Lers Ros worth a trip for a neyorker who lives next to SriPraPhai?
Thank you goldangl95. I will drive from SF to LA, do you recommend a good thai over there? I will really appreciate your advice.
Lers Ros worth a trip for a neyorker who lives next to SriPraPhai?
Hi I have a very specific question. i will be visiting SF for 10 days and I live next to SriPraPhai in Woodside, Queens. However I do like Thai food. Is Lers Ros Thai worth a visit? (question intended for people who know SriPraPhai) Thanks a lot! LRS
La Mar Cebicheria Peruana -- Reviews?
I went to La mar in the city a few days ago and did not like it one bit, plus it was too expensive for what they give you. Will keep going to my usual places in Queens.
Please review SFO dining list for NYC Foodie (Researched)!!
Hi Windy. Will you mind giving me (a NYC hound) five places you really like and believe I'd enjoy in SF? I have been to Zuni, Delfina, Aziza, Slanted Door, La sanateca for pupusas, chez panisse in Berk, and El tanguito on previous trips. I am asking for 5 arbitrary places you'd pick (from restaurants to trucks or all restaurant or trucks) that will be nice for a newyorker. Again just the 5 places you'd recommend to a person who tries to arrange his trips around food. For example, is Lers Ros Thai worth visiting if I live next to SriPraphai in Queens? I'm not asking if it is BETTER than it, I only want something good and a little different from what I usually eat in NYC. It does not have to be TOTALLY different from what I have in the city, just good food that will please someone who eats out a lot in the east coast and toronto/montreal. Thanks!
Relatively new place near the East Village
Hi, Ive been living on Avenue C for 11 years now but I spent last year out of the country and just came back. Ive seen new places around but I dont know wich ones shold I try. Are there new (1-2 years) places around? Or old places thar have improved, or old places that I should avoid? Basically Id like an update of the food around my neighborhood. Thanks!!
La Mar Cebicheria Peruana -- Reviews?
La Mar branch in Mexico City is pretty good, so
Im looking forward to this Acurio's branch.
Your favorite gardens (summer 2011)
for some reason I imagine it with long lines, packed, etc. is there any bar in the village with a garden? i know some places in the east village/east side but am wondering if there are similar places in greenwich/soho.
Your favorite gardens (summer 2011)
Wondering if there is anything new since last year. Im not looking for rooftops, just relaxed gardens/patios with a decent beer selection.
Beer places in Manhattan
Hop Devil Grill is very conveniently located for me for I wouldn't say their staff is knowledgeable. I go quite often and they never know what am I referring to when I ask a beer question.

Beer places in Manhattan
There are no beer bar posts since 2008 and that post is very incomplete so I was wondering what are the places as of 2011 to drink a good beer selection. The places I usually visit for a nice beer are:
Blind Tiger
Against the Grain (very small selection but not bad)
DBGB (More expensive but the small selection is excellent)
Drop Off (ok but they always have the same beers, the do not rotate the selection)
East Village Tavern (small selection, but Ok)
I have not been to Pony because the crowd scared me when I was about to enter and I do not like the DBA crowd either.
I DO NOT need a Best of list, only a list of the places where you like the beer selection and if possible some detail as of what do they carry.

Does this sound OK? (Toronto weekend)
ok. Just made a reservation for Origin, although very early because they're all booked.
A question for skyline or any other hound regarding Omei: If one of the persons I'm planning to go with is allergic to lobster, will it still be a great experience for her to ho to Omei?
Does this sound OK? (Toronto weekend)
Thanks to all! Origin sound like a great idea...and everything else. Yes, if I go to Chiado I will have to eliminate one of the place I already have there. I will have a car on Saturday and I thought of driving to Omei but I really would like to know if it'll be a superior experience than going to Lai Wah Heen. Peppermint pate: you would take out a place and slip Torito in? If so, which place? And again, that chinatown walk wold mean to go to to LWH instead of Omai?

