What discontinued products do you miss?

And speaking of Trader Joe's..... I'm trying to learn how to live without their recently discontinued plain nonfat frozen yogurt. It was amazing. I sure hope they bring it back.

Any Clever Offbeat Advice for My Kitchen Redesign?

What I like about mine is that I can open it with my foot, really nice if my hands are greasy/sticky/goopy from cooking.

What discontinued products do you miss?

Yes, I have great memories of space food sticks, especially the peanut butter flavor!

What discontinued products do you miss?

I really miss Callard and Bowser's black licorice toffee. But I found a recipe for it on allrecipes.com. I made it *without* the black food coloring, and if I closed my eyes, I thought it was the real thing.

Best packaged non-bakery store bought cookies

Vrootman "almond krunch" are amazingly delicious.

TJ's sells a very buttery, not terribly sweet, almond cookie that is shaped like a windmill and comes in one of those square see-through plastic boxes. Really good.

Favorite Chocolate Bar

Scharffen Berger Mocha: 62% cacao with finely ground Sumatran coffee. Yum!

On a lower budget day I'm very happy with a Snickers.

does anyone still buy instant coffee?? canned vegetables?? condensed soup??

I used to eat Dannon coffee yogurt almost daily, until I realized how loaded with sugar it is. Now I take 3/4 C of Trader Joe's nonfat Greek yogurt, and stir in 1 t instant coffee, 1/4 t cinnamon, 1 t unsweetened cocoa powder and stevia to taste. It's great!

No longer a Zingerman's Deli virgin am I!

Agreed, parking is miserable, service is cheerful and competent, and the food is fabulous and well worth the occasional splurge. I'm crazy about their chocolate cherry bread. The dough part is chocolate-flavored but not very sweet, and it's loaded with juicy dried cherries and chunks of fabulous, silky dark chocolate. I've had a few people tell me, "I don't 'get' that bread" -- because it's somewhat like a dessert, but not exactly, and they don't know how to categorize it. It's amazing!

Best Cornedbeef/Rueben in Detroit Metro-

I'm a great fan of Zingerman's Georgia Reuben, made with smoked turkey and cole slaw. I live in Lake Orion. Once a year I travel to Battle Creek, and always swing by Zingerman's for a Georgia Reuben, which I eat half of for lunch, and save the other half for dinner. It's fabulous!

Anti Microwave

One of the best cooks that I know doesn't have one and doesn't miss it. Those of us who have them are addicted to quick reheating, but he's taught me how simply and quickly things can be heated up without microwaving. A little water added to a covered pot and the food to be reheated does the trick very quickly over a low flame. He heats up bread by placing it on top of his woodburning stove and inverting a bowl over it. I would gladly live without one, but my husband likes to reheat food in it when I abandon him for my weekly dose of contra dancing.

Best enameled cast iron cookware?

I've used an old Guardian roaster with the metal lid with great success in making that wonderful no-knead bread. They are no longer made, but available on ebay.

Make room for a foot-pedal operated Simple Human trash can. It works so well and is so attractive that it makes me happy every time I use it.

Where do you keep the Kitchen Aid mixer?

OW ow ow ow ow! The thought of a KitchenAid mixer landing on one's toe is horrible!
