Oh geez, I don't know. It's gotta be the epically delicious 4 course Chinese meal I had in Korea this past summer. Sounds odd, but here's how it went. My mom's uncle, whose title is officially Gomobu Halabuhji (great uncle sounds hilarious in Korean, I know) basically loves when my mom and I visit. He and his wife consider my mom their favorite of the nieces and loves me and my brother. It was only me this trip, but he decided to take us to this little Chinese place in Daegu, and the food was amazing! We started out with a kind of batter fried chicken covered in a spicy sweet sauce, similar to the Ameri-Chinese dish General Tso's chicken, but the flavors are just so much more delicate and light and utterly delicious. No MSG or excessive soy sauce here. Then he brought out a dish that is one of my favorites, the Korean name for which is Tang Soo Yook. This is a batter fried beef dish covered in a very sweet sauce that has large bits of fresh peach and pineapple and some green pepper and red pepper flakes in it. I am totally not doing this dish justice. It was amazing. Next came out a bunch of steamed bread rolls and a thinkly sliced beef and pepper stir fry. This was heaven. It tasted so good, and I really don't even like peppers at all. The final course was my favorite, jajjangmyun, which is thick egg noodles with a black bean sauce that has onions, beef, zucchini, carrot, and potato in it. I cannot describe this dish to someone who hasn't tried it. It is such comfort food for me. Anyways, this was the perfect meal. It was flavorful without being overly salty or overseasoned. It had a variety of tastes and textures. The different choices were just amazing. I will never forget that meal.