oh, ok, thanks. Do you happen to know if -in terms of the dosas- Madras DH is similar to NYC's Saravanaas?
Does this sound OK? (Toronto weekend)
Hi. I’m from NYC and will be visiting Toronto from Thursday –Sunday. This is list I have so far. I will also be having beer in the 4 places you have suggested. Can you tell me if this accounts for a good food experience in Toronto? Thanks!
Thursday
Lunch (threeish): St. Lawrence Mkt
Dinner: black hoof
Friday
Lunch: Lee
Dinner: Buk Chang Dong Soon To Fu (or Lahore Tikka House or Madras Dosa Hut?)
Saturday
Lunch: Mezes or burger and a beer at Allen’s
Dinner: O’Mei (better than going to Lai Wah Heen, right?)
Sunday:
Brunch: ? (Lady Marmalade, Littlefish, Mitzi’s on College, Lola's Commissary, Aunties and Uncles, Le Petit Dejeuner, Bonjour Brioche)
Im not sure about either going to Chiado or just to a less expensive place. I do like Aldea back home, but I only go often because of ther arroz de pato, the other dishes I have tried there are good bit but not great.
Where and What to drink in Toronto
yay, thanks a lot! Im writing it down. I'll report back.
Madelin'es for a Newyorker?
I will be visiitng Toronto soon and was wondering: does this place still exist? Is it worth going?
Where and What to drink in Toronto
Ok, 'll ask specific questions, hope it helps.
There are several beer that I would like to try (friends who have been there reccomended them). At leats 3 of them are Mike Duggan #9, Granite Hopping Mad, John (imperial stout). Are they widely available?
What I do get in NYC are several Unibroue beers, I don’t know if there is something special from Unibroue that doesn’t travel here and that I shouldn’t miss. Im not sure either if all the Unibroue selction is widely available in Toronto, I have not been in Toronto, ever.
Antoher question: What’s the difference (in terms of beer quality, clean lines, variety of beers, ambiance) between the places you recommend above (C'est What, Beerbistro...) and a place like Smokeless Joe's? I ask because this SJ’s seems to be near where I’ll be. Is it worth it? I do not need a fancy bar or good food, even a dive will do as long as the beer selection is excellent.
One last question. Is there any good Rye Beer in Toronto?
I will appreciate your responses! LRS
Where and What to drink in Toronto
Hi kwjd. I will only be drinking at bars. I like different styles depending on the hankering. I tend to like rye beers, some dark lagers, certain ipas...right now i have on my fridge two dogfishhead 60 min, 1 bell's Two hearted ale, 2 Gonzos -flying dog-, and a big hop rod rye (bear republic)...just to give u and idea. i do like certain beers and they are not necessarily the same style of beer, i would like to know what do u like in Toronto - along those lines or not.
thanks erin-grogan. I am a beer advocate reader, I just wanted hounders opinions regarding this.
What does Toronto do best?
Im from NYC and will be visiting Toronto next week. I will be staying at Dufferin and st. Clair. Any recs? Im already going to Black Hoof my first night. Im not looking for highendish places (might go to the portuguese restaurant one night), i just one the best that I can get out of Toronto. Is there a particular chinese that you recommend aside form the one that appears on this board? If so, any particular dishes that are good compared to chinatown or flushing? Anyway, any recommendation will be welcomed. If there is a specially good latinamerican, caribbean or easter european, a plus.

Huntington.....
Thanks for the recs. I haven't tried any, but will try them all this week for sure. I'm literally new around here. I spend half of the week here and half of it in the city and am trying to convince my friends to visit me so I'm very dedicated to finding good places to eat (and drink) here since that's what we do in the city 80 % of the time. Thanks again.
Where and What to drink in Toronto
I'm from NYC and will be travelling to Toronto next week. I am looking for a beer with a nice beer selection and am also interested in what to drink over over day that's hard to find in NYC. Any help will be welcomed.
Huntington.....
Scott R: thanks for your reply. no, I'm not limiting to Huntington, I was reading this thread and replied instead of creating a new one. I'm looking for anything near (30-40 min drive) Stony Brook. And no, I'm not limiting to Latin American or Caribbean food either. I'm Latin American and started my reply with that interest in mind but then expanded while writing, as you saw. I got hungry and was thinking 'out loud'. Any suggestion will be welcomed.
Valdepeñas
Thanks. I ended up buying a Valdepenas in Syosset. It was just ok. There is no need to buy Valdepenhas in the states. I bought a very nice Lopez de Heredia that same day, what a huge difference.
Huntington.....
Aside from Oaxaca, are there other good Latin food places? I just to Stony Brook from the city and am looking for nice places to eat nearby. I am particularly interested in peruvian, puerto rican, brazilian, salvadorean, ecuatorian, and venezuelan places, but also turkish, vietnamese, a good chinese, ethiopean, indian, even a good slice or a good burger...as long as is good and relax. I'll appreciate your help.
Valdepeñas
thank you PP. yes ima regular customer at Tinto fino, they have a nice selection but do not carry Valdepenhas. I will give them a call though, maybe the can give a hint..
Valdepeñas
oh that;s too bad. I always enjoy them in Spain but I haven't found anything nice in NYC...
Valdepeñas
Does anyone know what is the best Valdepeñas I can find in the (US) market?
Your favorite gardens (summer 2010)
Backforty's patio is not bad either. I also enjoyed Bia Garden last weekend.
