for a 3rd. i didn't bring it up before because it's probably one of the more expensive ones in town. nothing bad to say about them except maybe if you don't like whole foods (they sell them a lot of stuff).. but that's only because they're good at what they do. visited their farm last summer and it's real people doing really good work. (ps we split our shares, too.. and sometimes it involves splitting a head of greens or waiting til the next week for your turn, but they actually do a really good job of giving you two of things making it fairly easy to split)
Good Burnsville Restaurant for Business Lunch
unfortunately, the only thing that is good at cici's pizza is their pasta (the red sauce is good, but 99% of the pizzas have alfredo type sauce) and their brownies. i wanted to like the apple pizza, but i couldn't. the pizza is just plain 'meh. i really wanted to like it. bville recommendations. well, our business lunches typically involve bucas. while not incredibly unique, it's a good offering to someone from out of town. there's also spice thai over towards savage.
Minneapolis / St. Paul: Reception Venue
We had our reception before Forepaugh's went under new ownership, but it was super reasonable ($15/pp for 3 course meal- drinks extra but not outrageous).. plus it's a pretty old house w.free parking in a not as busy part of St Paul. Classy all around. This was a few years ago, but we did it for a Sat/lunch, when they are not open as a restaurant, so we had the whole house to ourselves (w.servers of course).

Where to eat in Bloomington, MN
Okay, so business travelers may not have a unique place to take their clients, but SERIOUSLY.. bloomington has the best strip mall known to man, so close to the mall i can't believe you'd recommend places there:)
kabob's (fantastic)
la mixteca (phenomenal - everything is.. saying it's like chipotle isn't even nice)
india cafe (heard okay things, but it's cheap and nearby!)
plus some pizza and chinese in that same lil strip..
can sit more quietly & comfortably at da afghan (american blvd west of lyndale)
so.. if you're up for an adventure and a quick bite on your own or with a small group, you'll totally be pleased. if you're looking for fine dining near here, hotels & malls it is :)
MSP vietnamese?
Saigon on University as well. Look in the appetizer section, it's the only one over $5.. feeds 2 as a meal, 4-6 as an app. The pork balls that go inside are fantastic.
Chinese Take Out-South Mpls
No reason to bump this back to the list rather than to say we went to SerenTori last night (for the second time), and were super impressed. Everyone was really nice and the food was REALLY good. Lao Gang Som Pla was fantastic.. and the Pad Thai my dad ordered was also excellent (didn't have that burnt off a super hot wok noodle thing going on that I kinda like, but the taste/color/texture were all really nice).
Warning - all entrees get free super bland chicken noodle soup as an appetizer (add the sriracha and *poof*, all better)- think about that before you order soup, but don't let it stop you -- every soup we have had from there has been FANTASTIC.
Restaurant Week ... [MSP]
wasn't that butterscotch pudding bizzarely awesome? it still confuses me.. totally wasn't pudding, but it sure was tasty! i was sorta of disappointed when i saw the real menu bc they didnt have what was listed on the preview menu online, but that pudding was really something.
Restaurant Week ... [MSP]
Tried Oceanaire last night. Very filling $30 (though we also split a bottle of wine 4 ways). Upon leaving, our waiter informed us they're having a similar 3 course meal for $32.95 at least through this month (he could have said til end of April).
