Norfolk Dinner Opinions?
just a quick report back - we went to razzo and it was perfect! the food was delicious, the atmosphere was great and everybody (host, waitresses) were so friendly. we started with the asparagus, goat cheese and prosciutto app, which was awesome. i got one of the tuna mains and the two others in my group both got the pasta with ricotta and sausage - everything was delicious. hugh portions too, which made for good leftovers. thanks for the advice!
Norfolk Dinner Opinions?
Hi all! I usually post/lurk on the Boston board, but will be in Norfolk tomorrow night and was hoping for some opinions on dinner. I'm looking for someplace semi-near the Norfolk airport, American, seafood or Italian for a nice but not super fancy dinner. Price around $20-$30/entree. From searching this board, I've found the following:
- Todd Jurich
- Vintage Kitchen
- La Bella in Ghent
- Conklin's Irish Rover
- Razzo
Any opinions/comments on the restaurants listed above or any others would be great. Thanks in advance!

Harvard Square dinner recs
i completely agree with dea, especially about tory row. i've had multiple items on the menu (burger, salads, tuna, cheese plate) and have really enjoyed them. i think tory row is a great quick, low key option in the square.
Brighton/Brookline suggestions
i used to live in washington square and really loved washington square tavern - really good food, friendly people and relaxed atmosphere - although may not "relaxed" when super crowded, but at least cozy!
Recs near Harvard square for Dinner. $$ Inexpensive to Moderate.
i second the idea of heading to central square - recently ate at green street and had a fabulous meal. very cozy, friendly staff, great food and not super expensive. rendezvous is also delicious, although probably a bit more pricey.
barlow's?
just wanted to see if there are any other reports on barlows in southie - i saw one in the winter open/closing thread but considering heading there on saturday with some friends so wanted to see if any other impressions. thanks!
Rendezvous - all starters meal?
didn't have an all starters meal but did have a great meal at rendezvous last night! we shared the scallops with butternut squash puree and the bluecakes for apps - both delicious, with the bluecakes really being amazing. i got the swordfish and dc got the steak - both really good and cooked perfectly. we also shared a bottle of beaujolais that was delicious as well - such a great atmosphere and really friendly service - i love this place!

Cold Soup...what's your fav?
thanks so much!! definitely going to make it this weekend!
Cold Soup...what's your fav?
do you have a recipe for this that you'd be willing to share? i love zucchini!
Peanut Butter -- how do you eat it (and on what kinds of different foods)?
best way, on a spoon. close second, with fage 0% and a little splenda. also good with celery and with cottage cheese...i love pb!
Temple Bar, Cambridge - Report (June 2009)
i moved to cambridge about a year ago and live just a few blocks from temple bar and really love it, both for a meal and just for a drink. i've had multiple dishes on the menu, including the steak, salmon, burger, mussels, various brunch items, etc., and really have never had a bad meal. it's a relaxed atmosphere, usually without a long wait and friendly staff. they also have outdoor tables, which is a plus as well.
Restaurants everyone seems to HATE but you love
some have already been mentioned (bertucci's, cheesecake) but also the fireplace in washington square has been panned on the board and i really like - i used to live in that area and had a couple very solid meals there, plus in the summer they have outdoor seating, which is always a plus!
Match Burgers and Martinis
hi thanks for all the responses - although now i'm kind of afraid! unfortunately, while i really love eastern standard, we are going to match tomorrow. my group does fit the mid-20 crowd and as law students, are really loving the sound of $5 entrees... sounds like i'll be getting a burger and beer! i'll report back!
Match Burgers and Martinis
hi! a few of us are thinking of heading to match on thursday (entrees $5 for ladies) so wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone had any comments on this place. i'm assuming it's nothing incredible but i'm hoping it's at least solid...any comments would be great!
The Beehive - not impressed and check your bill!
Just to offer another perspective - I went in with three friends a few saturdays ago for a drink before then heading to another place (the new stephi's on tremont) for dinner and we had fabulous bar service at beehive. Very crowded (8pm on a Saturday) but one of the bartenders offered us drink menus right away and then returned in another minute or so to take our drink order and then immediately returned with our drinks - which were fabulous. I've never had dinner there but would definitely return for drinks at the bar!
What mustn't you run out of?
fun topic! for me its:
cottage cheese
wine
espresso
olive oil
diet coke
crystal light lemonade
What do you eat too much of?
cheese! a meal isn't complete for me without some type of cheese! i buy low-fat/fat-free cheeses to make my addiction somewhat less worse for me...
Piattini on newbury- Any Recs?
yup, that's what i've done as well. their sandwiches are also really good. i really like piattini when on newbury - one of the best (and most affordable) places in the area!
Help me like broccoli
hi emme - i would love to get the details of the souffle you mentioned thanks!
Ocenaire RW meal
just wanted to follow up on my restaurant week dinner at oceanaire on friday. i went with four other people and we all absolutely loved it! it was our first time there and we were all very impressed with the space, the service and the room. we were running about 15 minutes late and called to tell them so - they gave us no problem, were very accommodating and sat us right away when we showed up. the room is absolutely beautiful.
we had a couple bottles of the pinot noir that came with the rw menu and all enjoyed that. i had the caesar salad as a starter and the four others had the clam chowder - the salad was fine, the chowder was probably the better choice. two of us had the crab cakes, two had the stuffed flounder and one had the swordfish with the compound butter sauce. everyone loved their food! like dea said, the crab cakes were huge and basically all crab, which was great. we also got sides, sharing the steamed spinach, asparagus and fries - all again were very good - and also very sizeable portions. fries are very thin and crispy.
although we were all stuffed, we all made room for dessert and everybody actually ordered the ny cheesecake with berry sauce. cheesecake was very good and was a smaller portion than normal, which was a good thing at that point. i don't remember the name of our waiter, but he was very attentive without being overly so and helpfully answered all our questions about the menu.
all in all, a great meal and a restaurant i will definitely return!
Ocenaire RW meal
glad to hear such a good report! i'm going on friday and really looking forward to it!
midnight snack
fage 0% with a little bit of splenda and natural crunchy peanutbutter...yum!
T-accessible good eats?
right near kenmore is eastern standard which is great food, great cocktails and a lot of fun. audubon right near the st. mary's t stop on the c line is also great - good food, low key vibe, not very expensive. further out the c line, washington square tavern is also good pubby food and a fun vibe.
What was your favourite childhood concoction, which you now think is disgusting?
my brother and i used to sneak oreo cookies that we'd use to scoop up vanilla frosting and then cover in chocolate sauce - seems like so much sugar now but i remember it being sooo delicious!
Quick question re: storing Paula Dean gooey chocolate cookies
thanks for the response zook - the "good but not great" review seems to be somewhat common - i know there are other cookie threads but do you have any awesome cookie (preferably chocolate or somewhat similar to what these are suppose to be) recipes that you could share? thanks!
