Dinner at Casita Al is very simple tonight. Simply seasoned and grilled filet mignon, quartered and roasted baby reds with parmesan and steamed green beans. Cold beer.
Keeping it simple as we're heading for higher ground for the long weekend. Mostly because the raucous and kid filled neighborhood bbq will be happening right off my patio, and pap said it best with "I can't stand that f---ing shit".

PIZZA: Experts rank the top 101 pies to find the 'perfect slice'

Happy to see my adopted hometown of Phoenix in the bronze medal spot with Bianco and their wonderful marinara! Phoenix is actually a great pizza town.
But the best pizza I ever had, the one that haunts my dreams, is #70, the Zoli at Il Can Rosso. Fun place, very nice management, you can't go wrong by visiting Il Cane Rosso.

Tried and true tips and recipes for German style potato salad to make day ahead?

Long story short, I am not able to attend my neighborhood weekend bbq because I'm going out of town. But the neighborhood activity police chief still has me locked in for a savory salad. I've always loved German style potato salad, so I'd like to try to make some that will be just as good after 24 hours so bbq attendees can enjoy.
Any specific recipes or tips on what potatoes will hold up best, etc? Many thanks!

Hmmm, unable to post a pic today :/
Pork yakisoba last night turned out great! Since I made and pulled a whole loin yesterday, the leftover pork tonight will be turned into humble street style tacos with slaw, red salsa, cilantro and lime :)

Mellow Mushroom. Love, love, love and frequent on the regular. And Five Guys. Little bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions. Yum.

Thank you! For the pork for yakisoba, I did the easiest way of cooking a loin. Rub it with salt, pepper and chili flakes. Wrap loosely in doubled foil and 350 for an hour. Not bad.

Also wishing you the best and strongly agree with Gio. It took several months after a gallbladder removal for me to return to tastyland, but the patience pays off and you should be fully restored.

My cooking efforts have been hampered by a few "omg, can you watch my kid/dog?" requests and a water main issue. But last night, I finally spent some time in the kitchen!
Thin sliced ham quickly pan fried in some steakhouse seasonings and wooshy sauce. On a pretzel roll with gouda, edam, onions and mayo. Kind pulled that outta nowhere, but I was quite pleased (and the ranch is pap's).
Tonight will be a traditional style yakisoba with pork and veggies will be the usual suspects.

Recent cooking fails?

This one is so basic. Fail number one: after a busy day a few weeks ago, I bought a frozen pizza. Fail two, I came home, popped a top, then unwrapped and hucked the thing on the rack totally upside down. By the time I'd changed my clothes into "home sweats" it was a train wreck. But, at least the local pizza chain had a pie here by the time I'd cleaned the oven!

Traffic in larger Asian cities scares the living daylights out of me. I also do the find a group and cross with them thing. Hue and Hoi An in Central Vietnam are on the coast and apparently have fantastic food.

A quick chili sauce I made up to mix with mayo for the burger. Dried, toasted and rehydrated serranos with white vinegar, lime zest, honey, salt and a few canned chipotles in adobo.

Tonight I'll be joining dish of the month and making a simple burger on the grill. I'll mix the meat with a bit of chopped jalapeno and top with colby jack and slaw with black beans, corn and a little chili sauce.
Nothing special, but it is nice that the temps are letting up enough to allow grilling :)
